Prediction error for Ordinary Kriging
Hi ALL, Can you please help me on how to determine the prediction error for ordinary kriging?Below are all the commands i used to generate the OK plot: rsa2 <- readShapeSpatial("residentialsa", CRS("+proj=tmerc +lat_0=39.66666666666666 +lon_0=-8.131906111111112 +k=1 +x_0=0 +y_0=0 +ellps=intl +units=m +no_defs")) x2 <- readShapeSpatial("ptna2",

looping through spatial points and getting counts of spatial points in spatial grid in R
Hi, I am stuck in a looping problem. It might be an easy problem for experienced R users but I have been unable to do it. Any kind of help or advice will be great appreciated. I am creating a spatial grid and have a list of spatial points in a folder. I can read the spatial points separately and get a count of the points in the spatial grid in R. The output should be a table showing the counts of

Problems with a specific calculate.
Hello friends of R, My name is Toni, i'm 25 and I'm working on the Meteorological Investigation team from Balearic Islands. I had contact to you because I have a problem: I done a file for every day since 1912 about precipitation. That file has the following structure: > str(Ast) Loading required package: sp Formal class 'SpatialPixelsDataFrame' [package "sp"]

Using RGDAL to "copy" header information...
R-geographers... I'm trying to solve a problem to implement a line-by-line tiled processing using RGDAL (read 1 line of an image, process the one line, write one line of the image to a binary file). Everything except for the final step I'm able to do using a combination of RGDAL and r-base commands. Below is the basic structure, the input file "elev" can be any image file

Point pattern to grid
Dear all, I'd like to change a point pattern to a grid of cells and use one of the variables as the output. e.g. The point pattern is of a window of (500*500) and several features such as pH, SoilType etc. I like to divide it into a grid with cell size 5*5, and use the mean of the point values falling inside the cell as the output. Is there any package in R working with this? Thanks in

spatial plots maps-ssplot
Hi all, I have made a plot with ssplot, using a SpatialPointsDataFrame. The content is quite simple, as I have 9 grid points with lon/lat coordinates and 9 values attached to these coordinates. They are in a square area of 3 by 3 gridboxes. I would like to lay a map from maps() over these values, but when I try this, the grids of the maps (smaller) do not overlap with the grids I have

R software to place points on Yahoo maps
Is there any R software that create an image from Yahoo maps together with points of known UTM coordinates (or lat/long marked? Note that my region of interest is not covered in sufficient detail by Google maps. It actually does not have to be Yahoo maps as long as it has sufficient coverage of my region but that's the one I have found with coverage of my region. The scale I am interested in

Giving a first good impression of R to Social Scientists
Dear all, in the coming Winter Semester, I will be a teaching assistant for a course in Survival Analysis. My job will be to do the lab sessions. The software used for these lab sessions will be R. Most of the students have a background in social sciences and the only stats package they used so far is most likely SPSS. So I assume they might be quite surprised the first time they see R

Memory limit problem
Dear List, I am trying to?plot?bathymetry contours around the Hawaiian Islands using the package rgdal and PBSmapping.? I have run into a memory limit when trying to combine two fairly small objects using cbind().? I have increased the memory to 4GB, but am being told I can't allocate a vector of size 240 Kb.? I am running R 2.11.1 on a Dell Optiplex 760 with Windows XP.? I have pasted

making a grid of points
I'd like to evaluate a function at each point on a 2 or 3-D grid. Is there some function that already does this, or generates the grid of points? My search has led me to the grid and lattice packages, and I found a reference to the sp package (e.g., SpatialGrid) for this. There are things in there that might be relevant, but at first blush many of them are embedded in other concepts (grobs,

importing ascii grids (for gstat)
Hello, Is there anyone who could give me an example of how to import an ascii grid (i.e. ArcGIS exported raster) into R. I want to use it with gstat but don't know the appropriate import routine. Thanks very much for your help. Regards, femke Femke Reitsma Graduate Student (ABD) Geography Department 2181 LeFrak Hall University of Maryland College Park, MD 20742 Phone: 301-405-4121

Histogram plots in Lattice with spatialgrid dataframe data
Hi all, I can not seem to get what I want using the Lattice package to generate an array of histograms of spatialgrid dataframe data. I can use the sp package and spplot to generate an array of maps that display an array of spatialgrid dataframe data -- that's good. I have:

how to sub-sample a variable on another file coordinates
Hello 'R' Users, I have a monthly mean CO2 necdf data file defined on 1x1 lat by lon coordinate. I want to sub-sample this variable CO2 on the coordinates of another ASCII data file. The coordinates of another ASCII data file are as: -24.01 152.06 -18.58 150.19 -13.46 148.35 -8.29 147.03 -3.14 146.19 1.53 145.59 7.08 145.33 12.25 145.02 17.46 144.31 22.44 142.35 27.53 141.26 33.04

Trying to rename spatial pts data frame slot that isn't a slot()
Dear List, I am analyzing the home range area of fish and seem to have lost the individuals ID names during my manipulations, and can't find out how to rename them. I calculated the MCP of the fish using mcp() in Adehabitat. MCP's were converted to spatial points data frame and exported to qGIS for manipulations. At this point the ID names were lost. I brought the manipulated

S4 method dispatch
List, In order to get rid of some old, unreadable S3 code in package sp, I'm trying to rewrite things using S4 methods. Somewhere I fail, and I cannot sort out why. In order to isolate the problem, I created two functions, doNothing<- and dosth, and both should do nothing. The issue is that in most cases they do nothing, but in some cases dosth(obj) changes the class of obj and breaks with

Histogram plots in Lattice with spatialgrid dataframe data
Hello all, After more digging I was able to find out how to do this. The answer came from an example here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/3541713/how-to-plot-two-histograms-together-in-r yr_1997<-data.frame(bias=ann_bias$bias1997) yr_1998<-data.frame(bias=ann_bias$bias1998) yr_1999<-data.frame(bias=ann_bias$bias1999) yr_2000<-data.frame(bias=ann_bias$bias2000)

Histogram plots in Lattice with spatialgrid dataframe data
Glad you found an answer, though it looks more self-educational than efficient (see suggestions below). In the future, follow the recommendations of the Posting Guide: use plain text, and provide a reproducible example. Some elaborations on what "reproducible" means are [1][2][3]. One issue here was that you did not include sample data to work with (I have assumed below that ann_bias has

error with bbox for k12hat (splancs) bivarite k-function
Hello, I am trying to conduct a bi-variate ripley's k using the k12hat function in the splancs package (found here http://rss.acs.unt.edu/Rdoc/library/splancs/html/k12hat.html). Although, I receive an error when getting to the bboxx part of the code: poly <- list(x=c(fire4$X, nar4$X), y=c(fire4$Y, nar4$Y)) plot(seq(5,80,5), sqrt(k12hat(fire4), as.points(nar4),

truly object oriented programming in R
Good morning! I recently implemented a KD tree in JAVA for faster kernel density estimation (part of the code follows). It went well. To hook it with R, however, has proved more difficult. My question is: is it possible to implement the algorithm in R? My impression seems to indicate no as the code requires a complete class-object framework that R does not support. But is there an R package or
