sorting with booleans
Hi i have a column in my ferret model called sponsored. It is a boolean
and i want to order the results by sponsored and date registered. At the
moment it is not managing to sort the booleans.
I tried declaring this in my model but it seems to have had no effect.
def false.<=>(o) o ? -1 : 0 end
def true.<=>(o) !o ? 1 : 0 end
I''m using the acts_as_ferret plugin.

Get number of found documents
Hi David again.
I would say that Ferret works great with Rails.
And now I am trying to create pagination. Because site could have millions
of documents I need to create on page link something like
"Page #100". Rather usual situation.
But to create this links I need to know how many documents Ferret found in
index.
For now I am doing it with following code

Search Multiple Models
Hello folks,
I have four models, each with their own separate index.
Models = Articles, Blogs, MusicTracks, and MediaFiles
I have individual searches within each section of the site working just
fine, but I want to have a gloabl search that searches across all of
them at the same time and returns the results ordered by score.
Here''s how far I am now...

search speed eclipsed by retrieval speed
Hi all,
I''ve recently started working with Ferret and I''m getting what seems to
be slow searches. I have about 10000 documents in the index, with
several fields per document, with some fields having an array of several
values that are indexed.
I am using a RAMDirectory to store the index for searching. When doing
testing, I find that searches are reasonable at around .2 to

Ferret 0.10.2 - Index#search_each() and :num_docs
Hi,
I seem to be having trouble getting more than 10 hits from
Index#search_each since upgrading to 0.10.2 (ie, this was working in
0.9.4). Maybe a bug, as the #search_each doesn''t seem to use the options
parameter any more ?
Thanks,
Neville

pagination in acts_as_ferret
I''m just wondering where I would put the pagination for search results
when using "acts_as_ferret".
At the moment my search code is..
def search
@query = params[:query] || ''''
unless @query.blank?
@results = Tutorial.find_by_contents @query
end
end

Reverse sorting
I am getting strange results when I reverse sort a query. I am sorting
by date, but it doesn''t seem to be related to dates (I have tried just
integers). I also paginate the results. Items in the result set are
sometimes duplicated and the not ordered at all. When I try a
non-reverse sort I don''t see duplicates and the ordering is correct. Any
ideas what is going on? Thanks

Ferret Locking issues
Dave and all,
I run a medium RoR app using Ferret and acts_as_ferret. I get a lot of
lock errors. Not always but around 5% of all searches (aspecially during
peak periods). Here are the messages I get:
A NameError occurred in szukaj#index:
uninitialized constant Ferret::Index::Index::LockError

multi_search problems, Never go away!
Hello, I am trying to use the multi_search method, but I keep getting
type error on nil objects, I send it [Model1,Model2] and it seems as
though the class names keep getting clobbered and turn to nil, somewhere
along the multi_index area. I tried to trace what was going on, but I
got nothing, also, this only happens when there are actually hits(thank
god, most of the time). Perhaps some insight?

Ferret on Apache Installation
Hi,
had my local linux box setup and ferret was working like a champ via
Webrick.
However, when I moved to a different linux box using Apache web server,
search no worky..giving the error listed below. The site itself comes up
fine.
I''ve tried deleting all the dirs under /index and restarted the
webserver to see if re-indexing would help, but that made matters worse.

adding a custom filter to the query
Hi all,
I''m trying to figure out how to add a filter into a search. I''ve
created the filter, basically copying the location filter from
http://blog.tourb.us/archives/ferret-and-location-based-searches. But
when I try to call Index.search and pass the filter in a hash with the
key :filter, I get back that it is expecting type Data, and so I''m at
a loss to figure out

Linking to the paginated items from search results.
Using Ferret for searching, I''ve got results that I need to link to.
Which is fine, except for that they''re displayed on paginated pages
using Rails paginate function - so it''s not like I can''t get it from the
database or anything else. Anyone have any ideas on how to go about
this? It''s not so much a coding problem as a theory problem, and I

AAF Sorting by date - what am I doing wrong?
I''m trying to sort my search results by Date, in descending order. I''ve
done quite a bit of reading through the forums here, and I''ve tried two
different suggestions.
This just returns results in the same order as a search without a sort:
sort_fields = []
sort_fields <<
Ferret::Search::SortField.new("ferret_created_at",:reverse => :true)

Hi Everyone,
I''ve a RoR application. I am trying to build full text search capability
into it. I installed Ferret. After that I installed the act_as_ferret
plugin. I''ve also put the acts_as_ferret inside the <model>.rb file .
I''m using the find_by_contents to get the search results.
I''m getting the following error. I''ve no clue and I

I''m trying to use the Ferret DRB server to avoid concurrency issues when

How to get the count of matching documents
I''m trying to generate a rails pagination helper for some ferret
search results, and I need to know how many total matches there are to
my search query. I don''t see an obvious way of finding this. Any
help would be appreciated.

Potential memory leak when assigning MSetItem values
I've traced a memory leak to a statement which assigns the values from an
MSetItem to a dictionary which is then appended to a list in python. We're
running python 2.7.3, xapian-core 1.2.15 and xapian-bindings 1.2.15. I've
provided an example which reproduces the behavior below. The example prints
the PID and has a few statements waiting for input to make observing the
behavior easier.
