need help on GAM
Get some question about the function "gam".
Suppose I have a semiparametric model,
Y~x1+x2+s(z1).
Using "gam", how could I get the estimates for the parametric part and
nonparametric part respectively?
And another question: we could find the coefficients for both
parametric term and nonparametric term, what do these coefficients
for the nonparametric term stand for, the

Understanding why a GAM can't have an intercept
Dear List,
I've just tried to specify a GAM without an intercept -- I've got one of
the (rare) cases where it is appropriate for E(y) -> 0 as X ->0.
Naively running a GAM with the "-1" appended to the formula and the
calling "predict.gam", I see that the model isn't behaving as expected.
I don't understand why this would be. Google turns up this old

[gam] [mgcv] Question in integrating a eiker-white "sandwich" VCV estimator into GAM
Dear List,
I'm just teaching myself semi-parametric techniques. Apologies in
advance for the long post.
I've got observational data and a longitudinal, semi-parametric model
that I want to fit in GAM (or potentially something equivalent), and I'm
not sure how to do it. I'm posting this to ask whether it is possible
to do what I want to do using "canned" commands

missing F statistic in anova.gam
Hello,
I have encountered results which I am not sure how to interpret when using anova.gam to compare 2 different models. For certain tests the results do not include an F- or associated p-statistic. This happens when comparing certain models and not others, and I do not discern a patten explaining when the test works and when it does not.
Here is some output for some of my tests (y#, x1, and

endogenous variables in gam (mgcv)
Hello,
I have a question. Suppose that I have a function to estimate with gam (in the mgcv package),
y=s(x1)+s(x2)+XB
where X is a vector of exogenous variables and x1 and x2 are explanatory variables assumed parametric linear functions of X and other exogenous variables Z. Is there a way to evaluate this equation with gam, allowing for endogeneity? If not, is there another

ed50
I am using semiparametric Model
library(mgcv)
sm1=gam(y~x1+s(x2),family=binomial, f)
How should I find out standard error for ed50 for the above model
ED50 =( -sm1$coef[1]-f(x2)) / sm1$coef [2]
f(x2) is estimated value for non parametric term.
Thanks

R
Dear Professor,
I am preparing for a Ph.D in semiparametric regression at Cairo university in Egypt. Referring to R package KernGPLM, I obtained R version 2.4.1 but I did not find package KernGPLM. Please, help me how can I obtain this package. Thanks in advance.

WinBUGS with R
Dear Users,
I am new to both of things, so do not blame me too much...
I am busy with semiparametric regression and use WinBUGS to sample
posteriors.
The code to call Winbugs is as follows:
data <- list("y","X","n","m") #My variables
inits.beta <- rep(0,K)
inits.beta0 <- 0

Simplest OS possible?
What is the simplest OS I can install in Xen, preferably Linux based, and
don''t tell me MS-DOS :). I have installed a minimal version of Fedora, but I
want something that is even less cluttered.
I have looked at Minix, but it is not fully supported. I need something
small, lightweight (doesn''t have to be multi-threaded or anything), that
will run small C and Assembler programs

how to trigger puppet run on agents remotely
Hello Everybody,
I am looking for a way to trigger puppet rum
remotely. so that i don''t need to login into individual nodes and perform
the puppet agent --test from there.
Is there any alternative to puppet kick in puppet 3.0, since its being
deprecated in telly.
Also , can anybody tell how to configure foreman 1 to trigger puppet run
from the gui in puppet

pdIdent in smoothing regression model
Hi there,
I am reading the 2004 paper "Smoothing with mixed model software" in
Journal of Statistical Software, by Ngo and Wand. I tried to run
their first example in Section 2.1 using R but I had some problems.
Here is the code:
library(nlme)
fossil <- read.table("fossil.dat",header=T)
x <- fossil$age
y <- 100000*fossil$strontium.ratio

glmer (lme4), glmmPQL (MASS) and xtmepoisson (Stata)
Dear R users,
I'm trying to specify a generalized linear mixed model in R, basically a Poisson model to describe monthly series of counts in different regions.
My aim is to fit subject-specific curves, modelling a non-linear trend for each region through random effects for linear splines components (see Durban et al, Stat Med 2005, or " Semiparametric regression" by Ruppert et al,

I found (for example) bin/testparms in the PROGS1 Makefile variable but

sum of functions
Dear all,
I would like to create a code for semiparametric Klein and Spady's
estimator. For that I created a function that provides the log-likelihood
function for each observation (so it is a function of betas and i, where i
denotes the observation). Now, in order to maximize the log-likelihood
function, I have to sum these log-likelihood functions for each i and so to
get another function
