Authentication problem with samba 2.2.5
We have started to upgrade or Unix servers from Samba 2.0.7 to Samba 2.2.5. I did one machine as test and all worked fine. Today I tried adding two more today and both come up with the "Incorrect password or unknown username" box in Windows Explorer. All the Unix servers are running Solaris 7. I did the make on an NFS file system once and then ran 'make install' on each

reading data from web data sources
Hullo I'm trying to read some time series data of meteorological records that are available on the web (eg http://climate.arm.ac.uk/calibrated/soil/dsoil100_cal_1910-1919.dat) . I'd like to be able to read in the digital data directly into R. However, I cannot work out the right function and set of parameters to use. It could be that the only practical route is to write a parser,

xts off by one confusion or error
Hullo I may have missed something blindingly obvious here. I'm using xts to handle some timeseries data. I've got daily measurements for 100 years. If I try to reduce the error rate by taking means of each month, I'm getting what at first sight appears to be conflicting information. Here's a small subset to show the problem: A small set of data: > vv x

permissions not transferred using robocopy, xxcopy, net share migrate shares
Hello: I've been working for a few days on getting a FreeBSD 5.3 server up and running as a samba data backup server. My goal is to schedule periodic backups of our file server. After reading recommendations (e.g. by Mr. Terpstra) I've focused my attempts aroung robocopy, xxcopy, net rpc share migrate shares. However, I'm running into stumbling blocks that seem to involve a problem

What are people using for date fields
I''m just curious about what techniques others have successfully used to capture date data on forms as an alternative to the standard date_select. I have to admit I''ve been lazy and only used the date_select as we have very few dates in our system now, but that is about to change. I would like something better. Any thoughts? -- Thanks, Sam -------------- next part

Date/Time format and syntax
Hi, Just wondering how I get both the current date and time to display here (so far I can only get the date OR the time): @tblregisteredphone.txtregisterdatetime = Date.today Also, how can I change the format of the date and time from: Tue Apr 04 00:00:00 GMT Daylight Time 2006 to 2006-04-04 12:04:00 ?? I''m sure it''s very simple, I just don''t know how

return value of {....}
Dear Avi, Thanks for your reply...your exhortations are indeed justified...! But one caveat: I was not complaining about anything...just was curious of the rationale of a particular design....Thanks again... Popup Calendar and DateBoxEngine and Change Made ...
Community, I have been putting off implementing a Date selector for too long. Tonight, I finally put it in. I made the choice to go with the datebox engine. Once I got it installed and working, I realized I didn''t like the way it required you to call it. Example: <% @dateField = model.date %> <%= date_box %> or... <% @dateField1 = model.date %> <%=

Calendar date picker for use with rails.
Howdy folks, As I was putting together a rough form for a rails app, I got to thinking how much smoother (in my siytuation) a little calendar widget would be than the default date picker selects. Does anyone know if such a thing exists ? I suspect it would have to be somewhat designed with rails in mind to populate the right kind of post params for convenient use at the controller end.

GAMM : how to use a smoother for some levels of a variable, and a linear effect for other levels?
Hi, I was reading the book on "Mixed Effects Models and Extensions in Ecology with R" by Zuur et al. In Section 6.2, an example is discussed where a gamm-model is fitted, with a smoother for time, which differs for each value of ID (4 different bird species). In earlier versions of R, the following code was used BM2<-gamm(Birds~Rain+ID+

return value of {....}
Fair enough, Akshay. Wondering why a design was chosen is reasonable. There are languages like python that allow unpacking multiple values and it is not uncommon to return multiple things from some constructs as in this: >>> a,b,c = { 4, 5, 6 } >>> a 4 >>> b 5 >>> c 6 But that is a bit of an illusion as the thing in curly braces is a very

Redhat Linux and Samba crashing
Hi Folks, A while back I sent a asked a question about Running the Quakeworld server and samba together under Redhat Linux 4.2. I was experiencing complete system lock ups. Anyway, I think I have narrowed the problem down. It's nothing to do with the Quakeworld server though. I can reliably (!?) make my Redhat Linux system crash (totally seize up) by running this simple batch file below on

SysVinit guidance, please
I have experienced a couple of power failures since installing CentOS 5, both while I was working on the system. The first time, several weeks ago, I thought there was some "feature" that I had never seen before but couldn't really put my finger on it. The power came back on after a few seconds and I never missed a beat. I also shrewdly forgot about the anomaly that I had

return value of {....}
Akshay, Your question seems a tad mysterious to me as you are complaining about NOTHING. R was designed to return single values. The last statement executed in a function body, for example, is the value returned even when not at the end. Scoping is another issue entirely. What is visible is another discussion. So, yes, if you can see ALL the variables, you might see the last one BUT there

looping through tasks
Hi, I'm moving (slowly) to R from STATA. I often have need to move through a set of tasks across a series of years. In this case, you can see that I'm mimicking -reshape- in STATA, but I'm less interested in the task than in programming R. library(foreign) mydata<-read.dta("z:\example.dta") for (y in 2000:2002) {
