Scatterplot help
Hi my friends,
I'm trying to make a scatterplot like this.
1) I have a 3-variable dataset. They are ID, x, and y.
2) "x" is for the X-axis, "y" for the Y-axis, and "ID" is used to label all
the cases in the scatterplot.
3) After creating the scatterplot, I need to add both a X-axis reference
line and a Y-axis reference line. The X-axis reference line is a

Receive "unable to load shared object RNetCDF.o" during R INSTALL of RNetCDF
On a Red Hat Linux cluster I am seeing the following after multiple
other packages were successfully installed. The error seems to suggest
that RNetCDF.o was not copied to the appropriate lib folder. The admin
user performing the install has the required privileges to perform the
install. Words of wisdom are greatly appreciated:

Remove attribute from netcdf4 object
Dear all
For a model I need to combine several netCDF files into one (which works fine). For better overview I'd like to delete/remove some of the attributes. Is there a simple way doing this?
I'm using the package netcdf4, which creates an object of class(nc) = "ncdf4". It seems that for earlier versions of netcdf objects, there was the function att.delete.nc{RNetCDF}. But

R+netcdf, resultados de WRF
Saludos estimados usuarios !

catching errors in RNetCDF
Dear R community,
I quite frequently run into errors while using the RNetCDF package which
do not seem to be recognised as normal R errors and, hence, do not stop
the execution of the code making it hard to debug the code.
Consider, for example:
library(RNetCDF)
con <- create.nc('test.nc')
test <- try(var.get.nc(con, 'dummy'))
In this case, some sort of error message

Batch open netcdf files and get variables
Hi, I'm new to R. I have some daily soil moisture data for the year 1979 in netcdf format such as these
sm19790101.1.nc
sm19790102.1.nc

sm19791231.1.nc
I need to average a variable called "sm" to monthly resolution. I've done these
days = formatC(1:31, width=2, flag="0")
ncfiles = lapply(days, function(d){
filename = paste("sm197901", d,

ncdf with opendap/dods support
Aloha,
I just made some quick hacks on the configure script with the 'ncdf'
package to make it link with the opendap/dods libraries (opendap.org)
rather than the netcdf api library. Basically, this allows a user to
interact in R with a remotely served dataset as if it were a netcdf file
on the local filesystem (read-only). Functionality with local files
should continue to work as

memory allocation error message
Dear all
I use the library(netCDF) to read in NCEP data. The file I want to read has size 113 Mb.
When i try to read it I get the following message:
Error: cannot allocate vector of size 221080 Kb
In addition: Warning message:
Reached total allocation of 255Mb: see help(memory.size)
I get a similar message when I try to read a file with 256 Mb in a PC with 2 GigaByte RAM.

OT: any recommendation for scripting language
Right now, I am using SAS and S+/R. As a new year resolution, I am
planning to learn a scripting language.
from statisticians' point of view, which scripting language is worth
to learn, perl, python, or any other recommendation? (Most likely, I
will be learning it in windows.) Since I am not in research, I will
prefer one widely used in industry and related to statistical work.

Exporting objects plotted with plot3d() - rgl package
Dear all,
Can anybody tell me how to export a 3d figure made with the plot3d
function? I'm careless about whether it's still interactive or not in
another format, as long I can get it out of R.
Thanks!

how to rescale the limits of yaxis rather than using the data range by default?
Dear Lister,
plot() is using the data range as the default limits of yaxis. Is
there any way I can change the limits? I just look at the help of
plot() and par() and couldn't find answers.
Thanks.
