Dear Friends, I'm trying to generate a sequence of 100 observations with either a 1 or -1. In other words the sequence should look something like this. y = 1 1 -1 1 -1 -1 -1 1 1 ...... Can somebody please give me some direction on how I can do this in R. Thanks Anup ____________________________________________________________________________________ Don't get soaked. Take a

RMySQL on win32
List, I just left an environment where I was running R and mysql on CENTOS. At the time of install, RMySQL was available on CRAN. Later installs on Ubuntu were possible because it was available as a package in the base repos. Now I'm in a new environment where I have no choice but to use Windows XP. I have just installed R 2.4.1 and MySQL 5.0.27. The installation instructions for getting

Has many through join table issues
I''m trying to wrap my caffeine soaked brain around has_many :through following along at: http://rails.techno-weenie.net/tip/2005/12/23/teaching_your_blog_model_new_tricks_with_has_many_through I think my models are a little more complex than what fits this narrative. I have a directory of members, each member can belong to multiple categories. The category table references itself

Re: Subscribe to multiple files - Modification
Hello, I apologize for the duplicate post, but I made a typo last time. I am trying to notify the service, not subscribe to it. Also, I found that notifying a service, in this case nfs, appears to cause the service to load even if the service is configured to be disabled. Is this supposed to happen, or should the ensure => stopped state be enforced even during a notify? Thank you, -- Rob

FLAC: decoding to WAV in the future
What Brian Willoughby means is that even though the future is uncertain, you may trust FLAC. The format is mature enough so that you won't see major changes preventing playback of files encoded by older encoders, but even if that comes to happen, the playback libraries on most software will be backwards-compatible, and FLAC is lossless meaning that you may convert FLAC 1.1.4 to a possible

testing two-factor anova effects using model comparison approach with lm() and anova()
I wonder if someone could explain the behavior of the anova() and lm() functions in the following situation: I have a standard 3x2 factorial design, factorA has 3 levels, factorB has 2 levels, they are fully crossed. I have a dependent variable DV. Of course I can do the following to get the usual anova table: > anova(lm(DV~factorA+factorB+factorA:factorB)) Analysis of Variance Table

ANOVA and Pseudoreplication in R
Hi, As part of my dissertation, I'm going to be doing an Anova, comparing the "dead zone" diameters on plates of microbial growth with little paper disks "loaded" with antimicrobial, a clear zone appears where death occurs, the size depending on the strength and succeptibility. So it's basically 4 different treatments, and I'm comparing the diameters (in mm) of

Does XEN support crash carts?
While VNC is good enough, it doesn’t work if the NIC is down. So is there a way to switch amongst guest VM’s once a crash cart’s monitor/keyboard/mouse is attached to the video/USB/etc. ports (on the back of the physical box running XEN)? For the network down (out-of-band) emergencies, is there a way to switch amongst domain and/or guest VM consoles once a crash cart ‘terminal’

Shared behavior and_raise problem, and site aestetics
Hello, Is anyone else having trouble with the and_raise method on mocks, with respect to shared behaviors? If I do the following instead: foo.should_receive(:bar).and_return { raise } everything seems to work. I have been supplying no arguments to and_raise, by the way. Also, you may want to make the background in the code examples on the home page a little lighter. I am hardly able to

problem after mongrel_cluster 1.0.2 upgrade
Dear all, In the past, I''ve been successfully using mongrel_cluster following codahale setup [1]. Now I updated mongrel_cluster through gem to 1.0.2, and my previosly worked config is not working anymore. I report below a snip of one of logfile, it seems to me it is a missing gem problems, but this sounds strange to me, because my config was ok before the upgrade. Does

possible bug in 3.0.24 with var expansion?
Hi all, I have found what appears to be a bug in 3.0.24. I upgraded from 3.0.22 and have been using this setup for some time. Also using a LDAP backend. My existing users had ldap profile directory set as follows: \\%L\profiles\username And samba home share as \\%L\username However, once I upgraded to samba 3.0.24, the server sends the windows clients the un-expanded path of

FLAC 1.1.4 vs FLAC 1.13
I've compiled 1.1.4 for the mvpmc project and my experience is that it is slower not faster, which seems to contradict the release notes. What are others experiencing? The MediaMVP's cpu is a powerpc 405 no floating point and there isn't much free memory if that makes a difference. Martin

post-reload SSH server key transfer ... comments ?
I am going to be replacing system X with system Y (which is much faster, newer). I will load up the new system from scratch, and then just copy over the user data from the old system. Then I will turn off the old system for good, and set the IP and hostname of the new system to match the old one. Easy. Except everyones ssh connections will complain loudly about potential MITM attacks, etc. ...

Router dropping packets?
Hey guys, I have several Linux routers in place at high-usage locations (student apartment complexes). I''m having trouble with some of the routers which use 6Mbit DSL lines as their Internet feed. The routers use PPPoE and perform NAT. During peak usage periods, the routers are dropping alot of packets. I''m lead to believe this is because there are too many active

Unexpected behavior of difftime in relationship to daylight savings time
Colleagues, I just encountered some unexpected behavior of difftime in relationship to the change from daylight savings to standard time. My understanding is that DST and ST take effect at 2AM. However, the code below suggests that R (version 2.8.0 in OS X) implements the change at 2:16AM: Expected: > > difftime("2008-11-02 02:01:00", "2008-11-02 00:59:00")

unexpected before_filter behavior
Hi there Noticed some unexpected behavior today and wanted to flag it here - I poked around on the internet and didn''t find anything obvious: In Rails 3.0.8 and 3.1.0.rc2 it looks like the "unless lambdas" for before_filters cancelled by redirects (and possibly renders) are still run. I''ve pushed a project demonstrating this to github:
