disabling automatic indexing in acts_as_ferret
I''d like to be able to enable/disable the automatic indexing of documents acts_as_ferret does. Something like MyModel.disable_indexing MyModel.enable_indexing would be perfect. I need this because I do some indexing that requires visiting the parents of the model objects and my import method imports the children first, so the information isn''t there yet. I''d like to

acts_as_ferret for Ferret 0.10
Hi all, the current acts_as_ferret trunk is now ported to Ferret 0.10. Get it while it''s hot at svn://projects.jkraemer.net/acts_as_ferret/trunk/plugin Nearly everything works, besides this: - all queries are ORed (no way to tell the QueryParser to build AND queries by default) - more_like_this is broken I''m working with Dave to fix these things soon. The last Ferret 0.9.x

Hyphens
Hi there, I''m working with some legacy data where customer phone numbers are stored with hyphens between the area code, exchange, and number (e.g. 555-555-5555). Is this the best way to store a phone number? Perhaps not, but it''s the way they were being stored, so I have to work with this format. Right, so when I save a record the log tells me acts_as_ferret indexed the

acts_as_ferret limit on multi_search not working?
I''m using acts_as_ferret to do a query like this: Model1.multi_search("my query",[Model2,Model3], :limit => 2) No matter what number i set limit to I get 10 items in the resultset. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks/David -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Typo and acts_as_ferret rebuild_index errror
Hi, I''m running the edge Typo and the latest acts_as_ferret plugin and ferret gems (as of 11 April). In my Content model I put acts_as_ferret :fields => [:title, :body] In the console, I call Content.rebuild_index to index all of my existing content. All the directories get created etc, but I get the following error back: Loading development environment. >>

Dynamic fields and inheritance
I have a model that allows subclasses to dynamically define fields. The following code is a short test case that illustrates the problem I''m having: class Product < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_ferret :fields => [:name] serialize :data def self.data_properties (*properties) properties.each do |property| define_method(property) {self.get_property(property)}

acts_as_ferret causing strange behaviour
I posted this issue as a bug on the acts_as_ferret trac (http://projects.jkraemer.net/acts_as_ferret/ticket/36) but need to get this working asap. so hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. To try and sum this up in better terms than I used in the original bug report, the problem I am experiencing seems to be related to the fact I am using inheritance in my controllers. I

Search on data accross many tables, linked by belongs_to
I am using Ferret and acts_as_ferret, as my search back-end for my Rails project. I have a question about using acts_as_ferret on a main table that is linked to other tables by foreign keys. Is there a way to include the information linked by the belongs_to keyword in the search results ? As an example, let''s say I have a main table ''posts'':

Multiple Models w/ acts_as_ferret
I have multiple models all with: acts_as_ferret :fields => [...] (models = profiles, blogs, comments ) When I restart the server and perform any crud operation on one of the above models, the index is created/updated. If I then go and perform any crud operation on ANOTHER model, ...the index from that first model is being updated. Any ideas? Can acts_as_ferret handle this? Thanks

bad interaction of ferret (0.10.5) and mongrel on linux
We have an application that uses Ferret and acts_as_ferret that we just upgraded to Ferret 0.10.5 (from 0.9.5) and the corresponding version of the acts_as_ferret. Everything works as expected on my laptop, which is running mongrel 0.3.13.3. When I deploy the application on our server, which is running some version of Red Hat Linux, I can''t get Ferret to work at all when

Ferret/acts_as_ferret don''t seem to be doing anything
I''m having an odd problem with Ferret 0.9.5 and acts_as_ferret 0.2.3, on RedHat Linux Enterprise 4. All of my find_by_contents calls return 0 results. When I try Foo.rebuild_index via the console, it returns nil. This is happening on my production machine, during deployment of my app. Everything works perfectly on my development machine (Windows). I have no idea where to start

Ferret not returning the right results
I have ferret setup in my model with multiple fields, but when I do a search on the value that might be stored in two fields, I get no results. Here''s an example: "Jim 12333" Where Jim is a name field, and 12333 is a zip code. I have this in my model: acts_as_ferret :fields => [ ''name'', ''zip'' ] I''m not sure
