help with lmer,
Hi R-users:
New to R and I am trying to run a GLM with random effects.
I have 3 replicates ('Replicate) of counts of parasites ('nor.tot.lep')
before and after an experiment ('In.Out'). When I run lmer I get the
error messages (16 of each) below...
> lmer(nor.tot.lep ~ In.Out + (In.Out|Replicate),data=coho, family
=tweedie(var.power = 1,
+ link.power = 1))

Five functions proposed for base
Dear r-devel,
Among the R functions I have written and later shared with colleagues,
there are five that I hope will become a part of the R base package. The
tasks are neither specific nor marginal, so rather than creating one more
'misc' package, I would be happy if the R Development Core Team would
adopt these functions and hammer them into shape.
The functions are available from

Help on estimated variance in lme4
Dear all,
I get an error message when I run my model and I am not sure what to do
about it.
I try to determine what factors influence the survival of voles. I use a
mixed-model because I have several voles per site (varying from 2 to 19
voles).
Here is the model:
###
fm5 <-lmer(data=cdrgsaou2,
alive~factor(pacut)+factor(agecamp)+factor(sex)+ResCondCorp+(1|factor(cdrgsa
ou2$ids)),

[PATCH] xfs: Add support for v3 directories
Besides supporting newer version of xfs file system, this patch also
does some code refactoring and fix completely broken listing and
searching on v2-3 node directories.

Why warnings using lmer-model with family=binomial
Hi all!
My question is why, and what I can do about that
I sometimes, but not always, get warning-messages like
nlminb returned message singular convergence (7)
in: LMEopt(x = mer, value = cv)
or
IRLS iterations for PQL did not converge
when trying to fit a model looking like this:
lmer<-(cbind(Diseased,Healthy)~Fungus+(1|Family)+(1|Fungus:Family),
family="binomial") to four

error message explanation for lmer
I am getting the following error message using the lmer function for mixed
models with method="Laplace":
"nlminb returned message false convergence (8) in: LMEopt(x=mer, value=cv)"
Could anyone explain what this means, and how I might overcome (or track
down) the problem?

Error messages using LMER
Dear All,
After playing with lmer for couple of days, I have to say that I am
amazed! I've been using quite some multilevel/mixed modeling packages,
lme4 is a strong candidate for the overall winner, especially for
multilevel generzlized linear models.
Now go back to my two-level poisson model with cross-classified model.
I've been testing various different model specificatios for the

Gmail invitation
Hello R users!
I just found out that I have 49 invitations for Gmail (gmail.google.com).
I have been using it now for a while and is really nice. Don't forget
1 GB for free.
I will invite those who respond to this mail by FIFO.

Animation problem
Using the animation package, I am trying to show fish movement over a jpeg of
our study area. I want to show fish detection at each of 5 sites on each day
they are detected. Each of the five fish species will have their own color
(not coded yet). I am able to create the animation, though the data is not
plotting correctly, and I feel that the problem lies with a loop that I
can't seem to

How to get mode (the most frequent value in distribution)?
Hello!
I have a continous distribution and would like to get mode (the most
frequent value in distribution). I easily found mean, median and other
basic thing but not mode function. Can anyone help?
I know there my might be problems with multiple modes, but still I think
that there should be a mode function in R.
Please send mail to R-help list and me, so I can get response faster.
Thank

F90
Hello!
Has anyone successfully compiled F90 sources in R-package? I found the
same question on r-devel list from 2002 and I wonder if there is any
progress. I heard that g95 and gfortran can be usable.
And one more thing. I have a program written in F90 and lets suppose that
compiler is not a problem. I've read manual 'Writing R Extensions' and
successfully loaded one F77 subroutine

Test for argument in ...
Hello!
Say I have a function foo1, which has argument ... to pass various
arguments to foo2 i.e.
foo1 <- function(x, ...)
{
foo2(x, ...)
}
Say that foo2 accepts argument arg1 and I would like to do the following:
- if foo1 is called as foo1(x) then I would like to assign some value to
arg1 inside foo1 before calling foo2
arg1 <- "some value"
foo2(x, arg1=arg1)
- if foo1 is

Sweave and \input or \include LaTeX commands
Hello!
I was just wondering if Sweave can work with \input or \include
LaTeX commands. So, is it aware of such a possible hierarchy in
documents. I would test that, but I don't have such a report
available at the moment.
I thought of that when I was writting shell script for Sweave
from command line and I have solved that part there.

Upgrading R
Hello!
New version of R has came out and I would like to thank to all developers
on this matter. So I should probably upgrade. Fine and no problem. For
windows I just grab the latest precompiled binnaries and install them. Then
I see a report on a bug, which is or will be fixed in pacthed version. So
I need to get binnaries from patched build and install them, right?
