Fontconfig warning with X11() on MAC OS X 10.4
I posted previously about problems with X11() on my MAC using R 2.8.1 .
After installing the securilty update for Tiger this morning, X11() now
works from an xterm :-)
However, I receive the following warnings with any plotting command using
the default X11 settings.
Fontconfig warning: no <cachedir> elements found. Check configuration.

[fdo] Time to kill the fontconfig wiki?
Looking at http://www.fontconfig.org/wiki/TitleIndex I see it's around
99.9% pure spam. Other than the front page, virtually everything else
is the moin-moin boilerplate or the hundreds of pages of spam. Even the
Recent Changes & Find Page links have been overwritten by spammers hundreds
of times, with the spammers fighting each other to crap on it most recently.

Building R with Cairo
All-
I have been hacking on an R 2.15 build on an Ubuntu 10.4 box, and I do
not know how to debug R's error message regarding cairo "working".
Configuration completes without the expected additional capability (cairo)
R is now configured for x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu

fontconfig-2.1.93 considered more harmful
There is an ongoing thread "fontconfig-2.1.92 considered harmful" on -CURRENT.
Because I have not moved to -CURRENT, I post this to -STABLE.
Since I upgraded to fontconfig-2.1.93 (on Apr 14) a lot of ports start to
complain a lot of "Cannot fork: Resource temporarily unavailable" errors.
What resource ? I inserted top into my ports build script to notice that

wine-20050211 on SuSE 9.2
I am trying to install wine-20050211 on my second system, which runs
SuSE 9.2. After much faffing around I finally managed to download and
install bison, which allowed ./config to complete. A warning at the end
advised me to install xlib-devel or xfree86-devel. Googling around I
found the RPM for XFree86-devel for SuSE 9.1 so I downloaded it and
started to install it. Unfortunately, a

fontconfig and FT_Get_BDF_Property
Hi all,
After upgrading my fontconfig to 2.2.0, fc-cache -vf gives me an error:
/usr/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: /usr/X11R6/lib/libfontconfig.so.1: Undefined
symbol "FT_Get_BDF_Property" when it tries to build the cache for non
bitmapped fonts.
I have:
1. updated my CVS ports tree
2. rebuilt fontconfig, freetype, expat and Xft using portupgrade
(portupgrade -frR )
3. rebuilt my all

[Fwd: Trouble with libgsm on Mac OS X 10.6.2]
I'm far from an expert on the subject matter. Maybe some app that was written for Linux/BSD or whatever is looking at a LD_LIBRARY_PATH on its own and its nothing to do with the OS? I've never tried messing with LD_LIBRARY_PATH on OSX, but its not *supposed* to do anything normally.
The OS Relies on DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH. If you change it, you have to make sure it encompasses every single

Hi all, i have just finished my installation of wine as normal user (see

starcraft.
The installation program works, even with sound and all, exept when i decide
to run the previews. The previews run rine, but whithout sound. When i return

CairoPDF, Fonts, and Windows 7
Hi All:
I have some basic questions about Cairo graphics engine. I'm trying to use the Cairo package to produce PDF output, mainly because I perceive it to be easy to use with a wide variety of fonts.
But right now, I'm stuck trying to figure out what fonts are available to be used with Cairo, specifically the CairoPDF function. I've been able to successfully produce some test PDFs

One possible cause for incorrect symbols in X11() output
There have been spasmodic reports of symbols such as pi and infinity
in plotmath being reproduced incorrectly on the X11 device on some
Linux systems (at least Ubuntu 10 and Fedora 12/13), and we've managed
to track down one cause whilst investigating PR#14355.
Some systems have Wine and hence the Wine symbol font installed.

Plotmath on Fedora 31 broken with with pango >= 1.44 - workarounds?
Dear list
On Fedora 31 the pango library has recently updated to version >= 1.44
and in doing so has switched to using the HarfBuzz library (from
FreeType) and dropped Adobe Type 1 font support. This causes problems
with plotmath as all bar one of the glyphs doesn't render (see
attached PNG image if it makes it through the list filters - if not I
have shared a copy via my google drive:

evince not showing "greek" and "math" in *.pdf plots
HI I?aki,?
That's interesting.?
I may be wrong but I think it's the Symbol font that's got the
substitution bug, not Helvetica.?
? fc-match "Symbol"
StandardSymbolsPS.t1: "Standard Symbols PS" "Regular"
Is what I get, but then in the Evince properties it's telling me that
it's substituting Symbol with "Noto Sans Regular", despite the

can't install gd-devel on centos 7.1

I'm trying to instal gd-devel onto a CentOS 7 host.
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Package: gd-last-devel-2.1.1-2.el7.remi.x86_64 (remi)

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
But when I try to do that I get the error you see above.
