Latex fonts in R graphics
Hello, R users. I am trying to embed Computer modern fonts to an R plot and I get the following error. CM <- Type1Font("CM", + c(paste("cm-lgc/fonts/afm/public/cm-lgc/", + c("fcmr8a.afm", "fcmb8a.afm", "fcmri8a.afm", "fcmbi8a.afm"), sep=""), + "./cmsyase.afm")) > pdf("cm.pdf",

embedFonts() does not embed fonts?
Dear helpers, I'm trying out the embedFonts() to embed fonts into my pdf files. However, when I inspect the new pdf with a program designed to look for embedded fonts, I see that the fonts have in fact not been embedded. Below are my calls. Fit a mixture of lognormal and normal distributions
Hello I am trying to find an automated way of fitting a mixture of normal and log-normal distributions to data which is clearly bimodal. Here's a simulated example: x.1<-rnorm(6000, 2.4, 0.6)x.2<-rlnorm(10000, 1.3,0.1)X<-c(x.1, x.2) hist(X,100,freq=FALSE, ylim=c(0,1.5))lines(density(x.1), lty=2, lwd=2)lines(density(x.2), lty=2, lwd=2)lines(density(X), lty=4) Currently i am using

embedFonts() side-effect under 2.6.2 ?
I received the following as a Debain bug report (cf http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=469560) To reproduce: 1) Run the following commands: filename <- 'test.pdf' pdf(filename) plot(1:10) dev.off() 2) Open test.pdf (I use Evince, but the same with Adobe Acrobat). Make sure there are ten hollow points in the plot. This is correct.

eps file with embedded font
Dear list, I am trying to make eps file with embedded font. I use: postscript("ranking-exp-all.eps", horizontal=TRUE, onefile=FALSE, paper="special", height=8, width=12, family="Helvetica") # plot stuff dev.off() since R does not embed font, I then use: embedFonts(file="indegdistr.eps", outfile="indegdistrEMB.eps",

a fix for rotated PDF graphs
Hi, I have found references for the following problem in the list archives, but no nice solution. So I decided to post one I came up with. The problem is that graphs output as eps files, for example using ps.options(onefile=FALSE, paper="special", width=8, height=8, horizontal=FALSE, pointsize=12) get rotated when I convert them to pdf using epstopdf. Both ghostview and

orientation of eps files
hello, i have a problem with the orientation of eps files produced with the postscript() command. i have generated some eps files with R using: postscript(file = filename, horizontal = FALSE, paper = "special", onefile = F ALSE, height = height, width = width, pointsize = pointsize) now, when i include these eps files into a standard paper document (ie. a4 paper, portrait orientation)

Problem with figure size when embedding fonts
Dear Colleagues: I need to make a graphic that uses the Nimbus rather than Helvetica font family so that the font can be embedded in the encapsulated postscript file. This is to satisfy a requirement from a journal for electronic submission of figures. I do the following: postscript('lowess.eps', onefile=FALSE, pointsize=18, horizontal=FALSE, family='NimbusSan')

MLE with optim
Hello, I tried to fit a lognormal distribution by using optim. But sadly the output seems to be incorrect. Who can tell me where the "bug" is? test = rlnorm(100,5,3) logL = function(parm, x,...) -sum(log(dlnorm(x,parm,...))) start = list(meanlog=5, sdlog=3) optim(start,logL,x=test)$par Carsten. Minor bug in dlnorm (PR#1781)
The density of a lognormal should be 0 for negative arguments, but > dlnorm(-1) [1] NaN Warning message: NaNs produced in: dlnorm(x, meanlog, sdlog, log) A simple fix is to change dlnorm's definition to: function (x, meanlog = 0, sdlog = 1, log = FALSE) .Internal(dlnorm(x*(x>0), meanlog, sdlog, log)) It might be faster to put the same sort of adjustment into the internal code, but

How to compute the density of a variable that follows a proportional error distribution
Hello, I am trying to compute the density of a variable k that is either (1) Normally distributed; (2) Log-Normally distributed; or (3) follows proportional error distribution. I tried to search R-help and the answer for normal distribution was easy to find (please see 1c). I am not sure if my formula for dlnorm is correct (please see 2c below)? I really don't know what function to use for the

Need to help to get value for bigger calculation
Hello R-Experts, I want to calculate values like 15^200 or 17^300 in R. In normal case it can calculate the small values of b (a^b). I have fixed width = 10000 and digits = 22 but still answers are Inf. How to deal the cases like these? Thanks in advance. Regards, rehena [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

some EPS rotated in journal preview
I am trying to send a manuscript to a journal. One of the figures build by R is in the right orientation and 4 are rotated clockwise 90 deg in the preview. I used the right click save to PS option and I used the command line postscript("c:/temp/fig04.eps",bg="transparent",onefile = TRUE ,pointsize=20,paper = "letter",height=8,width=8,horizontal=FALSE,family =

eps embedded fonts again
Dear friends, I am sorry, I again rise that boring question about font embedding in EPS figure. I found some discussions on this topic but there were no strait solution. The publisher (AIP) demands submission of separate EPS file for each figure with all fonts embedded in it (even the standard 14 Adobe fonts). As I understand the R does not do this embedding. It inserts only comments what font

Embedding fonts in pdf graphics
I know you can control this with the cairo package, but I was hoping that embedFonts( ) would provide a way to embed all fonts, not just the non-standard ones. I'm submitting graphics to a journal that wants Helvetica and Helvetica-bold embedded for some reason. Is there an easy way to do this on a pdf graphic created wit pdf()? A linux system command would be excellent for my purpose.

MLE for two random variables
Hello, I've the following setting: (1) Data from a source without truncation (x) (2) Data from an other source with left-truncation at threshold u (xu) I have to fit a model on these these two sources, thereby I assume that both are "drawn" from the same distribution (eg lognormal). In a MLE I would sum the densities and maximize. The R-Function could be:

PDF fonts problem
Dear List, I am writing a paper in Hungarian, that I Sweave and than pdfLaTeX. Everything is fine, except for two accented letters in the graphs that behave strange, though on the screen and in eps exports they look perfect. The problem is that I need pdf graphs, since I would like to have a PDF after LaTeX-ing. For the example below I downloaded the following two font sets: 1. Latin Modern

Question about the proper use of outer()
DeaR all, I do not have a clue with is the following NOT working like I expect to do... (and I cannot find any answer at CRAN)... # This one is for my sample > x _ seq(3,10) # This two for parameters > a _ seq(2,4) > b _ seq(2,5) # This one for the likelihood of a sample >f _ function(a,b) { + prod(dlnorm(x,meanlog=a,sdlog=b)) + } > outer(a,b,f) [,1] [,2]
