Stratified bootstrap question
Dear experts,
I am asking for help with a question regarding to stratified bootstrap.
My dataset is a longitudinal dataset (3 measurements per person at year
1, 4 and 7) composed of multiple clinic centers and multiple participants
within each clinic. It has missing values.
I want to do a bootstrap to find the standard errors and confidence
intervals for my variance components. My model is a

Using sample() to sample one value from a single value?
Hi, consider this one as an FYI, or a seed for further discussion.
I am aware that many traps on sample() have been reported over the
years. I know that these are also documents in help("sample"). Still
I got bitten by this while writing
sample(units, size=length(units));
where 'units' is an index (positive integer) vector. It works in all
cases as expected (=I expect)

Bootstrap and Jackknife Bias using Survey Package
Dear R users,
I?m student of Master in Statistic and Data analysis, in New University of Lisbon. And now i?m writting my dissertation in variance estimation. So i?m using Survey Package to compute the principal estimators and theirs variances.
My data is from Incoming and Expendire Survey. This is stratified Multi-stage Survey care out by National Statistic Institute of Mozambique. My domain of

Complex sample variances
Hello,
Is there a way to get complex sample variances in the survey package on summary statistics other than means? If not, can they be added to a future version? It would be be great to have them on totals, quantiles, ratios, and tables (eg row percent, columns percent, etc).
Thanks.

medians in Wilcoxon disagree with median function
I am sure I am opening myself up to looking stupid, but I have two samples
with medians of 613.5 and 189 (difference in location of 424 compared to
the difference suggested from the wilcoxon of 291.5)

Question on approximations of full logistic regression model
Hi,
I am trying to construct a logistic regression model from my data (104
patients and 25 events). I build a full model consisting of five
predictors with the use of penalization by rms package (lrm, pentrace
etc) because of events per variable issue. Then, I tried to approximate
the full model by step-down technique predicting L from all of the
componet variables using ordinary least squares

sample(c(0, 1)...) vs. rbinom
Greetings.? My wife is teaching an introductory stat class at UC Davis.? The
class emphasizes the use of simulations, rather than mathematics, to get
insight into statistics, and R is the mandated tool.?? A student in the class
recently inquired about different approaches to sampling from a binomial
distribution.? I've appended some code that exhibits the idea, the gist of
which is that using

How to do bootstrap for the complex sample design?
Hello;
Our survey is structured as : To be investigated area is divided into 6 regions,
within each region, one urban community and one rural community are randomly selected,
then samples are randomly drawn from each selected uran and rural community.
The problems is that in urban/rural stratum, we only have one sample.
In this case, how to do bootstrap?
Any comments or hints are greatly

basehaz and newdata
I am unable to get the basehaz function to apply a proportional
hazards model to a new data frame. I replicated my specific situation
with the example for coxph in the help, where I changed the x value of
the first record from 0 to 1. Is there something incorrect in the
syntax that I am using? Thanks in advance!

bootstrapping vectors of unequal length
Dear R Help List,
I have a vector of n and a vector of n-1 and I want to use boot() to
bootstrap the ratio of their respective medians. I want to eventually
use boot.ci() to generate confidence intervals. Because the vectors
are not equal in length, I tried a few things, but have yet to be
successful.
Try 1:
> x <- runif(20)
>
> y <- c(runif(19), NA)
>
> median(x)

Nomogram with stratified cph in Design package
Hello,
I am using Dr. Harrell's design package to make a nomogram. I was able to
make a beautiful one without stratifying, however, I will need to stratify
to meet PH assumptions. This is where I go wrong, but I'm not sure where.

Coefficients of Logistic Regression from bootstrap - how to get them?
Hello all,
I am trying to optimize my logistic regression model by using bootstrap.
I was previously using SAS for this kind of tasks, but I am now
switching to R.
My data frame consists of 5 columns and has 109 rows. Each row is a
single record composed of the following values: Subject_name, numeric1,
numeric2, numeric3 and outcome (yes or no). All three numerics are used
to predict

How to get prediction for a variable in WinBUGS?
Dear all,I am a new user of WinBUGS and need your help. After running the following code, I got parameters of beta0 through beta4 (stats, density), but I don't know how to get the prediction of the last value of h, the variable I set to NA and want to model it using the following code.Does anyone can given me a hint? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.Best

x and y lengths differ
I have a problem with R. I try to compute the confidence interval for my
df. When I want to create the plot I have this problem: Error in
xy.coords(x, y, xlabel, ylabel, log) : 'x' and 'y' lengths differ.
I try this code:
library(dplR)
df.rwi <- detrend(rwl = df, method = "Spline",nyrs=NULL)
write.table(df.rwi,file="rwi.txt",quote=FALSE,row.names=TRUE)

kruskalmc, significant differences while median values are the same
Dear list!
I work with multiple Kruskal-Wallis test (kruskalmc, package pgirmess), which evaluates differences in medians among groups (5 groups). A result of a test is significant differences among some groups, while median values are the same for 4 groups (using tapply). Why?
p.s.: number of samples in groups vary from 50 to 4900.
Thanks to all, OV

sort of OT: bootstrap tutorial
There is now a tutorial on bootstrapping and other resampling
methods at:
http://www.burns-stat.com/pages/Tutor/bootstrap_resampling.html
Corrections and other suggestions are welcome.
The project started because a novice asked me about bootstrapping.
My response was, "How dare you bug me while I'm playing with my
cats, just google for it." My correspondent was not very impressed
