draw a 5cm x 3cm rectangle
Hi I want to draw sth in a pdf file with a predefined defined size. Say a 5cm x 3cm rectangle (a ruler): pdf("rect.pdf", paper="a4") plot(c(1,5,5,1,1),c(1,1,3,3,1),asp=1,axes="n") dev.off() but how do I fix that one unit is 1cm? Thanks thomas

unicode only works with a second one
I'd like to paste a zodiac sign on a graph, but it only prints it when I add another unicode ( \u3030) to the desired \u2648 - why? See the examplecode (compare the orange with the skyblue): plot(c(-1,1),c(-4,-2),type="n") text(x=0,y=-3.0,labels="\u2648 \u3030",cex=2.3,col="skyblue") text(x=0,y=-3.2,labels="\u2648",cex=2.3,col="orange")

rgl: ellipse3d with axes
Last week I asked about data ellipses with rgl:::ellipse3d() with lines showing the principal axes. (The goal is a visual demonstration of PCA as a rotation of variable space to component space.) I was trying, unsuccessfully, to use princomp() to generate the PCA axes and plot them using segments3d: > > PC <- princomp(trees) > > sdev <- PC$sdev # component standard

drawing a circle using symbols
Dear friends, I was drawing a circle with centrum in (1,-1) and radius 5 to show my girl that the line y=3*x+1 goes through (1,4) and (-2,-5) of the circle, but on Windows XP, R 2.20 the drawing was not good at all, and the known solutions were not shown in the graph. I guess I got it wrong? Is this use not intended ? Best wishes Troels Ring, MD Aalborg, Denmark

internet proxy settings (win)
I cannot access internet through R. My IT-guys told me that I should set the proxy and the port and then everything will be fine. Where can I set them? I use R 2.6.2 under Windows 2000 and these settings are those of the Internet Explorer (no password). I read http://cran.at.r-project.org/bin/windows/base/rw-FAQ.html#The-Internet-download-functions-fail_002e but staring R by "C:\Program

I want to draw a little subplot ("overview") into my detailed plot. pie() with only 180°
I want to plot the results of today's elections in Austria in this typical 180?-piechart (and not 360?). Unfortunantely pie() has just an argument "init.angle" and no "end.angle". Perhaps you know a workaround. Thomas

package to convert coordiantes to timezone
Is there a R-package with a function that returns me the timezone, if I hand over longitude and latitude? I know online services like http://ws.geonames.org/timezone?lat=-38.01&lng=147 and http://www.earthtools.org/webservices.htm#timezone and wodner if this exists for R too. Thanks for helping, thomas

intraday OHLC plot
I want to create a open/high/low/last plot of intraday data. I try to use the function plotOHLC from the tsteries package. I create my own multiple time series and then try to plot it. raw Data Format (file eurusd2.csv): "Date (GMT)" "Open" "High" "Low" "Last" 17-03-2008 00:00:00 1,5764 1,5766 1,5747 1,5750 17-03-2008 00:05:00 1,5749 1,5750 1,5741

[Package car/data.ellipse]: confidence intervals off by factor sqrt(2)??? (PR#2584)
Full_Name: Volker Franz Version: Version 1.6.2 (2003-01-10) OS: Debian Submission from: (NULL) (192.124.28.104) Hi there, it seems to me that data.ellipse of package "car" (Version 1.0-1) produces confidence interval's which are too big. To see this, do: library(car) plot(c(-2,2),c(-2,2),pch=0) data.ellipse(rnorm(10000),rnorm(10000),levels=0.68,plot.points=F) abline(v=+1)

convert lines to inches
Hi, how can I convert the unit "lines" of par("mar") into inches? par("mai") could help, but does not (see code below). I want to plot a curve in a predefined size in pdf (I add some margin space to the plot width&height, everything is in cm): pdf("test.pdf",width=(20+2+4)/2.54,height=(10+3+1)/2.54) plot(10:30,

circular reference lines in splom
Hello everyone, I'm stumped. I'd like to create a scatterplot matrix with circular reference lines. Here is an example in 2d: library(ellipse) set.seed(1) dat <- matrix(rnorm(300), ncol = 3) colnames(dat) <- c("X1", "X2", "X3") dat <- as.data.frame(dat) grps <- factor(rep(letters[1:4], 25)) panel.circ <- function(x, y, ...) { circ1

Correlograms and linear regression

masking functions
Dear all I was writing some code that needed functions from packages 'MASS' and 'CircStats', and I received a warning saying that the function 'eqscplot' in one of the packages was masked by another 'eqscplot' from the other package (in fact 'eqscplot' from 'CircStats' seems a short version of 'eqscplot' from 'MASS'). density ellipses?
Hello, has anybody written a function to plot density ellipses (95%, 99% or anything) in a scatterplot? I found nothing in any package, nor in the list archives. There does seem to be a contributed package "ellipse" for S-Plus (on S-Archive), but it does a lot more than what I would need. Still, if anybody ported it to R, I'd be grateful for a link. I'm a bit afraid to try the
