psm/survreg coefficient values ?
I am using psm to model some parametric survival data, the data is for length of stay in an emergency department. There are several ways a patient's stay in the emergency department can end (discharge, admit, etc..) so I am looking at modeling the effects of several covariates on the various outcomes. Initially I am trying to fit a survival model for each type of outcome using the psm

coded to categorical variables in a large dataset
I am working with a dataset where there are 5 possible outcomes (coded 1:5), I would like to create 5 categorical variables (event1...event5). I am using a for loop an if statements, but I have a large dataset( approx 100,000 rows) it takes quite a bit of time, is there a way to speed this up? Here is some sample code of what I am currently doing. test2 <-rep(seq(1:5),2000) event1 <-

data summerization etc...
Hello, I am trying to do some fairly straightforward data summarization, i.e., the kind you would do with a pivot table in excel or by using SQL queires. I have a moderately sized data set of ~70,000 records and I am trying to compute some group averages and sum values within groups. the code example below shows how I am trying to go about doing this pti <-rnorm(70000,10) fid <-

using which to identify a range of values
Hello, I am trying to identify values that fall within a certain range. I thought that I might be able to use the which function to do this but I have been unable to figure out a way to do it. Perhaps a little code will illustrate what i am trying to do. a <- rnorm(1000, 100, 50) which( 100 < a <= 200) of course this doesn't work but illustrates what I ma trying to do, If anyone

Neural Net forecasting
Are there any packages in R that are suitable for doing time series forecasting using neural networks? I have looked in the nnet package and neural package and they both seem geared towards classification. thanks, Spencer [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

weighted quantiles
I have a set of values and their corresponding weights. I can use the function weighted.mean to calculate the weighted mean, I would like to be able to similarly calculate the weighted median and quantiles? Is there a function in R that can do this? thanks, Spencer [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

synaptics problem
Hi, I've recently installed FreeBSD 6.3, and I've got a problem with synaptics. I've installed it, followed the pkg-message : hw.psm.synaptics_support=1 It works, dmesg gives : psm0: <PS/2 Mouse> irq 12 on atkbdc0 psm0: [GIANT-LOCKED] psm0: model Synaptics Touchpad, device ID 0 moused_enable="NO" ps shows me that moused doesn't run. xorg.conf : InputDevice

Does psm::Surv handle interval2 data?
Does Surv in psm handle interval2 data? The argument list seems to indicate it does but I get an error. Thanks, Chris # code library('survival') left <- c(1, 3, 5, NA) right <-c(2, 3, NA, 4) Surv(left, right, type='interval2') survreg(Surv(left, right, type='interval2') ~ 1) library('rms') Surv(left, right, type='interval2') # error args(Surv)

ARIMA xreg and factors
I am using arima to develop a time series regression model, I am using arima b/c I have autocorrelated errors. Several of my independent variables are categorical and I have coded them as factors . When I run ARIMA I don't get any warning or error message, but I do not seem to get estimates for all the levels of the factor. Can/how does ARIMA handle factors in xreg? here is some example

Weibull survival regression
Dear R users, Please can you help me with a relatively straightforward problem that I am struggling with? I am simply trying to plot a baseline survivor and hazard function for a simple data set of lung cancer survival where `futime' is follow up time in months and status is 1=dead and 0=alive. Using the survival package: lung.wbs <- survreg( Surv(futime, status)~ 1, data=lung,

cluster analysis in R
I have two issues. 1-I am trying to use morphology to identify gender. I have 9 variables, both continuous and categorical. I was using two-step cluster analysis in SPSS because two-step could deal with different types of variables. But the output tells me that an animal is in cluster 1 or 2, it does not give me a probability (ex. 0.70 cluster 2). I also did not want to specify that I want two

Propensity Score Matching

Difference between ZFS and UFS with one LUN from a SAN
All, I understand that ZFS gives you more error correction when using two LUNS from a SAN. But, does it provide you with less features than UFS does on one LUN from a SAN (i.e is it less stable). Thanks, Shawn This message posted from opensolaris.org

mouse problems [A4 Tech OP-3D]
After some poking into psm.c code I've got some results. First, for the archives, debug.psm.loglevel tunable is much more useful than a verbose boot for debugging PS/2 mouse issues. A good value is 2. Second, I fiddled with various probe methods to force them to "recognize" my mouse (by loosening their checks) and found out that the mouse works perfectly if it is treated as

hints on KVM switches w/ X
Has anyone got hints on using KVM switches with XFree86? I'm using a wheel mouse and moused, but something gets out of whack when I switch away then back to X. Next time I touch the mouse, all sorts of weird things happen for a fraction of a second, then the mouse starts working OK. This is annoying and dangerous because it often winds up pasting random stuff into xterms..... Are there

See source code for survplot function in Design package
Dear R users, I know one way to see the code for a hidden function, say function_x, is using default.function_x (e.g. summary.default). But how can I see the code for imported packages that have no namespace (in this case Design)? Many Thanks Eleni

NAMESPACE and imports
I am cleaning up the rms package to not export functions not to be called directly by users. rms uses generic functions defined in other packages. For example there is a latex method in the Hmisc package, and rms has a latex method for objects of class "anova.rms" so there are anova.rms and latex.anova.rms functions in rms. I use:

help needed: taking a function out of a package and it can not find some funtions
I tried to modify the R function bw.SJ (from the stats package) for my own use. But if I just get the source code and run directly (without any modification), it can no longer find some key functions called within it. I understand this has something to do with searching path which I do not understand well. Can anyone tell me how to modify the source code of an R function and still make it part of
