How to search with range when I am using AAF
acts_as_ferret :fields => {

Strange Sorting Issues
Hi there,
I''m having some strange sorting stuff goign on. Here''s my search method:
sort_fields = []
sort_fields << Ferret::Search::SortField.new("name",
:reverse => :false)
@results = Listing.find_by_contents @search_criteria, :limit => :all,
:sort => sort_fields
page = (params[:page] ||= 1).to_i
items_per_page = 9
offset = (page - 1) *

AAF Sorting by date - what am I doing wrong?
I''m trying to sort my search results by Date, in descending order. I''ve
done quite a bit of reading through the forums here, and I''ve tried two
different suggestions.
This just returns results in the same order as a search without a sort:
sort_fields = []
sort_fields <<
Ferret::Search::SortField.new("ferret_created_at",:reverse => :true)

[AAF] remote indexing via DRb with acts_as_ferret
Hi!
Aaf trunk has undergone several major refactorings the last days, with
the result that you can now transparently switch your app from local
to remote indexing and back :-)
If you plan to scale your app to more than one physical machine, or
if you have problems with corrupted indexes and the like under high
load, you really should give this a try.
I wrote some documentation to get you

sorting results with aaf multi_search
Is it possible to sort the result of acts_as_ferret multi_search the
way you can with find_contents?
I''m using the latest ferret and aaf. I have an interface that offers
multiple search options which search different fields of a single model.
In addition to these, I also have an "all" search type which is meant to
pull in one additional model and consider all indexed

aaf and stop words; query parser
I''ve been trying to implement acts_as_ferret in my latest project and ran into a snag. If I do a search for ''auditor state'' then the search works perfectly. If I include a stop word, as in ''auditor of state'', then I get no results. I''d prefer not to set stop words to nil and index everything.
The solution, that I have yet to attempt, is to use

A Ferret/AAF success story
Hello everyone-
We recently added full archives search to Lingr (http://www.lingr.com),
and we used Ferret/AAF to do it.
I''ve written a blog post with some details of that integration, and I
thought some of you might be interested. See
http://blog.lingr.com/2007/05/we_heart_ferret.html.
I''m grateful to the authors of Ferret and AAF, as well as to all the
people in this forum

Newcomer perceived problems with AAF/Ferret
I blogged about some of the problems with aaf in production
(http://www.jroller.com/BrightCandle) yesterday but inspired by the
poitive response I thought I would share the perceived problems and
discuss some of the potential solutions to help newcomers and make aaf
work as if by magic just like Rails does.
All of these problems boil down to one simple problem, running acts as

Ferret/AAF Stability?
Hello. I''m the author of DataMapper (http://datamapper.org), and am
trying to choose what Full-Text-Indexing engine/plugin I want to
include by default. I was hoping you guys could help. :-)
Sphinx comes highly recommended, but without live index updates, it
just doesn''t seem practical for most of my work.
I''m most experienced with Solr, but the whole HTTP::Request and

When does ferret / AAF decide to reindex?
I am experience situations where accessing the index results in a
complete re-indexing of the model. I have not been able to detect a
pattern.
Under what circumstances does Ferret (or AAF) decide that it needs to
rebuild the index? I''ll be happy to look at the code relevant to this
if someone could direct me to it.
Thanks,
John

Ferret::QueryParser::QueryParseException
During our last week of Ferret / aaf usage (also our first week of
Ferret / aaf usage), I have received 8 messages stating that our app
encountered a Ferret::QueryParser::QueryParseException. For instance:
A Ferret::QueryParser::QueryParseException occurred in foo#search:
Error occurred in src/q_parser.y:279 - yyerror
couldn''t parse query "com -- 404". Error message

Sorting/Ordering Search Results
Hello All,
I am having an issue with AAF and sorting results of a search. Right
now, I have results being split onto pages of 10. The results are being
sorted alphabetically, but not across multiple pages - it''s just sorting
the 10 it pulls down on each page. I noticed another post from April
regarding this same issue (http://www.ruby-forum.com/topic/62993#66934)

[AAF] acts_as_ferret 0.4.0 released
Hi folks!
Just wanted to let you know that I released aaf 0.4.0 on last weekend.
Besides the DRb server it also includes a new lazy loading feature that
lets you do ferret searches without actually loading any records from the
DB. Useful e.g. for live searches:
model:
class MyModel
acts_as_ferret :fields => { :title => { :store => :yes }, :content => {} }
end

Ferret::StateError while using acts_as_ferret
I''m fairly new to ferret / aaf and finding it much easier to use than
HyperEstraier (which I migrated from). However, I am getting a few
errors and I need to figure out if they''re problems with my usage of
ferret or a bug I should report. I''m currently running Ferret 0.10.11
with acts_as_ferret (latest via svn external) and 3 times today I''ve

AAF and DRb with highlighting
How would I change this method in order to get highlighting working with
DRb? I''ve given up on searching on Google, I''m getting no results that
are actually helpful.

Sorting by score
Hi I think this is a very easy question but here goes:
I want to sort my results by a boolean field and then by score, I
thought this would be a default configuration but apparently not.
sort_fields = []
sort_fields << Ferret::Search::SortField.new(:sponsored, :reverse =>
:true)
that is my current code, how do iu alter it so that the results are then
sorted by highest score first?

using highlight from aaf
Hi,
I''m trying to use highlight ferret method with trunk aaf and 0.10.1
ferret.
In my search display I use:
Myindexedclass.ferret_index.searcher.highlight(@query, result_line.id,
:content)
* searcher is a protected method; how can I access to the searcher from
aaf ?
* is the doc id in aaf the same as my model id ?
* is the first param, query, the string query or the query object ?

Pagination problem with acts_as_ferret
Hi,
am using this wonderful plugin acts_as_ferret and according to the
tutorial at http://railsenvy.com/2007/2/19/acts-as- ? rial#basic
I worked it out except the pagination feature.
If I have 12 records and I give limit to 10, its correctly displaying 10
records in the first page and is giving the link to the second page too.
But when I go to the next page I find the same 10 records instead of
