Function that is giving me a headache- any help appreciated (automatic read )
note: whole function is below- I am sure I am doing something silly.
when I use it like USGS(input="precipitation") it is choking on the
precip.1 <- subset(DF, precipitation!="NA")
b <- ddply(precip.1$precipitation, .(precip.1$gauge_name), cumsum)
DF.precip <- precip.1
DF.precip$precipitation <- b$.data
part, but runs fine outside of the function:

Problems with a specific calculate.
Hello friends of R,
My name is Toni, i'm 25 and I'm working on the Meteorological Investigation team from Balearic Islands.
I had contact to you because I have a problem:
I done a file for every day since 1912 about precipitation. That file has the following structure:

summing 15 minute precip data to daily
Hi all,
i'm sure there is an easy way to do this, but i'm stumped, so any help would
be appreciated.
i have a single column of data for precipitation every 15 minutes over a
year. i want to sum the precip to daily data.
so the first 96 records = the first day, the second 96 records = the second
day, and so on....
is there a way to write a for loop that would sum the data to daily, and

R combining vectors into a data frame but without a continuous common variable
Hello,
I have two different files which I'd like to combine to make one data frame
but I've no idea how to do it! The first file has two columns; one is the
date, the following is a binary code for debris flow events. Then my other
file has also two columns; the date and then precipitation data.
The thing is, is that the two date columns don't all contain the same dates.
The binary

readMat - how to retrieve the variables
Hello
I have a matlab MAT file that contains one single variable: a. The
structure of a is as follows:
a.river1.flow (flow values)
a.river1.date_flow (date)
a.river1.precip (precipitation values)
a.river1.date_precip
a.river2.flow
a.river2.date_flow
a.river2.precip
a.river2.date_precip
I have used readMat to load the variable a in R, however I have no idea how
readMat translates a. I managed

Arranging two different types of ggplot2 plots with axes lined up
Hi all,
I want to arrange two ggplot2 plots on the same page with their x-axes
lined up - even though one is a boxplot and the other is a line plot. Is
there a simple way to do this? I know I could do this using facetting if
they were both the same type of plot (for example, if they were both
boxplots), but I haven't been able to figure it out for two different types
of plots.
Below is my

using complete.cases() with nested factors
Hello,
This maybe a newbie question. I have a dataframe that looks like the sample
at the bottom of the email. I have monthly precipitation data from several
sites over several years. For each site, I need to extract years that have
a complete series of 12 monthly precipitation values, while excluding that
year for sites with incomplete data. I can't figure out how to do this
gracefully

stacking consecutive columns
I have a file, each column of which is a separate year, and each row of each column is mean precipitation for that month. Looks like this (except it goes back to 1964).

problem with loop to put data into array with missing data for some files
Dear R-help community,
My main goal of this message is to find a way of skipping a file of a month/year
in a loop that does not exist (and making it's output into an data.out array
would be NA) and moving onto the next year/month in the loop to carry on filling
data.out with real precipitation data.
The situation so far:
I downloaded 50 years worth of GRIB data files from the NCEP data

problem with loop to put data into array with missing data forsome files
Hi Jenny
If you want a general solution I understand.
However I just downloaded the file fine (as far as I can tell) so you
are welcome to have a copy. I can email it to you if you want.
I do not think your test for NA is valid. i.e
if(test != "NA"){
}
I think you should use
if(is.na(test)){
}
Or something similar.

Loading in Large Dataset + variables via loop
Hello, I'm new to R with a (probably elementary) question.
Suppose I have a dataset called /A/ with /n/ locations, and each location
contains within it 3 time series of different variables (all of 100 years
length); each time series is of a weather variable (for each location there
is a temperature, precipitation, and pressure). For instance, location 1
has a temperature1 time series, a

Broadcom wireless card: installation script for Linux-STA driver
Hi,
I just installed CentOS 6.6 on my HP Pavilion DM1 laptop. The wireless
card is only poorly supported in the default setup, so I decided to
write an installation script for the Linux-STA driver, which works
perfectly.

Grab the files:
# git clone https://github.com/kikinovak/centos
Run the script:

how to overlay a map of US on image plot
Dear all,
I have a data set which has latitude, longitude (not in increasing order)
and observed precipitation corresponding to those locations. I am using
image.plot command for that. But I want to overlay a map of US on that plot.
I know we can use map('usa') to draw it, but I dont know how can I overlay
it on the plot of the precipitation data. Can anyone please help me with it?

BCM4313 on CentOS 6.3
Hi all,
I'm a complete newbie in Linux and am trying to get my Broadcom BCM4313
working in my Lenovo S10-3t netbook (CentOS 6.3 installed from LiveCD).
I followed the steps in the wiki, which lead me to ELRepo: wl-kmod. I
followed the instructions there until Step 2:
$ mkdir -p ~/rpmbuild/{BUILD,RPMS,SPECS,SOURCES,SRPMS}
$ echo -e "%_topdir $(echo $HOME)/rpmbuild\n%dist .el$(lsb_release

mean relative differences from all.equal() (PR#9276)
Full_Name: Brad Christoffersen
Version: 2.3.1
OS: Windows XP
Submission from: (NULL) (128.196.193.132)
Why is the difference between two numbers so different from the "mean relative
difference" output from the all.equal() function? Is this an artifact of the
way R stores numerics? I could not find this problem as I searched through the
submitted bugs. But I am brand new to R so I

different legends in lattice panels
Hi listers,
I want to make lattice plots xyplots with the indication of legends
inside each panel with only the points and the lines actually ploted
inside each given panel according to the group(ing) factor.
The code below shows what I have achieved so far and I hope will make
clear what I want to have.
It seems to me that my solution is a very "dirty hack" and there
certainly is

Simple question: How might I convert the text "a, b, c" (or for that matter "a

vector?

Thanks,

[Bridge] Multicast: handling of STA disconnect
Hi Nik,
Flushing MDB can only be done when we are managing it per station not
per port. For that we need to have MCAST_TO_UCAST, EHT and FAST_LEAVE.
Here one more point is - some vendors may offload MCAST_TO_UCAST
conversion in their own FW to reduce CPU.
So, the best way is to have MCAST_TO_UCAST enabled and MDB will become
per station, so we can delete MDB on disconnect. Shall, I create one
