How to rotate the axisnames in a BARPLOT
Hi all,
- how can I do a barplot with rotated axis labels? I've seen the example for
just a plot in the FAQ, but I'll missing the coordinates to plot my text at
the right position beneath the bars.
Is there any (easy?) solution?
- how can I set the y-axis in a barplot to logarithmic scale?
Many thanks in advance!
Best Regards
Tom

Population pyramids
Hi, I hope somebody can help me with this issue: I am doing population pyramids using the barplot command, so in the left side I have male age structure and in the right side the female age structure. To plot the male age structure I put the data in negative numbers. Now, I want to change the sign in the bar plot in such way that I have no-sign numbers, both in left and right side of the graph. I

Producing "Editable" Graphs for PowerPoint
Hello,
(apologies, I'm not entirely sure whether this question is about R or my
limitations with PowerPoint). I've submitted a paper (which has been
accepted) but the journal now require me to submit graphs that are
"editable in PowerPoint". I would be grateful for suggestions as to
how I should do this.
The best route seems to be to copy-and-paste the figures from the

barplot
Hey,
I am trying to create barplot of abundances over time (in days). The period
is over 171 days, so I don't want to have all labels there but only the
first day of the month. I couldn't find anything like this on the forum yet.
Mostrly it's about year to year data.
This is the relevant part of my table:

Disappearing x axis in plot.factor (PR#830)
Hi.
While there is an x-axis set up for:
> plot.factor(factor(1:3))
this axis is not present for
> plot.factor(factor(1:3), col="red")
which actually should just be the same as the first plot and call
barplot(table(.)), shouldn't it? Where did the ticks and labels go?
Note that
> barplot (table(factor(1:3)), col="red")
has the x-axis.

Centering lines on barplot centers.
Hello,
I am trying to port one of my plotting S+ functions to R and I am having
difficulties!!! I am including here only the troublesome code!
I first produce a barplot, saving the positions of the bar's centers.
par(mar = c(6.1, 5.1, 4.1, 4.1), mgp = c(3, 3.0, 0))
ticks.loc <- barplot(sum.of.weights, col = 5, xlab = "", ylab = "",

problem with tick graph
Dear all,
I'm having problems with the tick of my graph. I'mpcombining lines and
barplot.
For my I'm using the function axis combined with the function pretty to have
more efficient tick, but all my tick (for example, 300 as my max tick and -100
as my min tick) are not printed on my graph.
So I would like to have for the left axis the seq from 0 to 100 (with 0 and
100 printed on

barplot(): X-Axis Labels
Hello all. I have a simple barplot with sixteen different segments. When I plot my data, only five or six of the labels are showing in the x-axis. How do go get them all to show? Can I set them at a 45.degree angle? Thank you.

Oceanographic lattice plots?
R 1.8.0 on Windows XP Professional. A huge THANK YOU to the R Team for
this marvelous software.
I am making lattice plots of oceanographic data. The usual layout does not
conform to plotting conventions that marine scientists use when depth is
the independent variable. Under those conventions, plots are made with the
origin at the upper left, depth on the vertical axis (increasing as it

Request: Documentation of formulae
In working through material on p.272 of MASS (4th ed.), I came
across the following model formula:
pet1.lm <- lm(Y ~ No/EP - 1, Petrol)
I was at a loss to understand the use of "/" until I looked in
"An Introduction [!] to R," where I found the explanation.
My request is that more complete material on model formulae be
lifted from "Introduction to R" (or

cex.axis=0.7, las=2) I only get the tickmarks of 0.1 interval that are very
closed placed in the graph.I need to increase the spacing between each
tickmark. Please anyone help out

More on global environment
To follow up on my previous question, suppose a user R session wants to
unload one workspace and load another within an R session. Is the
following the correct sequence?
1. save.image() to save the current workspace as .Rdata in the current
working directory.
2. rm(list=ls()) to remove everything from the workspace.
3. setcwd("xxx") to set the new working directory.

Text position in Traditional Graphics
R 2.4.1 on Windows XP.
Question: In traditional graphics, is it possible to find out
the height of a line of text in units that can be used in
arithmetic and then in calls to text()?
Context: I have written a function that draws a plot and then,
depending on whether some arguments are TRUE or FALSE, draws
various lines of text in the plot. The text lines may be turned
on or off individually

Installing packages into updated R
A minor inconvenience in updating an R installation is remembering which
packages were installed previously. Has anyone written a script to
inspect a previous installation, then get & install the same packages
into the new installation?
