Penalties of using an eval on every request
Hello RoR! I''m building a rails app for hosting multi-page surveys. I set up questionnaire, question, and question_component models. Now I''m initializing them with some data. survey.rb q1 = Question.new "q1" q1.quote "Welcome to a test of the new interviewing system." q2 = Question.new "q2" q2.quote "Do you like pie?"

Searching ActiveRecord sets
Hey all, I''m learning AR and I''m trying to find the best way to search an ActiveRecord set in order to make a conditional statement decision, something like .has_value?(value) but for a multi-dimensional array like an AR set of like 100 rows. I know I can do something like this: results = Table.find_by_sql("...") for result in results if

[LLVMdev] "Recursive compilation detected" and signals
Hello, Platform is RHEL5, GCC 4.2.4, x86-32, and LLVM/LLVM-GCC from subversion (yesterday evening). I'm compiling C code into bitcode, and then executing the bitcode using the JIT compiler (lli). I've managed to reproduce a problem when multiple signals go off around the same time. A sample program is below. The result is the "recursive compilation detected" JIT compiler

building random matrices from vectors of random parameters
The use of aperm is unnecessary if you call array() properly. ms <- array(c(rep(0, 5),so,sa*m,sa), c(5, 2, 2)) -- Sent from my phone. Please excuse my brevity. deleting from hash question
I''m a ruby newbie and have what is probably a relatively simple problem I''m trying to solve. Say that I created a hash: TASKS = { "homework" => "Do Your Homework", "chores" => "Your Have Chores", "exercise" => "Don''t Forget to Exercise" } and then I had an Assignment model with: def

vfs_fruit and extended attributes
It seems not many folks have much to say about this. Here?s an update for anyone in a similar situation: We narrowed down the issue to being with dispersed volumes. When we created a replicated volume, vfs_fruit worked without issue. Ultimately, what we were seeking was performance. Even for our Windows and Linux users, things could be slow. The good news is that we discovered an SMB config

building random matrices from vectors of random parameters
Thanks for both the mapply and array approaches! However, although intended to generate the same result, they don't: # mapply approach n = 3 sa <- rnorm(n,0.8,0.1) so <- rnorm(n,0.5,0.1) m <- rnorm(n,1.2,0.1) mats = mapply(function(sa1, so1, m1) matrix(c(0,sa1*m1,so1,sa1),2,2,byrow=T), sa, so, m, SIMPLIFY = FALSE) print(mats) [[1]] ????????? convert timespan to verbose description
Hi, I always see RoR pages showing the elapsed time like that ''Published 3 days, 23 hour and 5 minutes ago'' ''Published less than 3 minutes ago'' I guess this conversion can be done using a Rails function, however I can''t find it. Does somebody know its name?? Thanks a lot Peter

core show channels verbose output
At the end of the output for "core show channels verbose" is a line that reads "4 active calls". Does anyone know how that number is formatted if there are more than 999 active calls? Will it have a comma or not? -- Mitch

Package: logcheck-database Version: 1.2.68 Severity: normal Hi, I use postfix, amavisd-new and logcheck on a lenny server, and the mails I receive seem a little to verbose.
