likelihood from test result
Is there any automatic mechanism for extracting a likelihood or test statistic distribution (PDF or CDF) from an object of class "htest" or from another object of a general class encoding a hypothesis test result? I would like to have a function that takes "x", an object of class "htest", as its only argument and that returns the likelihood or test statistic

Mathematica and R
What are some effective ways to leverage the strengths of R and Mathematica for the analysis of a single data set? More specifically, are there any functions that can assist with any of the following? 1. Calling an R function from Mathematica. 2. Calling a Mathematica function from R. 3. Using XML or another reliable data format to pass vectors, matrices, and/or lists from one environment to

high RAM on Linux or Solaris platform
To help me make choices regarding a platform for running high-memory R processes in parallel, I would appreciate any responses to these questions: 1. Does the amount of RAM available to an R session depend on the processor (Intel vs. Sun) or on the OS (various Linux distributions vs. Solaris)? 2. Does R have any built-in limitations of RAM available to a session? For example, could it make use

library() with v. 1.5.0 for Mac OS X Carbon
I am having trouble with the library function of R Version 1.5.0 for Mac OS X Carbon when I try to load libraries that did not come with the R installation. For example, I put the Biobase library from bioconductor.org in the 'library' folder. R cannot find it, even though it can find the pre-installed libraries: > library() # this lists standard libraries such as 'boot',

plotting a marginal distribution on the plane behind a persp() plot
R'istas: I am trying to plot a marginal distribution on the plane behind a persp() plot. My existing code is: library(MASS) X <- mvrnorm(1000,mu=c(0,0),Sigma=matrix(c(1,0,0,1),2)) X.kde <- kde2d(X[,1],X[,2],n=25) # X.kde is list: $x 1*n, $y 1*n, $z n*n persp(X.kde,phi=30,theta=60,xlab="x_b",ylab="x_a",zlab="f") ->res Any suggestions are very

two perspective plots in in plot
Dear all, I would like to put two perspective plots into one plot. The help page for ?persp shows how one can add points and lines but not another perspective plot. data(volcano) z <- 2 * volcano # Exaggerate the relief x <- 10 * (1:nrow(z)) # 10 meter spacing (S to N) y <- 10 * (1:ncol(z)) # 10 meter spacing (E to W) ## Don't draw the grid lines : border = NA persp(x,

two plots side-by-side with persp3d(rgl)
Dear R-users, I would like to place two 3D plots side-by-side in a rgl-setting. It would nice to have something like "par(mfrow=c(1,2))" for basic plots, or an array framework for wireframe(lattice) (see example below). I only managed to overlap two persp3d plots. My final idea would be to animate both surfaces using play3d(rgl). Thanks in advance for any help. Best, Carlo Giovanni

automatic logging of commands
Is there an R function that automatically writes all input and output to a file? I would at least like it to log all the commands I enter, and to preferably also write the standard output to the file as well as to the screen. (The ideal would be to write the input to one file and both the input and output to another file.) I tried R2HTML for this, but I could not get it to work consistently. I am

3D-plotting a 2D-matrix that contains z-values (3rd dimension)
Hello, say I have a 2D-matrix (indexed by x and y), which contains z values, which I want to plot over x-y. Either dotted, or if possible as a landscape. I tried around with persp and plot3d (from rgl) and persp3d (from rgl). I sometimes get something that looks good and a while later, when trying some new data I need to worry about that again. Is there something lika a convenience function

Correct scaling of axis in persp3d plot
Hi, I want to format my axis in my persp3d plot. With my data, which I attached I created a persp3d plot with the following code, which I summarized from different code snippets I found: library(rugarch)library(rgl)library(fGarch)fd <-as.data.frame(modelfit,which ='density')color <-rgb(85,141,85,maxColorValue=255)x <-seq(-0.2,0.2,length=100)y <-c(1:2318)f

overlaying points and lines on a surface3d rgl plot with axes
Hi R users and experts, I am interested in learning more about the use of 3D plots. Specifically, I want to add points and lines to a surface plot. And get the axes and labels plotted also. Here is what I have tried with an example data set : library(rgl) vol2 <- 2*volcano # Exaggerate the relief library(reshape) mvol2 <- melt(vol2) str(mvol2) # First, persp and persp3d plots do not succeed

Layering multiple persp plots
Hi all, I've got two persp plots with Identical X and Y's, and I'd like to plot them on the same graph, so that it is obvious where one plot is above the other. I can't find any mention of this anywhere. Do I need to use wireframe? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, -- Ian Bentley M.Sc. I have a simple neural net-based XOR example, as follows: library(nnet) xor.data <- data.frame(cbind(expand.grid(c(0,1),c(0,1)), c(0,1,1,0))) names(xor.data) <- c("x","y","o") xor.nn <- nnet(o ~ x + y, data=xor.data, linout=FALSE, size=1) # Create an (x.y) surface and predict over all points d <-

Summary: read.table on Mac OS X, CARBON vs. DARWIN
Thanks a lot, James!! The problem is fixed. On the version 1.4.0 Mac/darwin (the latest available version for this system) the function read.table (which is called from read.delim etc., too) has the bug you explained. Inserting the row nlines <- nlines+1 after lines <- c(lines, line) removes this bug. M. On Friday, February 22, 2002, at 02:33 PM, james.holtman at convergys.com

Summary re: read.table on Mac OS 10
Thanks to all who responded. Not all of the advice helped me with that particular problem, but, I have learned a lot just from your answers. 1. R for Mac 10 (Carbon version) uses the Mac convention of using ":" for the usual Unix "/" and thanks to Dr. Lumley for that since I'm new to R, Mac10, Macs in general, and Unix. 2. Interestingly, Dr. Ripley suggested to
