Using plyr::dply more (memory) efficiently?
Hi all, In short: I'm running ddply on an admittedly (somehow) large data.frame (not that large). It runs fine until it finishes and gets to the "collating" part where all subsets of my data.frame have been summarized and they are being reassembled into the final summary data.frame (sorry, don't know the correct plyr terminology). During collation, my R workspace RAM usage goes

ggplot incorrect legend
How do I create a legend with ggplot? I think should be getting the FuelTypeNum in the legend. Plot: http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/file/n4632471/Rplot.jpeg My code is: ggplot(data=tempTable, aes(x=Bands8, y=SubPercent, fill=FuelTypeNum)) + geom_bar(position="stack", stat="identity") + scale_colour_hue('my legend', breaks = levels(tempTable$FuelTypeNum),

reference classes, LAZY_DUPLICATE_OK, and external pointers
We (the lme4 authors) are having a problem with doing a proper deep copy of a reference class object in recent versions of R-devel with the LAZY_DUPLICATE_OK flag in src/main/bind.c enabled. Apologies in advance for any improper terminology. TL;DR Is there an elegant way to force non-lazy/deep copying in our case? Is anyone else using reference classes with a field that is an external pointer?

Need an advise for bayesian estimate
Hi R bayesians, I need an advise how to resolve the two different estimates applying a traditional glm (TG) and a bayes glm (BG), and different results depending on the data formats of response data and the prior specs using bayesglm in R. I'm not familiar with bayes estimate and my colleague asked me to look into this because the EPA from France reported a quite different estimates for

Lattice / Trellis analog of axis(graphics) ?
My question is so basic that I am (almost too) embarrassed to admit that I could not find an answer after an hour's worth of homework. What is the Trellis / Lattice analog for the axis(graphics) function that enables the creation of axes in locations other than the default (i.e., bottom for X axis and right for Y axis) ? For example when plotting mileage against weight (in American

Shell32.IsUserAnAdmin function not found - installation
I am trying to install the fuel demo (fuel-game.com) in an ubuntu 9.04 X86_64 PC. It fails very quickly, saying that the search for the function shell32.IsUserAnAdmin was not found. Using subset to filter data table
I am having difficulty understanding how I would constrain a data set by filtering out 'records' based on certain criteria. Using SQL I could query using 'select * from my.data where LithClass in ('sand', 'clay')' or some such. Using subset, there seem to be ghosts left behind (that is, all of the LithClass *.Labels* remain after subset) > dput(tcc)

sem: negative parameter variances
Dear Spencer and Prof. Fox, Thank you for your replies. I'll very appreciate, if you have any ideas concerning the problem described below. First, I'd like to describe the model in brief. In general I consider a model with three equations. First one is for annual GRP growth - in general it looks like: 1) GRP growth per capita = G(investment, migration, initial GRP per

Debugging segfault in foreach
Hi, I'm using R-2.12 on a linux 64bit machine. When I run a chunk of code inside a foreach() %do% { ...} or %dopar% {...} (with doMC backend) I keep getting a segfault. Running the *same* code within lapply(something, function(x) ... ) doesn't result in any segfaults. I'll paste the output below, but I'm not sure it would be helpful. I'm more curious how to go about smoking
