Problems with Package Installation.
I am having difficulty installing packages. For example, here I have tried to
install "gplots" but to no avail. I have tried multiple mirrors and
different packages (errbar) but after installation I seem to be unable to
access any of the commands or help pages. I am a little concerned about the
'lib' missing message but this has been present for previous successful

creating a variable using concatenation
A general problem i run into, i know there must be a simple solution.
I like to create a variable by appending a 1 for example, (i need to
loop later on from 1 to X, thus the reason for this). So i assign the
variable vplot with this value, however it has quotes and when i use it
in a barplot, it throws an error. but the tcenter$X1 does exist, its an
element of a data frame. So if i type

plot region ??
hi,
i am using the barplot function, but i have problems with the plot
region when adjusting the bar width manually. if you only want to plot 2
bars the default barwidth is to wide (aesthetically speaking). by
adjusting width and xlim one can actually produce narrow bars, but then
the plotted graph is not in the center of the plot region, which means
that for example the title of the plot

vertically oriented color key in heatmaps
Hi, I have some data which I was plotting using image(). I wanted to
add a vertical color key to the plot and I found that heatmap.2 in
gplots does let me add a color key. However, I was thinking of a
vertical bar with the color range rather than the style that gplots
provides.
Is there any package (or code snippet) that would let me add a
vertical color key to an image() or heatmap

matrix plot
Hi,
Fairly new to R - have done basic plots but now faced with plotting a
matrix/table of results -I know what I want but cannot find out how to
do it.
Basically have individual questions ( x) to which an organization can
rate themselves 1-10 (y) what I want to show is a matrix/density type
plot (like the matrix corrolation plots I have seen on R graph site)

a question of alphabetical order
Hi all,
In Spanish vowels with accent like ?, ?, ... doesn't affect to the
alphabetical order of vector of strings. I mean, a or ? don't matter for
establishing the alphabetical order.
Nevertheless, while working with R order, here is what I get.

Use of colour in plots
Dear all,
I have 3 datasets all of which share the same longitude and latitude values, which I'm looking to plot onto a scattergraph. The third dataset has values which can only be either '1' or '2'. So to incorporate all three datasets onto two axes, I'm wondering if I can plot dataset1 and dataset2 as normal, but then use colour to determine whether these points are

Matlab import
Dear R-Experts,
here again a question concerning matlab. With the command "matrixM=[1 2

the command "save('matrixM.txt','matrixM')".
Now I tried to import the data in R with the help of the command
"Z=matrix(scan("Z:/Software/R-Programme/matrixM.txt"))"

Matlab Speex library
Hello,
How to decode speex encoded audio in Matlab if Google doesn't find a
library in Matlab that does that? Do you know one? Can anyone tell me if
Matlab can use a Speex implementation in another language? Maybe binaries?
Thanks

Comparison between R and MATLAB
Hi R,
Can I get a comparison between R and MATLAB? How is R efficient than MATLAB? Or what are the weaknesses of R compared to MATLAB?
Thank you very much for your help,

Porting Matlab code to R
Hello,
I'm looking at porting code written for Matlab to R.
However, I don't have sufficient knowledge of Matlab to know whether
it's feasible or appropriate.
If there is anyone who has any experience in this and could provide some
advice, I'd be grateful.
TIA, Peter

R and reading matlab compressed files
Is there any way to read these files (standard .mat files, created by
matlab version 7 onwards are compressed)? I know that R.matlab doesn't
read them (it even says in the file MatlabServer.m "Matlab v7 saves
compressed files, which is not recognized by R.matlab's readMat()" (lines
47-8)).
I know I should be able to make R call Matlab and transfer data (not that

R to MATLAB translation
Hi,
Is there any package out there that might help me with translating R code
into MATLAB? Using RSiteSearch I found a bunch of "MATLAB stuff" but it
all seems to go in the opposite direction, i.e., emulating MATLAB
functions in R.
Thanks in advance,
Andy

Cannot install Matlab 5.3 R11
Hi everybody:
Thanks for reading.
I'm a Linux Debian Lenny user. I'm trying to install Matlab 5.3 R11 through wine-1.0.1-174-gc4039bd. The SETUP.EXE runs correctly.
The problem is when I enter the PLP (Personal License Password) required. I'm sure that the PLP is correct, but "matlab says not". The message is:
"The PLP you have entered is incorrect. Check your PLP

R - MATLAB apply like function
Dear all,
I very often use the R function "apply", for speedup purposes. I am now also using MATLAB, and would like to use the same kind of function.
I have already asked MATLAB people, and the answer is : "vectorize"... but of course, this is not always possible. So, instead of using
a FOR loop all the time, I tried using the bsxfun. So you R people, who might also use MATLAB,
