bivariate normal cdf
-- R Help List --
I am looking for a bivariate normal cdf routine in R. I have some fortran routines for this, which appear to be based on 15-point quadrature. Any guidance/suggestions on making these in loadable R-functions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan

multilevel factor model in lmer
Hello --
I am curious if lmer can be used to fit a multilevel factor model such as a
two-parameter item response model. The one parameter model is
straightforward. A two-factor model requires a set of factor loadings
multiplying a single random effect. For example, a logit model for the ith
subject responding correctly to the jth item (j=1,..,J) is
logit[p(ij)] = a1*item1(i) + ... + aJ *

RHOME
R-help --
I built R-2.2.1 in my own directory on a sun (solaris). Now I would like
the sysadmin to move the contents to /usr/local/lib and place the binary
in /usr/local/bin. No problem. However, the RHOME variable defaults to
the directory from which R was built so it is not usable by anyone but me
or ROOT. I would like to avoid building this again if possible. Any ideas?
Thanks,

[PATCH 0/4 v1] Remove gettextify, implement OCaml gettext.
Version 1 of the patch, for discussion, but not to be applied. It
does work, but needs a lot more testing.
This removes all the psychopathic gettextify cruft, and replaces it
with a 99 line Makefile.am. A large win, I think.
The third patch implements gettext support in the OCaml tools.
The fourth patch is just for illustration. It shows the consequent
changes to libguestfs.pot and the po

Callbacks seems to get GCed.
Dear list,
I am trying to implement a publish-subscribe mechanism in for an embedded
R interpreter. But somehow my registered closures seem to get collected by
the GC, even though I have protected them. I have reducted my code to the
following sample. Sorry if it is a little verbose.
The first couple of call of calls still work, but at some point one of the
callbacks (callback1 in my

automake 1.6 compatability patch
This patch cleans up the vorbis-tools Makefile.am files so they work with both
automake 1.4 and 1.6. Some changes to configure.in were also needed in order
to get things to work (and to fix some ac 2.50 issues).
Please remove config.h from cvs as it is a generated file and empty anyway.
automake 1.6 isn't really incompatable with 1.4, it's just more picky about
you sticking to the rules:

gc_inhibit_torture definition twice?
I have a problem to understand the way gc_inhibit_torture is defined.
In include/Defn.h it is declared as extern, using the __MAIN__ trick this leads to
a definition in main/main.c.
But in main/memory.c you define (and initialize) gc_inhibit_torture again:
int gc_inhibit_torture = 1; /* gets set to zero after initialisations */
Then, in e.g. unix/system.c immediately at the beginning of

typo in R-ints.texi's description of P_ macro
I think there are some missing words in "R Internals"'s description of
the P_ macro.
It currently has "A macro as a wrapper for ngettext", which I think
ought to be
something like "The macro P_ may be used as a wrapper for ngettext".
The following patch also makes the 2 alternate definitions of P_ have
the same argument names,
StringS and StringP. Expanding the

samba-3.3.4 AD/krb5/pam build failure on AIX 5.3/6.1 UNKNOWN_CREATE_KEY_FUNCTIONS
Hi all!
Perhaps someone here could tell me if this has been seen before.
We're trying to build samba-3.3.4 for IBM AIX with support for PAM, Active Directory, and Kerberos.
The end goal is to be able to join the AIX system to our Active Directory domain so that users can log in via their AD username/password, and have access to their home directory via the Windows pass-through authentication

Rf_initEmbeddedR in Windows
Hi All
My C++/linux program uses Rf_initEmbeddedR to start R and then calls some
R functions. Now I try to port it to Windows. Give the fact that
Rf_initEmbeddedR is missing in Windows, I try to use the implmentation in
Rserve by Simon Urbanek. When I build in MS Visual Studio, I get the
following linking error

vorbis-tools 1.2.0 Release Candidate
I bumped the version number of vorbis-tools and am preparing it for an
eventual release in a few days.
A changelog of what's new may be found at [1].
Meanwhile, what's in SVN is a "Release Candidate" to find out if
anything was broken since version 1.1.1. Report any (or lack of)
problems you may find, so we'll be able to put out a new version of
vorbis-tools.

BLAS and the Sun Performance Library
Hi, all,
We just got the Sun Performance Library for our Suns running Solaris 2.6,
and I read the relevant section of the "R Installation and Administration
Manual" about configuring R to use BLAS. The manual suggests you must use
Sun's "cc" and "f95" (maybe "f90"?) compilers in order to use the Performance
Library. We have "cc" but not

R with Sun Studio Fortran 95 compiler
Hi,
I am trying to compile R 1.9.1 and 2.0.0 on Solaris 2.8 with Sun Studio
Fortran 95 compiler but I have obtained some errors which I enclose. I
have compiled R with g77 GNU compiler and it was OK.
Does anyone know if R 2.0.0 has been successfully built on Solaris 2.8
with Sun Studio Fortran 95 compiler? or at least, How could I achieve
this? The R installation manual does not have any

Successfully building 2.3.1 with Sun One Studio 8 on Solaris 9 (SPARC)
I had a hard time building 1.9.1 with the Sun One Studio
on Solaris (SPARC) almost 2 years ago. I filed a bug report,
but I can't seem to find it right now. For 2.3.1, I discovered
that the same problems remain. Here are the tricks that
resolved them for me if anyone is interested.
#1. /usr/lib/cpp will give you nothing, but headaches.
Fortunately, the Solaris Software Companion CD (SSCC)
