Customised legend in lattice
Hi List,
Am trying to customize a legend in trellis: Draws 2x5 lines in 5 colors and
2 linetypes. I would like to add two more items to the legend showing the
key for the line types above the colored legend.
Any suggestions welcome - thanks Herry

Border width on symbols plotted with the lattice package
Dear list members,
I can't figure out how get 'xyplot' or 'dotplot' in the 'lattice'
package to respect the 'lwd' value for specifying the border with for
*symbols* (for lines it works fine). Example:
-----
# Base graphics works fine (gives a 'fat? circle)
plot(5, cex=10, pch=21, lwd=10)
# But 'xyplot' or 'dotplot' doesn't

Darker markers for symbols in lattice
In lattice, using the command trellis.par.get for superpose.symbol, plot,
symbol and/or dot.symbol shows that we can specify alpha, cex, col, fill
(for superpose.symbol and plot.symbol), font, and pch. Trial and error
shows that the font affects letters but not pch=1 or pch=3 (open circles
and plus signs.) I want to use open circles and plus signs, keep the colors
and cex I've specified but

minimize white space around lattice plot
Dear list,
I'm trying to produce a plot via xyplot with minimal sourounding white
space. However, I cannot find the options in xyplot, ps.options or
wherever which prevents lattice from drawing quite some white space
around my plot. However, this is quite a problem for me as I want to
produce an inset plot inside another lattice-plot. I'm using the panel
function to open a viewport and

lattice package: line end style
First, apologies for no example data but I don't think it's needed in
this case,
Q: Can (and if so how ) the line end style be changed for 'cloud' plots?
I've tried par(lend=2), trellis.par.set(add.line = list(lend=2)) and
much googling but to no avail
Thanks in advance
Dan
P.S. the reason for this is that the round end looks bad at lwd=3 or

line endings in lattice plots: square vs. round
I would like to use llines() to draw lines with
square endings in lattice plots. But the default
behavior seems to be to draw lines with round
endings. How can I change this?
I'm looking for a parameter like par('lend') or
get.gpar('lineend'), but trellis.par.get() doesn't
seem to have anything analogous.
I searched the archives but saw nothing on this.

Does anybody know how to control the appearance of the end of the line in lattice?
Hi All,
I am plotting vertical lines using xyplot in lattice and type="h".
It works well, but the problem is that the tops of the lines are convex and the bottoms are concave.
Is there a way to flatten the tops and bottoms?
Here's my code:
Source<-matrix(1:30,10,3)
colnames(Source)<-c("x","y1","y2")
Source<-data.frame(Source)
xyplot(y2+y1~x,

Controlling line-join style in Lattice
R users,
I am creating a series of scatterplots with Lattice's xyplot(). Some of the plotting symbols are squares with thick borders. The corners of the squares are rounded by default; I would like them to be square. In base graphics this is easily done with par(ljoin = "mitre"), and in grid graphics with gpar(linejoin = "mitre"). Is there an analogous parameter in

Key titles in Lattice
Hi,
I'm creating some lattice plots that have a key and I'd like to put a
label on the key. The problem is that the text label for the key
prevents the values of the group variables from being shown (see example
below). I don't think that this is a feature, but I might be abusing the
title arg for key.
I'm using R Version 2.3.0 (2006-04-24) on Windows XP and lattice V0.13-8

custom panel help in lattice
Hi,
I am having an issue with a custom panel for lattice. The problem
comes when I try passing a groups argument.
Here is the custom panel, a wrapper for smooth spline. I copied
panel.loess and replaced the loess arguments with smooth.spline().
[Note: I would like to use the cross-validation fitting properties of
smooth.spline.]

Lattice device page options-margins
I am using lattice to make figures as pdfs:
trellis.device(device = "pdf",file = "Figure6.pdf",color = FALSE)
I need to specify some blank space on the left-hand margins (the pages
will be bound so we need about 0.5 inch)). I have tried a number of
solutions but none seems to work (e.g. par.set). Can this be done when
initiating the plotting device? Or is the some other way

lattice: customising panel.segments using groups
Hi,
I want to customise the segments on an xyplot. Below is a simple example
of what I'm trying to do...
#Example dataset
x <- c(-0.25, 0.25, 0.8)
y <- c(-0.5, 0, 0.75)
gp <- c("A", "I", "C")
my.data <- cbind.data.frame(x,y,gp)

xyplot tick marks and line thickness
Hello,
A made a xyplot using the lattice library in R (latest version).
The publisher of our paper has requested:
1. all tick marks should point inwards instead of outwards.
2. All lines should be thicker (lines, axes, boxes, etc. Everything). Lines is easy...I used: lwd=1.5 but what about the lines of the axes, and the lines that build up the plot itself?....?

latticeExtra: useOuterStrips and axis.line$lwd
Hi,
I'm working on some lattice wireframe figures that have two conditioning
factors, and I want the strips labelled on the top and left of the
entire plot, rather than above each individual panel. useOuterStrips()
does this, but it draws internal axis lines, even after I explicitly set
axis.line to 0. Is there a way to use useOuterStrips but without axis
boxes?
I've included a short

ow to apply a panel function to each of several data series plotted on the same graph in lattice
Hi
is it possible to fit a trend line (or some other panel function) through each of multiple data series plotted on the same graph? Specifically, while one can do something like
xyplot(a+b+c~x)
which plots three series, a,b & c, but can one automatically fit lines through each of them?
I suppose one could generate three more variables afit, bfit, and cfit with a model & predict and

[R] proposal: lattice/levelplot: panel.catlevelplot
I suggest to add a panel function to levelplot (or perhaps
to an other 3d lattice function) which is able to translate
the z values into the size of the rectangles.
It could be used to display categorical data.
I append the proposed code and two examples:
- panel.catlevelplot()
- example1.catlevelplot.esoph()
- example2.catlevelplot.esoph()

lattice : using both strip and strip.left
Dear all,
I'm routinely using lattice and ggplot2, I wish to create a lattice
theme that looks not too dissimilar to ggplot's defaults so I can
include both graphs in a document with a consistent look.
To illustrate my questions, consider the following example:
> library(ggplot2)
> library(lattice)
>
> # example data
> x <- seq(0, 10, len = 100)

change axis format for different panels in xyplot in lattice
Dear R users,
My apologies for a simple question for which I suspect there
is a simple answer that I have yet to find. I'd like to plot
panels in lattice with different graphical parameters for the
axes. For example, the code
x<-rnorm(100)
y<-rnorm(100)
z<-c(rep(1,50), rep(2,50))
library(lattice)
xyplot(y~x|z)
plots two panels with the default black axes. Running the

How to set the parameters in Trellis Graphics (by Lattice package)
Dear R users
I plot the trellis graphics by using the lattice package. Everything is
OK. Now, I want set
some parameters of the trellis graphics.
1. The tick label site. By default, only two tick labels had been output in
x-axis of my plot.
I want output four or five tick labels. In the traditional graphics system,
it will be very easy.
Just not output the axis in plot by use the parameter
