orphaning CRAN packages
Dear R Developers,
the following CRAN packages do not cleanly pass R CMD check for quite
some time now and did not have any updates since the time
given. Several attempts by the CRAN admins to contact the package
maintainers had no success.

I have created an xyplot of a time series with the following code...

panel.xyplot(x, y, pch=19, col="blue", cex=1.25)

Efficient cbind of elements from two lists
Hi!
I have a data.frame "data" and splitted it.
data <- split(data, data[,1])
This is a quite slow procedure; and I do not want to do it again. So,
any unsplit and "resplit" is no option for me.
But: I have to cbind "variables" to the splitted data from another list,
that contains of vectors with matching sizes, so
for (i in 1:length(data)) {
data[[i]]

Overlay of barchart and xyplot
Hello R Folks,
I am new to R. I have been struggling to overlay a barchart with a
xyplot together on one plot but did not get this worked out. Any help
and idea are greatly appreciated.
I attached R scripts for barchart and xyplot below and also data I used.
What I am trying to do is just to put the barchart and xyplot together
on one plot.

StringSwitch class
Sorry for belaboring on a possibly minor point here, but is my
understanding correct that even assuming that the case function is always
inlined so we don't have extra function call overhead, we have the
redundant if (!Result) checks when we use StringSwitch as opposed to a
bunch of if- elses.
Thanks.

StringSwitch class
Hi:
I have a question about the llvm StringSwitch class. Why is this more
efficient than comparing the hashes of the strings or just using a bunch of
if statements.

malformed plot symbols in lattice pdf
Hi,
I'm using panel.polygon inside a custom panel function to generate
filled polygons for an xyplot. Everything is as expected until I
specify a value < 1 for alpha to fill with a semi-transparent color
and output to pdf. The plot symbols appear malformed. Am I doing
something wrong here?
Thanks,
Mark
Here is an example (pdfs are attached):

Save Workspace Image? problem at start up
Dear Sir,
I am using R 2.13.1. Since yesterday when I start the Rgui the
message "Save Workspace Image?" shows up immediately on opening. Even
if I cancel, it does not get cancelled. If I select either no or yes,
it quits. I do not know all of a sudden what happened? Right from
yesterday I am trying my best to run R but am not able to do so.
Please help.
Thanks

writing sample values in to a file
Dear all,
I am relatively new to R. I would like to know how can we write the
realizations (for example generated through rnorm or runif) in to a data
file. It would be very inefficient to first generate values and then write
them in to file using "write" function. Instead, is there a way to generate
1 value at a time and append them in to the file.
The question might be trivial to
