Use select_date for my model?
Hi all
I have a model "party" that has a time field "starts_at". I have created
a form to add new instances of this model.
<%= select_date Date.today, :prefix => ''party'' %>
Sadly I get the error:
NoMethodError in Parties#add
undefined method `month='' for #<Party:0x256a600>
How can I fix this problem? I remember that I saw in

Using form fields that arent in database
Basically I need to know how to use forms fields when the attribute name
for it
doesn''t match a field in my database. I have a form like this.

here..." %>
<%= time_select ''assessment'', ''ends_at_time''%></td>

Accessing datetime elements from hash passed to method
I''m passing hash (called ''params'') to a method. Some keys (one of them
is called ''starts_at'') in that hash have date as a value (taken from
datetime_select helper). I want to access the date elements like date
only or time only but I''m just out of ideas.
def self.new_meeting(params)
str = params[''starts_at(1i)'']

Default value for model var
I know this has got to be a really dumb question, but here goes anyway.
I''ve got a model with an associated table. One of the columns in the
table is ''date_created'', which I want to be set to the date/time each
row was added to the table.
Seems to me that setting this in the initialize method for the model
would be the right thing to do,...

Working around/with Restful Authentication
I''m using Restful Authentication, and the code to create a user is
pretty straight forward - there is a before_save action and a
before_create action:
before_save :encrypt_password
before_create :make_activation_code
But for some reason when I try to create a user programmatically in
the controller like this:
User.new(:email =>

Site Navigation With Polymorphic Has Many Through
Hi, seem to keep running into a wall here. I can''t find any resources on
site navigation that can deal with any model being in the nav, allow
nesting, and can dynamically update.
So I thought about it for a while, and decided on a MenuItems class, which
contained the position of the child in relation to it''s siblings, where the
parent and the child were polymorphic. Then a given

DateTime format YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SSZ ????
Hi all -
Implementing my first web service with rails and trying things out using
the "/controller/invoke" interface. Mostly works fine.
But I have a function that takes a datetime and returns all rows that are
newer than that. According to the log the SQL it''s generating is this:
SELECT * FROM xxxx WHERE (created_at >= ''2006-04-25T13:18:31Z'')

datetime_select, is creating an instance of the Time class
Hello
It seems that datetime_select, is creating an instance of the Time
class. Why would that be?
I found this while building a site where people can create vigils
(prayer vigils, peace vigils, etc). When I added a validation method
that compared start_date to created_at, it generated the error:
ArgumentError (comparison of Time with DateTime failed):
I was able to put a breakpoint in the

Can not create model instance via params on specific model but can on others....
Anyone have an idea on this? Got a weird situation where on a specific model
I can not create an instance using params, yet it works fine on other
models. The model which does not work is a stock model, there is no logic in
it. Ruby 1.8.7/Rails 3.0.5.
Does not work:
