Sum of Bernoullis with varying probabilities
Hi Folks,
Given a series of n independent Bernoulli trials with
outcomes Yi (i=1...n) and Prob[Yi = 1] = Pi, I want
P = Prob[sum(Yi) = r] (r = 0,1,...,n)
I can certainly find a way to do it:
Let p be the vector c(P1,P2,...,Pn).
The cases r=0 and r=n are trivial (and also are exceptions
for the following routine).
For a given value of r in (1:(n-1)),
library(combinat)
Set <- (1:n)

Cannot install gnome on guest VM?
hello,
I believe I have started guest VM now. Is there any GUI support for guest
VM? I tried to "apt-get install gnome", but it doesnot work. My host OS is
ubuntu 10.10.

Installing packages...
Hi,
I am a total newbie to R. I am using R (2.4.1) on Mac OS X 10.4.8 and
trying to install some packages using GUI Packages & Data/Package Installer
interface...
Every time I get:

bug? in making security/isakmpd
Hi!
There is a little problem in the security/isakmpd port. There are some
gen*.sh scripts in it, which generate some C header (and src) files.
These scripts are using awk, tr, etc - some generic UNIX tools. One of
the tools has problems with some localisations, so these scripts
generate incorrect C-code. Eg, I have Hungarian localisation set, so I
have the following in my environ:

Changes to OpenSSH for NetWare
I have attached a diff file with the changes to existing OpenSSH source

USE_EDIR - Using eDirectory(TM) for authentication.
NICI - Using Novell International Cryptography Infrastructure

SUGGESTION: Proposal to mitigate problem with stray processes left behind by parallel::makeCluster()
The problem causing the stray worker processes when the master fails to
open a server socket to listen to connections from workers is not
related to timeout in socketConnection(), because socketConnection()
will fail right away. It is caused by a bug in checking the setup
timeout (PR 17391).
Fixed in 76275.

[PATCH v1] armv7: celt_pitch_xcorr: Introduce ARM neon intrinsics
Optimize celt_pitch_xcorr function (for floating point)
using ARM NEON intrinsics for SoCs that have NEON VFP unit.
To enable this optimization, use --enable-intrinsics
configure option.
Compile time and runtime checks are also supported to make sure
this optimization is only enabled when the compiler supports
neon intrinsics.

[RFC V3 5/8] aarch64: celt_pitch_xcorr: Fixed point intrinsics
Optimize celt_pitch_xcorr function (for fixed point).
Even though same code in theory should work for ARMv7
as well, turning this on only for aarch64 at the moment since
there is a fixed point asm implementation for ARMv7 neon.

I'm using a fresh install of Fedora Core 5 with the RPM install of Wine

When I run winecfg, it says "wine: creating configuration directory

"Font metrics" progress with a few "fixme:font" messages.
Nothing seems too unusual. But, when it gets to "Font metrics:

NT MD4 password check failed
I'm sorry for asking a question which has been asked so many times
before, but I can't seem to find the answer...
How do I get to access my home directory on a Linux server running
Samba from a Windows XP client?
I'm getting "NT MD4 password check failed" in the log file even though
the Windows client is listed in hosts.equiv. More information
below...
I have a small home

R looping help
Hey I'm not really sure what I should put on here, but I am having trouble
with my R code. I am trying to get the p-values, R^2s etc for a number of
different groups of variables that are all in one dataset.
This is the code:
#Stand counter
st<-1
#Collections
stands<-numeric(67)
slopes<-numeric(67)
intercepts<-numeric(67)
mses<-numeric(67)
rsquares<-numeric(67)

Are there any R packages that can deduce causal relationship between variables?
Hi netters.
Assume Y = {Y1,.....Yn} and X = {X1......Xm}, where Yi and Xi are random
variables that can take on discrete values from V={0,1,2}.
Each Yi in Y has some (0-k) parent variables in X, which means given the
values of the parent variables (Xi0....Xik) the values of Yi is set. Yi =
F(Xi0,...Xik), where F is a mapping function from parents to sons.

deSolve - Function daspk on DAE system - Error (Vince)
Vince,
When that happens, one possible reason is that your DAE is of index > 1,
which cannot be solved by daspk.
The solver radau, also from deSolve can handle DAEs up to index 3, but
you need to rewrite the problem in the form M*y' = f(x,y), where M is a
mass matrix.
If you do that for your problem, and solve it with radau, then radau
complains that the "matrix is repeatedly

need help EM algorithm to find MLE of coeff in mixed effects model
Dear All,
have a general question about coefficients estimation of the mixed model.
I simulated a very basic model: Y|b=X*\beta+Z*b +\sigma^2* diag(ni);
b follows
N(0,\psi) #i.e. bivariate normal
where b is the latent variable, Z and X are ni*2 design matrices, sigma is
the error variance,
Y are longitudinal data, i.e. there are ni

Not sure what you mean here. If your compiler supports C99 VLAs, then by
all means just define VAR_ARRAYS and you're good to go. If not, the
second best option is alloca(),
