fcgi to run cgi scripts
Dear experts,
I have rail site that is running lighttpd and fcgi. I want the default
domain to serve the rails application, and I also want to have a
virtualhost (bugs.mysite) to resolve to a bugzilla instance.
Bugzilla is basically Perl application called through CGI.
I tried to find pointers on how to set fcgi to run both rails dispatcher
and other cgi scripts in a different virtualhost, and

How do I write a generator?
I''d like to take some advice and write a generator to change the
scaffold.css. How do I do that? I looked on the wiki and googled it
but have not found anything yet.
Any help would be much appreciated.

basic ''find'' question
I am struggling to understand the methodology here...
I have a find.rhtml

<%# render :partial => ''form'' %>
<p><label for="client_first_name">First name</label><br/>

Random 502 Bad Gateway
I have moved my project to a dedicated server and I am getting a very
annoying behaviour.
I am able to view the site just fine when using the ip.
The name is properly resolved on my computer, however I am getting
"Bad Gateway The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream
server."
This is simply random. The site works for several minutes, then i get this
message for some

Run fastcgi in Apache 1.3, or proxy through lighttpd?
I''m working with a guy who has Apache 1.3 installed on his server, and
it''s not an option to simply use lighttpd for a Rails application I''m
helping him with. I''ve seen that Apache 2 apparently is crappy when
it comes to fastcgi, but 1.3 isn''t so bad. I can then either just run
my app straight in Apache, or I could proxy it through to lighttpd.

Rubuntu Live CD for Rails
Friends-
I am almost finished with a custom live cd called Rubuntu ;-) This
is an ubuntu live cd variant that comes preloaded with ruby and rails
developers in mind. I already have it working with all the basics but
I was wondering what extras people would like to see on this distro.
What editors with what configurations?
What other tools do people really like for rails development on a

Lighttpd now works for production. Development is broken?
I''ve finally gotten lighttpd working for my production instance (SUSE
10.0 with SSL).
(Had to install the fcgi dev toolkit, the SUSE 10 ruby-fcgi rpm, and
the fcgi gem. I''m not positive all 3 were required, but that is what
I did.)
Now the devel instance of my app is broken.
I''m not sure how to fix it.
Previously I was using WEBrick for both devel and production.

Lighttpd segfaults on first access
I just got a new Debian Sarge server and followed the brainspl.at
"Debian Lighttpd Rails Stack" tutorial.
The only place I deviated was the version of Lighty. The page uses
1.4.7 and I spotted that 1.4.10 was available. I installed that and
couldn''t get anywhere. Lighty died on first access from the test
rails app, and even from a ultra basic static config. No log,

Noob, installing rails on a goDaddy virtual server?
Hi,
I''m completely new to all of this. Not even certain this is an
appropriate forum for an installation question.
I''m just about to plunk down some money to get a virtual server. In
looking over the list of isp''s elsewhere on this site, goDaddy isn''t
mentioned - probably because they don''t offer rails as a standard
distribution. There are some

App running fine on Webrick, ActiveRecord::ConnectionNotEstablished in lighttpd
My app runs fine on webrick, but I get a
ActiveRecord::ConnectionNotEstablished when I try to run it on
lighttpd. Here''s the app''s lighttpd config:
$HTTP["host"] =~ "(www\.)?mysite\.com" {
server.document-root = "/home/pergesuteore/public/"
server.error-handler-404 = "/dispatch.fcgi"

Unable to get the domain in my routes.rb to map custom route tables per domain
I have tried all night trying to find a way to get the host name which is
currently being used within my routes.rb file to do some case/when switching
for specific domains such as this
cgi = ActionController::CgiRequest.new(CGI.new)
case cgi.domain(1)
when /www/
map.connect '''', :controller => ''public'', :action =>
''index''

Background work
Greetings,
I''ve got a rails app which is basically an admin interface to a xml
dataset. Currently I''ve got rails rigged to call a function to spit the
entire dataset to file with every change. This would actually be ok, its
fairly infrequently updated, but when the dataset grows large the user sits
there waiting for it to dump with no feedback as to whats going on. Oh yes,

FYI lighttpd 1.4.9 has problems running with rails out-of-the-box
In case this helps anyone I recently finished setting up a Debian server
closely following Ezra''s excellent guidance @
http://brainspl.at/rails_stack.html.
I used newer libraries in some cases (and mysql 5.0) and everything worked
great until the end when lighttpd wouldn''t start. I finally figured out
that Lighty 1.4.9 has a problem working with rails out-of-the-box. See

Question on hardware for site
For a medium-sized website, does one machine for database server
(either mysql or postgres) and another for the web server (lighttpd)
sound ok? How much traffic could I expect to handle? (I know it
depends on the application, but some rough estimates would be nice)

site takes a while to load after first visit in a while
Using lighttpd + fcgi to power a site. When no one has accessed it in
a while, the first visit to the page takes a while to load up. Then
subsequent visits are fairly fast.
Any ideas on how to fix it?

Rails URLs always try to open non-existent files
The lighttpd config file is set up like this...
Rails url: //host/controller/method/id
Lighttpd tries to open the file ''controller/method/id'' from the document root.
Of course this doesn''t work and generates an error 404
This gets caught with: server.error-handler-404 = "/dispatch.fcgi"
Which turns the request into "/dispatch.fcgi"
That gets caught

Apache - Rails communication.
Please, if this question is not appropriate to this list please direct
me elsewhere. If it has been discussed in a previous thread, please
direct me there. An initial search of the archives did not appear to
show anything.
I am new to Rails but not to app servers having 4 years with J2EE.
The set up of a Rails app seams strait forward and I understand the
MVC model. Initial test code has

lighttpd proxy w/ apache2
I''ve tried a bunch of things trying to get ruby/apache2 and php working
together. I looked over my earlier post and followed the instructions
on ezra''s website to install lighttpd on debian. I''ve gotten really far
but I think there is one bit missing:
1. I got apache2 and php working together
2. I got lighttpd working on port 3000 and my rails app launches ok

lightpd / fcgi / RoR setup
Hi,
I''m running RoR and have set it up more or less like described in the
wiki (for instance here
http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages/LighttpdWithProcessScripts).
I can start the fcgi listener and see that ports 7000-7004 are
listening. I can start lighttpd, and try to connect to the server. I
can restart the default.fcgi listening scripts that i see in "ps ax |

Enterprise Rails Apps
Is there a place I can get a list of "enterprise" Rails applications?
Apparently, even though I''ve looked at the wiki and cited the examples
there, there are some at my organization who still can''t find proof that
Rails is usable in an enterprise setting.
Would you fine folks be able to tell me about some large-scale projects
that could be classified as
