easy way to do a 2-D fit to an array of data?
Hi, I've got a matrix, Z, of values representing (as it happens) optical power at each pixel location. Since I know in advance I've got a single, convex peak, I would like to do a 2D parabolic fit of the form Z = poly((x+y),2) where x and y are the x,y coordinates of each pixel (or equivalently, the row, column numbers). Is there an R function that lets me easily implement that?

problem with optim and integrate
Dear all, I want to min "integrate( (p1*dnorm+p2*dnorm+p3*dnorm)^(1.3))" for p, mu, and sigma. So, I have to estimate 8 parameters(p3=1-p1-p2). I got this warning-"Error in integrate(numint, lower = -Inf, upper = Inf) : non-finite function value." My questions are How could I fix it? I tried to divide into several intervals and sum up, but I got same message. My code is

integration error when I use "optim" and "integrate" simultaneously
Dear R users, When I use two functions, 'optim' and 'integrate', simultaneously, I always get an error like this -------------------------------------------------------------------------- numint = function(z) { dlnorm(z,mu[1],sqrt(exp(g[1]))) * dnorm((z-mu[2])/sqrt(exp(g[2])))/sqrt(exp(g[2])) } integrate(numint,lower=0,upper=Inf)$value Error in integrate(numint, lower = 0,

Need help with function writing
Hello: If anyone could guide me with this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanking you in advance for your assistance. Using a 3-level input factor alternative so that a function(below) can compute both a two-sided and one-sided p-values. Making the two-sided test the default. And produce output information about which alternative was tested. Where would I place the ifelse statement?

Incomplete Gamma Functions and GammaDistribution Doc errata.
Hello all, In the course of trying to implement the CDF of an InverseGammaDistribution, I have run across the need for an igamma() function. Several others have needed this function but the answers I have found so far are not totally clear to me. I'm writing for three reasons: 1) to present a small error in the docs 2) to clarify the approach we are expected to take 3) to request, for the

Incomplete Gamma function
Hello I am trying to evaluate an Incomplete gamma function in R. Library Zipfr gives the Igamma function. From Mathematica, I have: "Gamma[a, z] is the incomplete gamma function." In[16]: Gamma[9,11.1] Out[16]: 9000.5 Trying the same in R, I get > Igamma(9,11.1) [1] 31319.5 OR > Igamma(11.1,9) [1] 1300998 I know I have to understand the theory and the math behind it rather

R-beta: problem with locfit

Multivariate regression
Hi, Suppose I have a multivariate response Y (n x k) obtained at a set of predictors X (n x p). I would like to perform a linear regression taking into consideration the covariance structure of Y within each unit - this would be represented by a specified matrix V (k x k), assumed to be the same across units. How do I use "lm" to do this? One approach that I was thinking of

rgl: cylinder3d() with elliptical cross-section
For a paper dealing with generalized ellipsoids, I want to illustrate in 3D an ellipsoid that is unbounded in one dimension, having the shape of an infinite cylinder along, say, z, but whose cross-section in (x,y) is an ellipse, say, given by the 2x2 matrix cov(x,y). I've looked at rgl:::cylinder3d, but don't see any way to make it accomplish this. Does anyone have any ideas? thx,

Lattice 3d coordinate transformation
Hello List! I asked this before (with no solution), but maybe this time... I'm trying to project a surface to the XY under a 3d cloud using lattice. I can project contour lines following the code for fig 13.7 in Deepayan Sarkar's "Lattice, Multivariate Data Visualization with R", but it fails when I try to "color them in" using panel.levelplot. ?utilities.3d says there

Rmetrics 191.10057
It is a pleasure for me to announce the new built for Rmetrics Version 191.0057. The source files and Windows binary packages can be downloaded from www.rmetrics.org . The new built has also been submitted to the CRAN server. Some new functions and example files have been added. Unfortunately the user guides and reference guides are not yet updated, they have still the status of Version

asterisk SIP, SIPAddHeader() and Cisco GED-125
Greetings: I'm in the situation where I'm trying to splash information picked off by an asterisk IVR into a Cisco call center environment. I'm under the impression that the ONLY way to do this is to setup socket connections with the Cisco "voice processor", or CVP, and send packets corresponding to GED-125. Cisco has a detailed 100+-page document detailing the internals of

Hello, Novice programmer. I'm writing C source code and compiling it in as *.dll in the terminal by R CMD SHLIB foo.c. It works, I'm on a 64 bits windows system. I have the lastest R 2.15.0 and Rtools using the gcc 4.6.3 compiler. However, that was a hello world run, and I installed GSL for the 64 bit system for fast MCMC. The Rcpp package was easy to use, but I opted for a C with GSL
