question about xtable and Hmisc
I would like to get rid of the row numbers using xtable and latex.
The commands
d = cbind(1:10,rep(1:2,5))
ans = xtable(d)
latex(ans)
gives output containing

paste in xtable
Dear R help:
I am trying to use paste(), within an ifelse() statement to insert latex
commands into an object that has been created using xtable(). I cannot
make the strings behave as I would like, the '\t' is creating a tab, the
usual method of '\\t' is not working either - nor is any series of
backslashes. The xtable object, I think, automatically alters the
strings. How

Sweave & xtable
I am just starting to learn Sweave (really neat tool). I am pretty
early in the learning curve (I had to think a moment ago whether a # or
% was the appropriate comment character).
I have successfully incorporated simple graphics and outputs, but am
having trouble getting a latex (xtable) table to function properly.
Latex is seemingly treating the xtable code as input or verbatim text.

Problem using xtable on an array
Hi all
I know about producing a minimal example to show my problem. But I'm
having trouble producing a minimal example that displays this
behaviour, so please bear with me to begin with.
Observe: I create an array called model.mat. Some details on this:

Exporting Contingency Tables with xtable
Dear R-philes:
I am having an issue with exporting contingency tables with xtable().
I set up a contingency and convert it to a matrix for passing to
xtable() as shown below.
v.cont.table <- table(v_lda$class, grps,
dnn=c("predicted", "observed"))
v.cont.mat <- as.matrix(v.cont.table)
Both produce output as follows:

Problem setting the number of digits in xtable
DEar list members,
I am currently using Sweave with LaTeX which is great.
I can use xtable for formatting outp of tables but I have a problem setting the number of decimals in xtables when used with dataframe.
I have found an example on the net ith matrix and it works.
For example this works :
> > tmp <- matrix(rnorm(9), 3, 3)
> > xtmp <- xtable(tmp)
> > digits(xtmp)

Reading expressions from character vectors
Greetings,
I have a problem that I am sure is very straightforward, but I just
can't wrap my head around it. I've read the help pages on text,
plotmath, expression, substitute, but somehow I can't find the answer
to this simple question.
Basically consider the following example:

Indexing, and using an empty string as a name
Hello all,
I ran into the following, to me unexpected, behavior. I have (for
reasons that don't necessarily pertain to the question at hand, hence
I won't go into them) the need/desire to use an empty string for the
name of a vector entry. Perhaps I did not read ?"[" very carefully,
but it seems to me that he following lines should return "1" at the end:

Cross-tabulations next to each other
I have the following relatively simple problem. Say we have three
factors, and we want to create a cross-tabulation against each of the
other two:
x <- factor(rbinom(5, 1, 1/2))

Controlling size of boxplot when it is added in a plot
Greetings,
I am trying to add a boxplot to the bottom of a histogram, right
between the histogram bars and the x axis. Here is the code I am
using at the moment (the par line is probably not relevant for our

Calling plot with a formula, from within a function, using ..., and xlim
I ran into a weird, to me at least, problem, and hoping someone can
shed some light into it. In a nutshell, there seems to be some
problem when one calls plot with a formula, from within another
function, using ... to pass arguments, and one of those arguments
being xlim (and only xlim shows this problem). Here is an example:

Understanding eval
After many hours of debugging code, I came to the conclusion that I
have a fundamental misunderstanding regarding eval, and hope that
someone here can explain to me, why the following code acts as it does:

Rcmdr Plugin and menus.txt
Hi all,
I'm trying to write a plugin for R Commander, following the model of
the TeachingDemos plugin. I am struggling trying to even add items by
editing the menus.txt file. I would welcome any help from anyone who
has messed with it. Essentially the problem I am having is: I cannot
create a submenu to a newly created menu. Here is what the menus.txt
file looks like:

latex tables for 3+ dimensional tables/arrays
I'm looking for an R method to produce latex versions of tables for
table/array objects of 3 or more dimensions,
which, of necessity is flattened to a 2D display, for example with
ftable(), or vcd::structable, as shown below.
I'd be happy to settle for a flexible solution for the 3D case.

xtable - print - suppress output
hi,
I use xtable to convert data.frames to html tables.
But when I use the print-command I always get the whole output printed
even if I just want to save the html table into a variable;
table <- print(xtable(CERAT), type="html")
How can I suppress that output is printed?

vertex labels in igraph from adjacency matrix
I am getting some unexpected results from some functions of igraph and
it is possible that I am misinterpreting the vertex numbers. Eg., the
max betweenness measure seems to be from a vertex that is not connected
to a single other vertex. Below if my code snippet:

Using package "exams" and xtable

I am trying to use the package "exams" to construct problem sets.
I have constructed an exercise which generates a list of integers and asks
the student to compute the median.
rx is the vector of n numbers
