pretty eerie feeling: Google "down", Twitter "down", R sites up
Maybe this is just from inside ETH Zurich,
but I haven't seen this before in many years:
for > 15 minutes now, for me and at least someone else here,
- Google (incl. Gmail, calendar..) is entirely unreachable
- Twitter is "connecting" and is not reached (in the browser),
- three major Swiss news(paper) websites (20min, TA, NZZ) are out
of reach,
but "of course"

Major Internet disruption to/from ETH Zurich...
The big Swiss University network provider has been having severe problems
for about 8 hours now
--- particularly the cross-atlantic connection seems broken ---
Many of you will get R-help or ESS-help E-mails very much delayed.
Hope things start working soon by themselves.
[for those that are disrupted: When you get this message, things should be
back to normal; otherwise you wouldn't have

R-project mailing lists (and SVN) - timeout Sunday 21 June
Dear R users,
unfortunately, tomorrow Sunday will be a longish timeout
of our mail services, notably affecting the
R-<foo> and R-SIG-<bar> mailing lists @r-project.org , i.e.,
hosted by the Stats / Math Department of ETH, stat.math.ethz.ch.
Note that also the svn.r-project.org will suffer from the
timeout.
This should be a "once in 8 years" event, hopefully, and we are

R-mailinglists will be "on hold" for a few hours on Saturday.
Our main server [www/ftp/mail] "stat.ethz.ch" (if you want to ping)
will be getting more RAM, new disks with new filesystems, etc.
This will start on Saturday July 24, 10:30 GMT+2 (=MEST) and last several
hours.
In case it would take more than 4 hours or so, you might get messages back
that you sent to the mailing lists R-help, R-devel, R-announce or R-core.
DO NOT REPOST THEM,

ESS 5.2.7 released
Dear ESS users, {BCC'ed to RPM and Debian maintainers of ESS}
We have now released ESS 5.2.7. This is a bug fix release against 5.2.6
where - the new UTF-8 "support" gave problems for Xemacs, and
- accidentally, 'auto-fill-mode' was activated for *.R buffers
with a few new features, see "New Features" below , notably some
extended Sweave supported,

Possible bug in ifup-eth script of Centos 5.2 (combination of bond and bridge)
Dear CentOS,
I think i found a "bug" in the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup-eth script of CentOS 5.2. i can post the my changed ifup-eth script if you want.
Am I the first one with this problem?
Situation:
- eth2 and eth3 should be in bond1 interface
- bond1 should be an interface of bridge named "iscsi"
the problem is that the brctl addif command in ifup-eth gets

R/ESS/Bioc* mailing lists: 2 hour time out -- 6 hours from now
This is (hopefully) a "once in ten years" event,
happening today, from 17--19 CET
(= 16--18 UTC = 11--13 US Eastern == 8--10 US Pacific Time)
The main `vault' (security, air condition,..) where our mail
server hypatia is located will undergo a major `network
re-connection' event that will affect a considerable part of ETH
-- including all the mailing lists

can't up the eth in the vm and access to network
Hi,
I encounter a problem that the eth can't be up in the VM by using VT-d.
I boot the VM using "virsh create vt_d.xml".
The VM could recongize the NIC which was assigned .then I do in VM as
follows:
#cat /sys/class/net/eth0/operstate
down
#ifconfig eth0 up
#cat /sys/class/net/eth0/operstate
down
#ficonfig eth 10.100.0.5
#cat /sys/class/net/eth0/operstate
down

eth enumeration order
I have installed Centos 6 on a server with two NICs. It so happens that
the NIC with the lower ARP adr is assigned 'eth1' and the NIC with the
higher ARP 'eth0'. (Not sure if this a bug but it is at least inconvenient)
I have modified the udev rules in
/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules
by swapping eth0 with eth1 in the NIC's rules.
However: the file gets changed on

More problems with building R on a musl platform
Here is tests/reg-tests-1c.Rout.fail -
http://pastebin.com/raw/3QVDUBwT
About the libm, I don't know which one R uses.
musl has its on libm. http://git.musl-libc.org/cgit/musl/tree/src/math
I think I also have openlibm installed, but I don't think that's used.
Any more information I can give to help debug this?
Thanks.
