install packages question
I am at a new job where my sys admin installed R in linux and it does
run when I log in as a user. I am on linux 2.1.2 but i'm not sure if
it''s redhat etc ( but i doubt this matters for my question ).
The alias put in my .envfile ( for the kshell ) is
R =
"/ms/dev/fsf/R/2.0.0/install/.exec/ia32.linux.2.4.lib6/lib/R/bin/exec/R"
and my R_HOME is

Slow Mapped Drive
I have a couple Samba servers running on Solaris (9 4/04) & FreeBSD
(5.21) that work well (can't remember which version of Samba). I have a
Windows XP Pro box with SP2 on my client. I've set up a Samba server on
a Mandrake 9 Linux box (I think it's Samba 3.04) and when I browse to it
via Network Neighborhood, I get right in.
If I map a drive from my XP client, every time I

fcntl and F_NOTIFY
I've set up dovecot on a testbed server. Each time a user ('myusername')
connects via imap, I get the following info in mail.log:

I'm using these config settings in dovecot.conf in an attempt to avoid fcntl

lme4 package and importIntoEnv errors
I've used packages for some years now and seldom had any trouble using

lmtp memory usage problem - Fatal: pool_system_realloc(268435456): Out of memory
Hi.
In my setup exim delivers mails to dovecot using LMTP. In one LMTP session exim
can deliver up to 200 recipients (batch_max set to that value).
Now the problem is that sometimes 256MB is not enoug for dovecot lmtp to handle
incoming emails.
My questions:
- how big memory limit should be for lmtp? I was thinking that lmtp (more or less) simply
reads from one descriptor and writes to file,

relocation error in grDevices.so
(Warning: I'm not an R guy. I'm a Python guy trying to get the
R-Python interface working again after some upgrades.)
I'm trying to upgrade our numpy/rpy/matplotlib environment (Solaris
10/Intel, Python 2.4). In the process I found I needed to rebuild R
(2.1.1) because it was compiled with gcc 3.3.2 and we have since
migrated to gcc 3.4.1. I'm using this configure setup:

Beginner question about an Error message when loading SWinTypeLibs package
Hi List,
I am trying to learn something about the exchange facilities between R and Windows Application with the RDCOMClient package from (http://www.omegahat.org/RDCOMClient/) and I have faced 2 problems:
1. I could not follow the link for the binary version of SWinTypeLibs package on the site, (as it has given me a restricted permission message), but I downloaded it by searching it on google

S4 Generics and NAMESPACE : justified warning ?
Dear list,
It seems that a package (pkgB) using another package (pkgA) with S4
generics formed by taking existing functions (for example 'plot') must
not import the existing functions ('plot') in its namespace to avoid
the warning "replacing previous import: plot".
Suppose we use the simple 'import' directive in the name space of
pkgB.
pkgA and pkgB files would
