Two or more dimensional root (Zero) finding
Good morning to all, I should find the zero of a specific function with respect to a vector of arguments. Does it exist something similar in R? Thank you very much, Enrico Foscolo

Inverse of one function
Dear Partecipants to the list, I am searching a R function, which can calculate the inverse of one real value function. Does it exists a R code in order to make it? Problems about Derivaties
Dear participants to the list, this is my problem: I want to obtain an expression that represents the second derivative of one function. With "deriv3" (package "stats") it is possible to evaluate the second derivative, but I do not know how I can get the (analytical) expression of this derivative. For example: Suppose that I have a function of this form:

Visualizing complex analytic functions using domain coloring
Hi has anyone coded up domain colouring for visualizing complex analytic functions (such as elliptic functions)? [ the idea is to depict a complex function f(z) using a filled.contour() variant in which the hue is given by Arg(f(z)), and the saturation by Mod(f(z)). ] -- Robin Hankin Uncertainty Analyst Southampton Oceanography Centre European Way, Southampton SO14 3ZH, UK tel

analytic solution for equation
Hello, I have search on R website but do not find any solution. I would like to know if R has some functionalities to produce analytical results of equation. or more generally if it contains some functions to simplify equation. For example: I would like to obtain x1 from: x1+x2=8 (x1=8-x2) x1^2+x2=8 (x1=sqrt(8-x2)) Is is possible in R ? if not, do you know a (free) software that could do the

Patents on algorithms harm data analytic services
Cologne, 10.12.00 Dear Sir, Dear Madam, We are concerned about the possibility that the European Commission might introduce software patenting into the European Community because we think this will harm our profession. We make our living on data management and statistical analyses. Modern statistics crucially depends on algorithms [cf. Venables, W. N., & Ripley, B. D. (1999). Modern applied

optional fields in function declarations; Solved
thank you to both Adaikalavan and Patrick. on the basis of Adaikalavan example this is an example that point out my problems. >log_raise=function(num, exp, base){return(log(num^exp, base))} I would like to have optional fields, so some settings to be default parameters; if I declare the function as above the operator must of course input all the variables. Finally I could fix as follow.
