2 (related) problems with RODBC in 64 bit Windows
Hi all, I am encountering an RODBC problem in R 2.15.1 in windows 64 bit which I do not encountered in the same set up in windows 32 bit (the latest binary version of RODBC in both cases from the same depository gotten by install.packages(‘RODBC’), Oracle ODBC client software installed in 64 and 32 bit respectively) 1. The code looks like library(RODBC) credentials <-

RODBC on Mac OSX pointers?
Hi, I'm trying to get to grips with accessing my postgresql tables in R using RODBC. I have Mac OS 10.2.8 (Darwin 6.8) installed and R 1.8.0 installed from source and I have updated RODBC to 1.0-4. On the ODBC manager end, I am using OpenLink software's iODBC Administrator and I've set up a User DSN called "PostGRES" - odbctest suggests that this is functioning: >

Excessive query time running R-RODBC against SQL Server
Hi, all. I'm using RODBC to query a SQL Server 2005 database, and am experiencing terribly slow performance. I assume I'm doing something wrong, but I'm not doing anything fancy, so I'm stumped. My setup: Core 2 Duo 2GHz, Win XP, 2GB RAM R 2.7.1 RODBC (latest from CRAN, not sure the version - how to tell?) SQL Server 2005 MS Access 2003 SQL Native Client ODBC driver (DSN =

RODBC Connections closed automatically in background
I am having a problem with RODBC's connections. It appears that my connection to the database is closed by R automatically before I am done with it. Here is my code: foo <- function(dsn) { db <- odbcConnect(dsn) odbcSetAutoCommit(db, FALSE) data <- someDatabaseOperation(db) data2 <- someLongCalculation(data) anotherDatabaseOperation(db, data2) # This often fails b/c the

RODBC not connecting from my Mac
iODBC appears no longer to come standard with OSX, so I installed unixodbc and set it up following instructions here: http://www.boriel.com/en/2013/01/16/postgresql-odbc-connection-from-mac-os-x/ I connected to my remote database with isql -v mydsn. No problem. Then I tried from R: > library(RODBC) > pg <- odbcConnect("mydsn")  # waited for a couple of minutes before pressing

RODBC Oracle and VB automation with R(D)COM
I haven't been able to find any help on this and am really struggling. I use R 2.0.1 on a Windows XP platform, 1GB ram, 2GHz Intel Processor) When I connect through the Rgui R console, the connection is successful (but through VB the attempt

RODBC Error
Hello, I'm using R 2.2.0 on a Mac and attempting to use the RODBC package to connect to a PostgreSQL server on the local network. I can't tell whether my problem is in R, or in ODBC setup. I got drivers from OpenLink, created a dsn and tested it using the iODBC application. then I load the RODBC package, use this code and get the following error. I tried with both the

RODBC - problems using odbcDriverConnect without DSN
Hi, I'm trying to use RODBC without having to set up a DSN, using hte direct connection string in odbcDriverConnect. My connection attempt looks something like: > odbcDriverConnect(connection = "SERVER=localhost;DRIVER={/usr/lib/odbc/libmyodbc.so};DATABASE=myDB;UID=reader;PASSWORD=insecure;") And this returns the message: Warning messages: 1: In odbcDriverConnect(connection =

some helpful tips on using RODBC
Hey everyone, I don't have a question. Instead some helpful advice with things I've learned from trying to connect 'R' to databases using RODBC. ROBDC is a very handy tool that, once you have everything fixed up nicely, is a great way to have scripts run fairly autonomously, safe in the knowledge that data isn't accidentally messed up. But I was fairly ignorant

Query about RODBC to access MySQL from Windows
Hi I am trying to use RODBC in R installed on Windows to access MySQL database (on a linux box). I set up a DSN and specified this DSN in R as follows library(RODBC); channel <- odbcConnect("mysqldsn"); RODB Connection 5 Details: case=nochange PORT=3306 ........ Although this seems to connect properly, running any command yields NO results. i.e. sqlQuery(channel, "show

RODBC Seg Fault
Hi Everyone, At the end of this email is a transcript of a problem I have found in RODBC version 2.3-1. It appears that the bug fix in odbcClose for the memory leak has meant that the garbage collector is falling over when it tries to free up the extPtr attribute of the RODBC connection pointer. Any advice on how to fix this? Thanks for your help, Tom

Help with RODBC connection to multiple MS SQL Sever databases
I'm trying to pull data from multiple MS SQL Sever databse in R. I can access the databases one at a time, but the tables are to large to pull the entire tables then join then in R. So I need to do a SQL join that will join the tables from the each of the databases. How do I combine the connection so that I can implement it in my sql query below. I'm currently getting the following error:

RODBC with Windows XP
Hi R-Users, I have very recently switched from using R on windows 2000 to windows XP Professional. With XP I am having problems using the "odbcConnect("")" command. I can use the command perfectly well until I close the database channel with the command "odbcClose(channel)". When I try and re-establish connection following the close command no dialog box appears

RODBC for 64-bit R with 32-bit Access
Hello Folks, I do hope this is the correct place to post (and not in R-SIG-DB). I have spent the better part of a day searching for an answer to this question, and have yet to resolve it. I am trying to query an .accdb Access database (with 32-bit Office 2007 currently residing on the machine) with 64-bit R via RODBC. There seem to be some conflicting accounts as to whether or not this is

How to assign RODBC object as R class slots and method signature

For example:setClass("foo",

rodbc windows doesn't find dsn
Under WinXP, I have a system DSN called foo. It has stored username/password information. (I can click Configure in ODBC Administrator and then Test Data Source connects to MySQL without me re-entering data.) Using RODBC, I can connect to the same database. But when I do odbcConnect("foo"), I get a window that requires me to re-enter username/password information. It seems like

RODBC with RAqua
Hi, I use RAqua on mac os x 10.3. I am trying to connect to an odbc dsn, but RODBC can't seem to find it. I have it installed in my ODBC Administrator in /Applications/Utilities as a system-wide data source. does RODBC need more than just the dsn name (like a path or something)? I have everything set up identically on a windows box, and all seems to work fine. thanks, peter
