How to put text outside an xyplot?
Dear R-users, I have a plot created with the code below. I tried to put some text to the right of the color key. I worked with grid.text and also viewport(), but couldn't achieve this. I know this should be simple, but I just couldn't figure out how to do it. How does this work? Cheers, Marius library(lattice) library(grid) myvec=1:10 data=data.frame(x=myvec,y=myvec)

Alignment and Labeling of a color key in a xyplot?
Happy New Year to all R users! I have two short questions concerning a xyplot with a color key: 1) How do I properly place (align) the color key beside the xyplot? As you can see from the code listed below, the placement of the color key is not correct. I would like the upper and lower end point of the color key to be perfectly aligned with the upper and lower line of the xyplot. Adjusting

Simple plot loop
Trying to plot multiple lines from a simple matrix with headers (eight observations per column). I will be doing a number of these, with varying numbers of columns, and do not want to enter the header names for each one (I got frustrated and just wrote them out, which did work). Data reads fine, first plot is fine, but when i use the code at the bottom for a for i loop it tells me that x and y

matrix subscripts in replacement
I'm reluctant to draw the S-PLUS and R comparison (these are different programs after all), but could someone tell me why the following matrix substitution works in S-PLUS, but not R. I'm curious because matrix substitution is a really slick way to "cleaning up" columns of data in data frames. For example, in the following I change values of 1 to values of 10, but only for

Removal of columns from matrix where all values of the column are identical.
Hi all, I'd like to write a piece of code which will remove columns from a matrix, if the column contains only one value, say every value in the column is a "3": Matrix <- matrix(NA, nrow=5, ncol=4) Matrix[,1] <- c(1,2,3,4,5) Matrix[,2] <- c(3,3,3,3,3) Matrix[,3] <- c(5,4,3,2,1) Matrix[,4] <- c(5,1,4,3,2) [,1] [,2] [,3] [,4] [1,] 1 3 5 5 [2,] 2

lattice garphs: combining multiple scatterplots and adding legend
Dear List members, its me again, fighting with lattice graphics. I am trying to plot a world map, add some points on different locations with different colors and add a legend, but did not succeed yet with the legend. Here is my code: library(fields) # Data for demonstration data_x = c(0,50,60) data_y = c(0,0,0) cols???= c(1,2,3) data(world.dat) #print map all=xyplot(world.dat$y? ~

lattice : using both strip and strip.left
Dear all, I'm routinely using lattice and ggplot2, I wish to create a lattice theme that looks not too dissimilar to ggplot's defaults so I can include both graphs in a document with a consistent look. To illustrate my questions, consider the following example: > library(ggplot2) > library(lattice) > > # example data > x <- seq(0, 10, len = 100) > y1 <-

unexpected behavior of trellis calls inside a user-defined function
I am making a battery of levelplots and wireframes for several fitted models. I wrote a function that takes the fitted model object as the sole argument and produces these plots. Various strange behavior ensued, but I have identified one very concrete issue (illustrated below): when my figure-drawing function includes the addition of points/lines to trellis plots, some of the

Filled triangles in lattice graphics?
Dear R users, I can get a filled triangle pointing upwards by specifying pch=17 in xyplot or lpoints, but how do I get a filled triangle that points downwards? In the standard plot function it's possible to use plot(x,y,pch=25,bg="black"), but bg= doesn't seem to work with lattice and lpoints. Thanks, Hans Gardfjell Ecology and Environmental Science Ume? add single contour line to levelplot
Hello, I want to add a single contour line to a levelplot but can't figure out how to do it 'on-the-fly'. When I include the last line in the code below, I get the following error: Error in NextMethod("[") : Argument "subscripts" is missing, with no default Any tips on how to fix this are greatly appreciated! Clipping of display in Lattice graphics
I'm baffled as to how the Lattice package achieves clipping. Would someone mind explaining this to me? Firstly, my attempt using "just" the grid package: x<-seq(0,3,by=0.3)/2.8 y<-seq(0,1,by=0.1) grid.newpage() grid.rect(gp=gpar(fill="pink")) vp<-viewport(width=0.8, height=0.8) pushViewport(vp) grid.rect(gp=gpar(fill="white")) grid.xaxis()

Hmisc: xYplot and panel.lines
Using the Hmisc package, I tried to create an xYplot (single panel only) and was confused to find that I could not add anything else to the plot (abline, lines, etc.). Thankfully, [1] points out panel functions. This works as expected for panel.abline, but as soon as I'm using panel.lines (or llines or lpoints) from the "lattice" package (version 0.17-17 with R 2.8.1), it

add one point to contourplot()
Hi All, I want to add one point to contourplot().  I used contourplot() in my code like contourplot(z ~ a + b |c, data) I understand there is plot.axes argument for filled.contour(), but it  did not work for my code. I also tried plot() and text() for contourplot(), but got this error: "plot.new has not been called yet" Any suggestion for adding a point in contourplot()? Thank you very

text in qqmath
Hello, I can't seem to make qqmath plot text. v <- rnorm(8) qqmath(~v) # this is ok, but qqmath(~v, panel=function(x, y) { points(x, y) text(0, 0, 'print me', cex=2)}) isn't ok. The axis frame is printed properly (ie, as in qqmath(~v)), but neither 'print me' nor the points show up on the graph. I can, however, see the upper half of the word 'me' in the

lattice to ggplot2 conversion help
Hi, I am interested in ggplot2 and I found this lattice code very interesting (http://addictedtor.free.fr/graphiques/graphcode.php?graph=48). Code: library(lattice) lattice.options(default.theme = canonical.theme(color = FALSE)) tmp <- expand.grid(geology = c("Sand","Clay","Silt","Rock"), species = c("ArisDiff",

Using sunflowerplot to add points in a xyplot panel
Hi, I use panel.points to add points to a xyplot graphic. But I like to use the sunflowerplot to plot my points because this is very superimposed. It is possible to use this? I try but it dont work directly. It may be need to put this function inside a panel.??? Thanks Ronaldo -- Where there's a will, there's a relative. -- > Prof. Ronaldo Reis J?nior | .''`.

rgb and col2rgb color conversion/modification/shading
I want to get a lighter shade of a color...I have a lot of colored objects and want each one printed as a foreground against a slightly lighter background. I thought I could try something like changing the alpha channel by first converting it to rgb. But prior to trying that, I'm stuck with how to get the color after converting using col2rgb() to be interpreted again as a color, rather than

grey colored lines and overwriting labels i qqplot2
I created this graph in ggplot and added ablines to the different facets by specifying with subset commands. As you might see, there are still a few issues. 1.) I would like to have the diamonds in a grey scale instead of colors. I accomplished this (see graph 2) until I overwrote the label title for the treatments and the colors came back (graph 1). I used these two commands: p=ggplot(data =

low-variance warning in lmer
For block effects with small variance, lmer will sometimes estimate the variance as being very close to zero and issue a warning. I don't have a problem with this -- I've explored things a bit with some simulations (see below) and conclude that this is probably inevitable when trying to incorporate random effects with not very much data (the means and medians of estimates are plausibly
