Can I create a timeDate object using only year and week of the year values?
For a model I am working on, I have samples organized by year and week of the year. For this model, the data (year and week) comes from the basic sample data, but I require a value representing the amount of time since the sample was taken (actually, for the purpose of the model, it is sufficient to use the number of weeks from the middle of the sample week to the present). What I have found so

library(fCalendar) timeDate("12.03.2005",format="%d.%m.%Y")
Dear R users, I have problem with the library fCalendar. I am not using the US standard format notations. It seems like it is not possible to have different format than the US standards. Anyone how knows a way to go around this problem? Here is the code I enter: myDate = "12.03.2005" timeDate(myDate, format = "%d.%m.%Y") And I get following error message: Error in if

Mystery Error in midnightStandard
I wasn't even aware I was using midnightStandard. You won't find it in my script. Here is the relevant loop: date1 = timeDate(charvec = Sys.Date(), format = "%Y-%m-%d") date1 dow = 3; for (i in 1:length(V4) ) { x = read.csv(as.character(V4[[i]]), header = FALSE, na.strings=""); y = x[,1]; year = V2[[i]]; week = V3[[i]]; dtstr =

splitting character vectors into multiple vectors using strsplit
Hi folks, Suppose I create the character vector charvec by > charvec<-c("a1.b1","a2.b2") > charvec [1] "a1.b1" "a2.b2" and then I use strsplit on charvec as follows: > splitlist<-strsplit(charvec,split=".",fixed=TRUE) > splitlist [[1]] [1] "a1" "b1" [[2]] [1] "a2" "b2" I was wondering

timeSeries Date Warning messages: Set timezone to GMT!
Hello, I must be doing something wrong that's very obvious. But I just don't see it. I changed my Windows Time Zone to GMT and my Financial Center to Montreal. But I still get several warnings. >Sys.timezone() [1] "GMT Daylight Time" >myFinCenter [1] "Montreal" >Sys.timeDate() [1] "Montreal" [1] [2005-04-19 10:55:02] Warning messages: 1: Set

Converting monthly data to quarterly data
Dear R users, I have a dataframe where column is has countries, column 2 is dates (monthly) for each countrly, the next 10 columns are my factors where I have measurements for each country and for each date. I have attached a sample of the data in csv format with the data for 3 countries. I would like to convert my monthly data into quarterly data, finding the mean over 3 month periods for

CBIND / MERGE two time series objects along time (overlapping indices, redundant data)
Hi there, I need to merge/bind two time series objects (from RPackage: timeSeries) by column. The theory is laid out nicely, even for overlapping indices. In my example, I have overlapping indices ("01.01.2001"), where in one time series I have one data point and in the other redundant data. Default usage of merge and cbind would lead to the result that the one data point would be

Problems plotting a sparse time series in R
Hi guys, I am logging data about my body (weight, body fat, blood pressure, ..) in a .csv file and would like to plot this as a time series. I uploaded the (noisified) .csv, you can see the link in the code I have so far (you can run the code directly as-is): df.raw <- read.csv("http://www.chaotic-neutral.de/temp/stats-noised.csv", sep=";", dec=".")

Problem wiht mvbutils and timeDate in R 2.12
Dear list, We have encountered problems with the package mvbutils while creating (or reading from disk) timeSeries objects. Below is a very simple example of the problem. We are using R 2.12 in  a PC running Windows 7  64-bit Professional. ----------- library(timeSeries)   cv1 <- as.character(as.Date(1:10, origin = "1970-01-01")) ts1 = timeSeries(1:10, cv1, units = NULL)

timeSeq and TimeDate analog in R ?
Hi All : I am attempting tomove a large amount of code from Splus to R and I was hoping that there was an equivalent in R of the Splus functions timeSeq and timeDate ? I did an RSiteSearch but nothing came up ? If the equivalent functions are part of some package, that's fine. Thanks a lot. Mark

timeDate with month designated by three letters.
Dear R Experts: I am trying to convert a date and time character field to timeDate where the month is presented as three letters, such as "JUN" for June, etc. This is an example of the full character field: "04-MAY-11 1428" What is the proper format syntax? I've tried timeDate("04-MAY-11 1428",format="%d-%m-%y %H%M") but only get GMT [1]

Rmetrics timeDate - business days between dates
Hi One of the most important calculation in applied finance is the number of days between dates. That kind of calculus become annoying when a specific calendar must be used. That is the case for the business days calculus. The package timeDate has a function isBizday to perform that kind of thing. The problem is that using this function to calculate the number of business days between dates has

creating character vector
Is there a way to convince R to create a character vector without using the quotes? This works ex1 <- c("first","second") but when I try this it doesn't ext <- as.character(c(first, second)) it complains. I have many variables to put into character vectors so dispensing with the quotes would be useful. Thanks Jim =============================== Dr. Jim Maas
