broken link in docs for Binormial functions
On the local documentation page for Binomial, i.e.
http://127.0.0.1:xxxx/library/stats/html/Binomial.html
The link to Catherine Loader's paper
"Catherine Loader (2000). *Fast and Accurate Computation of Binomial
Probabilities*; available from
http://www.herine.net/stat/software/dbinom.html."
appears to be broken.
Kind regards,

Binomial distribution & Catherine Loader's paper
Hi,
I've been trying, without success to find a copy of the paper, by Catherine
Loader, that describes the algorithn underlying the rbinom() and associated
functions. The title is "Fast and Accurate Computation of Binomial
Probabilities." All of the links to the paper that I've seen (including in
the R docs) lead nowhere (i.e. are 404). I've sent Dr. Loader several
emails,

In principle a good idea, but I'm not sure the whereabouts of Catherine Loader are known at this point. Last peeps from her on the net seem to be about a decade old.

What about using the Wayback Machine archive ? The web archive should be
more stable than other links which also might disappear in the future.
E.g.
https://web.archive.org/web/20070610002602/http://www.herine.net/stat/software/dbinom.html
, which also links to an archived copy of the PDF.
Best regards,

FWIW the link from ?dbinom to the Loader paper on Binomials is broken but the paper seems to be
available here: https://octave.1599824.n4.nabble.com/attachment/3829107/0/loader2000Fast.pdf

binom.test() query
Hi Folks,
The recent correspondence about "strange fisher.test result",
and especially Peter Dalgaard's reply on Tue 03 April 2007
(which I want to investigate further) led me to take a close
look at the code for binom.test().
I now have a query!
The code for the two-sided case computes the p-value as follows:
if (p == 0) (x == 0)
else
if (p == 1) (x == n)

SEM help!!!
I have just started using the SEM package in R, so I'm not sure I'm doing
everything right, but I keep getting an error concerning startvalues and I
can't figure out how to fix it. Is anyone willing to read over my code
and help me out??? Please email me if you are willing to look at my code
and I will send it to you.
Thank you so much, and Happy New Year!

for loops?
Hello R people!
How can one use a for loop (or something similar) in R? As I type in each
line, I get syntax errors... I'm just confused how much to type in at each
">" prompt.
Thanks for your help,
cathy

i param in "for" loop does not takes zeros?
Hi all
Is there any reason why the parameter i in a "for" loop ignores a value of
zero? For example
sim=c()
p=.2
for(i in 0:5)
{sim[i]=dbinom(i,5,p)
}
sim
[1] 0.40960 0.20480 0.05120 0.00640 0.00032
In this example the quantile i= 0 was ignored since
dbinom(0,5,p)
[1] 0.32768
The same behaviour occurs if I use a while loop to perform the same
calculation:
sim=c()
p=.2
i=0

This has come up before.
Here's the last time:

I guess my answer to the following the question...
Perhaps we should ask permission to
nail the thing down somewhere on r-project.org?
...would be, to reproduce it somewhere.
And then update the link in the binom help file.

package loading smooth.lf (LOCFIT), couldn't find functio n "smooth.lf"
The version of locfit on the web site mentioned apparently has been revised
by Prof. Loader, and is newer than the CRAN version that I have been
maintaining. If Prof. Loader is OK with it, I will take a look and see if I
can get the new version into CRAN-conforming form and upload to CRAN.
Meanwhile, make sure you're using the package from Prof. Loader's web page,

Binomial simulation
Hi Guy's
I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction.
dbinom(10,1,0.25)
I am using dbinom(10,1,0.25) to calculate the probabilty of 10 judges
choosing a certain brand x times.
I was wondering how I would go about simulating 1000 trials of each x value
?

Brendan

Netbios node type value WITHOUT wins server only WITH DNS server
Getting rid of netbios does not mean you should not configure it.
You "should" configure it.
And even if you disable WINS, LLMNR is still running, so you gained.. .. Nothing with disabling WINS.
Just in this case make sure your NETBIOS names obey the DNS rules and

Configuring two channels
Hi there,
Are you able to assist us to configure two channels on icecast?
We need to reconfigure icecast (our audio streaming server) to stream
multiple "mount" points, to include the two additional streams that a
digital radio app requires.
Thank you

problem running a function
Dear people,
I'm trying to do some analysis of a data using the models by Royle & Donazio
in their fantastic book, particular the following function:

that applied to my data and in the console is as follows:

Samba 3.0 AD usage problems
Dear all,
I downloaded samba3.0-alpha21 and followed each step in "ADS-HOWTO.txt".
But mapping a network directory from a Windows client failed (step 4:
Test your server setup).
(Succeeded in other steps.... Including step 5)
Only local users in the samba server can access the share folder.
(Please refer to the smb.conf listed below...)
