Letters group Games-Howell post hoc in R
Hello everybody,
I use the sweetpotato database included in R package:
data(sweetpotato) This dataset contains two variables: yield(continous
variable) and virus(factor variable).
Due to Levene test is significant I cannot assume homogeneity of variances
and I apply Welch test in R instead of one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey
posthoc.
Nevertheless, the problems come from when I apply posthoc

I am interested in using "multcompLetters" after running "kruskalmc" but
I'm a newbie and I'm not having luck figuring it out. I can run "kruskalmc" just fine,
but after studying the documentation for "multcompletters" for a long time,
I cannot figure out how to make it work. Any ideas? R input is below

two-way anova nested fix effects issues
Hi list,
I have some anova issues...
I have a dataset comprised of two factor values and a dependent value.
The factors are patchiness and within patchiness I have 4 treatments.
So factor treatment is nested within factor patchiness. The dependent variable is a lenght.
If I'm not mistaken my model would be:
model <- aov(length ~ patchiness + patchiness/treatments)
However there are

more simplified output from glht object
Hi,
I use glht to make multcomp, using Tukey, from a glm model.
It is possible to get a more simplified output of result? Somethink like
ordering by letters.
Thanks

Hi all,
Is there a R-function that orders Tukey results with conveniant letters, similar to the SPSS output (A, AB, ABC, C, etc.) .

non-linear curve fitting
Hi list,
I have a little curve fitting problem.
I would like to fit a sigmoid curve to my data using the following equation:
f(x) = 1/(1 + exp(-(x-c)*b)) (or any other form for that matter)
Where x is the distance/location within the dataframe, c is the shift of the curve across the dataframe and b is the steepness of the curve.
I've been playing with glm() and glm.fit() but without

Performance of concatenating strings
Hi,
I would like to ask how the paste(S1, S2, sep="") function internally
works. Are the two stings copied to a new String?
I have a program where successively strings are build up. First the
program calls an external function and depending on the result it
builds up strings to visualize the result. The external function is
really fast, also for huge input data. But the

extending package with function calling an Objective Caml program
Hallo,
we are trying to extend the R package multcompView in agreement with
the author Hans-Peter Piepho. The function multcompLetters implements
so far a heuristic. We would like to add a function that implements
an exact algorithm and returns a provable optimum result. This
algorithm has been implemented in Objective Caml and we would like to
reuse this code. We wrote an R function

Cisco 7960 Sounds patchy.
I have gotten the Cisco 7960 working with my Asterisk system under SIP.
The version is 5.03 that I am using. Cisco Support said I should not
upgrade to version 6 yet. My next question is the sound is patchy when
people here me. But I can hear them just fine not patchy. I have the
188 page Admin manual and it seem not to say anything about improving
the sound. All other phones like IPDialog work

retrieve name of an object?
Dear all
Is there an easier way to retrieve the name of an object? For example,
> tmp <- 1:10
> as.character(quote(tmp))
[1] "tmp"
> as.character(quote(mtcars$cyl))
[1] "$" "mtcars" "cyl"
> as.character(quote(mtcars$cyl))[3]
[1] "cyl"
The last call more than anything seems a hack. Is there a better way?
Thank you

how to plot a graph with different pch
I am trying to plot a graph but the points on the graph should be
different symbols and colors. It should represent what is in the legend.
I tried using the points command but this does not work. Is there
another command in R that would allow me to use different symbols and
colors for the points?
Thank you kindly.

Ggplot barchart drops factor levels: how to show them with zero counts?
Hello,
When plotting a barchart with ggplot it drops the levels of the factor for
which no counts are available.
For example:
library(ggplot)
mtcars$cyl<-factor(mtcars$cyl)
ggplot(mtcars[!mtcars$cyl==4,], aes(cyl))+geom_bar()
levels(mtcars[!mtcars$cyl==4,])
This shows my problem. Because no counts are available for factorlevel '4',
the label 4 dissapears from the plot. However, I

suggestion: "." in [lsv]apply()
Hi,
I would like to make a suggestion for a small syntactic modification of
FUN argument in the family of functions [lsv]apply(). The idea is to
allow one-liner expressions without typing "function(item) {...}" to
surround them. The argument to the anonymous function is simply referred
as ".". Let take an example. With this new feature, the following call

Can I use a simple linear regression in this situation
Hi everybody,
I'm learning R and statistics and wanted to use a real case scenario for my
study... however a colleague is convinced my use of the linear regression
function is incorrect.
Could you please help clarify if what I'm doing is wrong? And in particular
why is wrong?
I was thinking to use a simple linear regression as a basic predictive
model.

help on sigmoid curve fitting
Hi list,
I was wondering how I should go about fitting a sigmoid curve to a dataset. More specifically how I estimate parameters a and b in the following equation:
1 / 1+exp(-(x-a)*b)
with b the steepness of the sigmoid curve and a the shift of the center of the sigmoid curve relative to the center of your dataframe. The fit is in function of x, the location within the input vector and y, an

store list objects in data.table
Thanks everyone for their responses.
My data is organized in a data.table.? My goal is to perform analyses
according to some groups.? The results of analysis are objects.? If
these objects could be stored as elements of a data.table, this would
help downstream summarizing of results.
Let me try another example.

carsdt[, unique(cyl) |> length()]
