ppinit
Probably a simple question, but I can't find the answer to it ...
In the 'ppinit' code it describes how it takes a 'file in standard format' and creates a point process object with it. Can anyone enlighten me as to what this 'standard format' is? The example given doesn't allow me to view the '.dat' file that apparently is in this format.
Thanks,
Suzie

using grib files in R
I am not new to R, but I am new to .grib files. I am downloading some
climate data and I would like to analyze it in R. R has a nice netcdf
package, but I don?t see any package available to deal specifically
with grib files. I see a few posts from other people using grib files
in R. However, I was unclear if they used grib files in a different
software program and then imported the data

Finding the neighbors of the point
Dear all,
I got point data of trees. I was wondering if anybody has experience in searching the neighbors within a specified distance efficiently.

What I want to do is : searching for the neighbors with a distance R for each tree & the neighbor must have a bigger Z.

plot problem
Hello.
I'm pretty much new to R and I'm trying to produce some figures.
It seems to me, that R has some asynchronous way of plotting figures.
When I run this code:
#constructs the semivariogram of SC1929
vgm1 <- variogram(SC1929~1,~U+V,puerto.map$att.data)
# trying to make new plot
dev.set(which=dev.next())
plot(vgm1)

Problem loading package with version, S4 classes and NAMESPACE
I've run into a problem that I hope has an obvious solution. The sp
package uses S4 classes and has a NAMESPACE, and when installed without
package versions, runs OK, passes R CMD check, and so on.
A user reported that he installed it --with-package-versions, and that
from then on it would fail at first use of a class defined in the package.
I've reconstructed the problem in a

R/octave/matlab etc.
I'd echo a lot of what has been said about this by the folk who have
been making R work so well. One of the main difficulties is that the
environment of computations affects relative performance. e.g., what
settings did a distro package builder choose. I note that my 3 GHz Dual
Core machine running Ubuntu 8.04 gets
octave 3.0.0

Fedora 29 upgrade: texlive-scheme-medium may depend on R
On upgrading my F28 to F29, I've found that R-core and a number of R
packages:
R-evaluate R-glue R-highr R-knitr R-magrittr R-markdown R-mime R-stringi
R-stringr R-yaml
are installed, although I only ever install R from source and always keep
my Rs locally. So I don't use Fedora R rpms, but these were installed
without my command.
Something in texlive is doing this. A remedy is to

R.matlab memory use
Hi,
I am trying to load into R a MATLAB format file (actually, as saved by
octave). The file is about 300kB but R complains with a memory

help on dyn.load()
Hi,
I used .C to call the C functions inside R. Everything works fine on the
linux sever.
I installed cygwin on my windows xp x64 platform and used rcmd shlib xxx.c
to compile. Everything works fine till now and xxx.dll is generated. But
when I use dyn.load("xxx.dll") in R, it will open another R window and the
original R window becomes "Not responding", nothing loaded in

R vs Matlab: which is more "programmer friendly"?
Hi,
The department of economics at our university (Budapest) is planning a
course on numerical methods in economics. They are trying to decide
which software to use for that, and I would like to advocate R. The
other alternative is Matlab.
I have found comparisons in terms of computational time for matrix
algebra, but I don't think that is relevant: the bottleneck for
economists is usually

[LLVMdev] multiple function return values in LLVM
Hi Yabin,
Octave uses an octave_value_list object to return multiple values so I
don't think it has anything to do with the compiler.
A sample function that can be dynamically linked with Octave and
called from octave interpreter:
#include <octave/oct.h>
DEFUN_DLD (divmult, args, nargout, "") {
octave_value_list retval;

knnFinder package
Dear all,
I have found some serious bugs in the knnFinder package (which supports
data structures and algorithms for both exact and approximate nearest
neighbor searching in arbitrarily high dimensions) that may trigger
segmentation faults.
I have fixed them but I had troubles to contact its maintainer Samuel E.
Kemp (previously with the University of Glamorgan, UK). Do someone know

Need frequency distribution for x,y coordinates
Hi,
I have a set of data in x,y coordinates across the range of -5 to 5 in each
dimension. I would like to obtain the frequency distribution of the
different points, and then graph them so you can see which of the points are
the most frequently occurring.
This would seem to be easy in Matlab, which has the hist3 command for doing
frequency distributions/histograms in 3 dimensions. However,

eigenvalues of complex matrices
Dear all,
I want to compute the eigenvalues of a complex matrix for some statistics.
Comparing it to its matlab/octave sibling, I don't get the same eigenvalues
in R computing it from the exact same matrix.
In R, I used eigen() and arpack() that give different eigenvalues. In
matlab/octave I used eig() and eigs() that give out the same eigenvalues but
different to the R ones.
For real

Porting R example datasets to GNU Octave
Hi, R Developers,
I'm interested in porting the R example datasets package to GNU Octave
and Matlab. Would you have objections to my doing so?
This would involve transforming the example data and metadata into a
format that Octave understands, and porting all of the datasets' Example
code pieces to Octave M-code. (This would require no work on your part;
it'd be my project.)
