Undefined method stub
When I try to execute the following example, I get an error message: /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/mocha-0.5.4/lib/mocha/object.rb:40: in `expects'': undefined method `stub'' for nil:NilClass (NoMethodError) from test8.rb:5 What could be the reason? I tried with the latest Mocha Ruby gem, and I also tried it with the Rails plugin. The example: require

Preferred Ruby Editor/IDE for OS X?
Just a quick question, if I were tired of typing ruby into a terminal editor, say I wanted, oh, a scroll bar, mouse support, and maybe syntax highlighting? Anyone know os a good Ruby/Rails editor or IDE, one that runs on OS X, possibly in Java? -Josh ----------- Due to the recent increase in spam and falsely sent email, I now PGP Sign all of my outgoing mail to prove my identity. Runt Recurring events
I am planning on using Runt to calculate recurring events. I calculate a Runt object in the view and use it to see if it includes a certain date, which is populates from the database, and display the info for that date if it is included. I have recurring events for every week, which was pretty easy to set up. I can just say: r = Runt::DIWeek.new(4) For a recurring event every Thursday, and

Date Field convert to Seconds since Epoch
Hi, I was wandering if anyone could help me with this problem: Right now I am using a field in my database which is of type ''Date'' (in the form dd-mm-yyyy). I would like to convert this value (for example 26-06-08) into a number of seconds since epoch or into another form so I can compare it with todays date (from Date.now) so that I can tell the difference between the two dates

Dynamic Text Replacement
I noticed there are a lot of PHP based dynamic text replacement examples out there such as: http://artypapers.com/csshelppile/pcdtr/ Is there anything like this for Ruby / Rails? I know there''s always SiFR but that method is often frustrating because I''ve noticed significant slow down in page load time even on pages that use it sparingly.

Moving / Copying files inside server across different shares
Hi guys! when I move a file inside a share (for example, from \\server\myshare\dir1 to \\server\myshare\dir2), Samba manages it in order to make the move inside the server. That is, its very fast because the file never gets downloaded to the client. My problem is that when moving a file across different shares, it gets first downloaded to the client and then copied back to the new location. For

Changing default date format in Rails
I''ve spent all day digging through the rails api and postgres-pr on this, I think it''s time to ask the list. Postgres stores a Date in YYYY-MM-DD format. My users want the dates in MM/DD/YYYY format. Sure, I could explicitly convert it on the app level every place where a date is displayed, but that seemed like a DRY violation. I thought I''d be clever and simply

Navigation menu
I have a navigation menu that contains a link per controller in my application. This menu is the same for all controllers, but I want this behaviour: <a>Users</a> <span>Statistics</span> and <span>Users</span> <a>Statistics</a> depending on the page you''re currently on. I''ve put a <render :partial =>

Skewness and Kurtosis
Hi, in which R-package I could find skewness and kurtosis measures for a distribution? I built some functions: gamma1<-function(x) { m=mean(x) n=length(x) s=sqrt(var(x)) m3=sum((x-m)^3)/n g1=m3/(s^3) return(g1) } skewness<-function(x) { m=mean(x) me=median(x) s=sqrt(var(x)) sk=(m-me)/s return(sk) } bowley<-function(x) { q<-as.vector(quantile(x,prob=c(.25,.50,.75)))

Custom date format
Hi, I''ve followed these directions : http://railswiki.pdxruby.org/HowToDefineYourOwnDateFormat.html It seems pretty straightforward but obviously it doesn''t work for me... article.date_edited.to_formatted_s(:my_format_1) produce a default formatted date, not the one I''ve defined in environment.rb : ActiveSupport::CoreExtensions::Date::Conversions::DATE_FORMATS.merge!(

Configure Rails for previous installation of MySQL
I''m "exploring" Ruby and Ruby on Rails. Like what I see so far, but have one question. How do I configure Rails for a previous installation of Apache and MySQL? I already have both products installed working to my needs and would like to keep the environment the same. Previously, I installed Rails using the InstantRails for windows "bundle" but ran into many

Any pioneers who've configured passenger to support some apps running in 1.8.x others in 1.9?
Passenger configuration selects which ruby executable to use via a global configuration variable (at least for Apache, I assume it''s the same for Nginx). I''m in a situation where I''ve got at least one rails app I''d like to run on 1.9 while others remain on 1.8. This is for my development machine running OS X 10.6. Normally I just use the Passenger PrefPane,

Read data from Excel
A client of mine has a ton of data stored in Excel spreadsheets. I''m building a web application for her (backed by a real db of course) and want to import all that data. Is there a library available to read data from Excel? Is there an easy way to upload the spreadsheets and then read the data? Thanks, Ken Kousen -- Kenneth A. Kousen, Ph.D. President Kousen IT, Inc.

I have a customer that I''m developing a solution for on RoR. They have IIS today and use Sharepoint for their intranet. Is it possible to have some kind of single sign-on between these systems? So when a user is logged in to ther Sharepoint she will also be logged in to my rails-app? We haven''t decided yet on what to deploy rails on so I''m open to suggestions... If we

customizing Asterisk CLI
Hello, when I am in the Asterisk CLI, I can exit with 'exit' or 'quit'. Ctrl+d has no effect. Is there any way to "bind" Ctrl+d to exit/quit ? Also, when I am in asterisk CLI, I can use command history and readline functions such as CTRL+r to search. But not all functions are available. For example, the alternate mappings for "page up" and "page

Auth_generator: to handle users
Hi everyone, I have made an announcements few weeks ago about auth_generator. As we released few versions since, I send another one on the list. The auth_generator gives you an admin interface to handle users, can display user informations on static pages, allows you to choose what crypting algo you want to use (you can use a salt per account if you want for better security) and much more.
