Problems with File_column
Hi,
Rails - newbie here..
I''m setting up an app and am trying to use file_column to upload a
picture with an item and I''m running into several problems.
(Background: I''m running Locomotive Rails under OS X 10.4.4, and using
Safari)
I followed the directions to add the necessary items, then found out
that I had to add the item to make the form tag be a multipart

Clearing a file_column-type field
So I am now able to set/upload an image to my app using file_column,
with a little bit of a change to the code.
I can change the image using an Edit page, but I''m trying to figure out
what to do if the user wants to remove the image. I tried adding a
Remove Image link in my list, but I''m not sure what to do in the
remove_image method in my controller. I tried setting the

file_column
I use file_column and it works fine.
I tried to change the store_dir to a the path I want my files to be
stored and not the default.
I stored some images fine. But when I try to reach my images it seems
like file_column uses the model_name/attribute_name on the image and not
the store_dir I used. How can I change this ?
Thanks in advance

partials and instance variables for file_column
Hi,
Sebastian Kanthak of the file_column-Plugin wrote once:
"is the photo object inside a local variable or an instance variable
(e.g. photo or @photo)? url_for_file_column only works with instance
variables, like all other active record form helpers. Could this be
the problem?"
So I''m using file_column in a partial, e.g.
<%= render (:partial => "product",

file_column :root_path question.
I''m developing on Windows and deploying to FreeBSD+lighttpd using
Switchtower and I''ve got things generally working. My problem now is
that file_column data gets zapped every time I deploy, because
Switchtower creates a whole new myapp/public directory with each rev.
I looked through the file_column docs and found the :root_path option,
which I use in my models as follows:

How to delete a uploaded file with file_column plugin?
Hi,
sounds somehow stupid, but I can''t get rid of my files that I uploaded
into my application via the file_column plugin. Any suggestions?
Cheers

Anyone got a copy of File_Column trunk
Anyone able to post a copy of the svn trunk of file_column? The
website''s been down for the past few days, and I''ve only got the last
release (0.31, I think), which is missing a whole load of goodies.

Error with Rails 1.1RC1 and Properties page
I just tried setting up a simple Rails app, after updating to the
1.1RC1 version of Rails. Generating a simple scaffold worked fine, and
WEBrick started fine with script/server.
I then went to the http://localhost:3000 page and clicked on the
"About your application''s environment" link, and an error was
displayed:

Problem With url_for_file_column/file_column
I am using the very helpful file_column extension in my app.
The uploading portion works great - no problems.
Where I am having an issue is displaying the images in my view. My code
looks like this:
<% for @record in @main_box_releases -%>
<%= image_tag(url_for_file_column("record", "record_cover")) %>
<% end -%
@record is an instance of a class called

file_column mangling URL
Hey,
I''ve gotten file_column to upload a file, drop it in the dynamic
directory, but I can''t display the image, the directories repeat
themselves:
My model:
class Person < ActiveRecord::Base
file_column :image_url
In my view:
<%= image_tag url_for_file_column(''person'', ''image_url'') %>
HTML generated is this:

Looking for DB/Model Design Suggestions
Hi,
I''m working on an app - my first Rails - and am looking for some
suggestions on the best way (or good way) to set up my models / DB. In
general there are teams and matches; a team will participate in multiple
matches, and in each match there will be 6 teams - 3 vs. 3.
I''m going to want to be able, for a particular team, pull up all matches
for that team, to display a

RMagick Resizing Issue
Hello ~
I have RMagick and file_column working in RoR. In my model I am setting up
some standard sizes for the submitted photos. The photo files are created
and named correctly, but the sizes are wrong. Only the second argument of
my geometry call is used, with the width dimension being resized
proportionately.
file_column :image, :magick => { :versions => { "medium" =>

Rails Plugins: Why to register your own functionality with send()?
Hi there,
I have seen in the file column plugin (
http://www.kanthak.net/opensource/file_column/) from Sebastian Kanthak or
David''s acts_as_taggable plugin that to register my functionality I need to
do something like this:
ApplicationHelper.send(:include, InPlaceEditAssociations)
I am wondering why not:
(a)
module ApplicationHelper
include InPlaceEditAssociatons
end
or:

(newbie) #{method}_relative_path empty (file upload 0.1.2)
first off, thanks (a lot!) sebastian for creating this module... I''ve
been spending a lot of time in getting file uploads to work.
inside a project I''m working on, I''ve got two different models using
it... with one of them it''s working just fine. with another,
everything works, with the exception of the url_for_file_column
helper, which shows

problems with file_column plugin
1) installation is not as smooth as some other plug-ins. If you follow
the instructions on
http://www.kanthak.net/opensource/file_column/
it makes a directory called trunk instead of file_column. You have to
manually rename it to file_column. I guess this is a minor annoyance but
it gives me the feeling that things aren''t quite like other plugins.
2) I get this error: undefined

file_column: patched for imagemagick and validation
Hi all,
I patched file_column to add imagemagick transformations of uploaded
content. I added an options hash, and it takes the :magick and
:format keys. :magick is a string of imagemagick command line options
for convert (Reference:
http://www.imagemagick.org/script/convert.php). Format is an optional
extension for the finished image. If Imagemagick recognizes the
extension, then it will

Strange question on file_column
I have met a very strange problem on file_column usage.
After I have added
file_column :image
to the model,everything is ok.
But after I added more:
file_column :image, :magick => {:versions => {
:thumb => {:size => "50*50"},
:medium => {:size => "640*480>"}}}
I can not even start the whole website! Here is the

large file storing in postgres sucks?
Hi,
I''m not sure if this is a postgres issue or not, but I''m using
Postgres 8.1. I have (in my functional tests) the following code:
upload = fixture_file_upload(''/files/podcast.mp3'', ''audio/mpeg'')
post :create, :product => valid_product, :media => { :image => upload }
And then in the controller:
blob = Blob.create :data

file_column permissions
this is getting frustrating...
i installed file_column without a hitch for the first time to just play
around with. using the exact same steps as before, i try to use it with
one of my actual applications, and i get "permission denied" errors. i
figure there might be some conflict with my application so just for
kicks i do the exact same thing i did the first time to test
