using xval in mvpart to specify cross validation groups

I'm trying to use specific rather than random cross-validation groups
in mvpart.
The man page says:
xval Number of cross-validations or vector defining cross-validation groups.
And I found this reply to the list by Terry Therneau from 2006
The rpart function allows one to give the cross-validation groups explicitly.
So if the number of observations was 10, you could use

Delete rpart/mvpart cross-validation output
Dear all,
I was wondering if there is a simple way to avoid printing the multiple
cross-validation automatic output to the console of recursive partitionning
functions like rpart or mvpart. For example...

Multiple Reponse CART Analysis
Dear R friends-
I'm attempting to generate a regression tree with one gradient predictor and multiple responses, trying to test if change in size (turtle.data$Clength) acts as a single predictor of ten multiple diet taxa abundances (prey.data) Neither rpart or mvpart seem to allow me to do multiple responses. (Or if they can, I'm not using the functions properly.)

mvpart analyses with covariables
Hi all,
I am fairly new to R and I am trying to run mvpart and create a MRT using
explanatory variables and covariables. I've been following the procedures in
Numerical Ecoogy with R.
The command (no covariables) which works fine -

Error in mvpart example
Dear all,
I'm getting an error in one of the stock examples in the 'mvpart' package. I tried:
require(mvpart)
data(spider)
fit3 <- rpart(gdist(spider[,1:12],meth="bray",full=TRUE,sq=TRUE)~water+twigs+reft+herbs+moss+sand,spider,method="dist") #directly from ?rpart
summary(fit3)
...which returned the following:

cross-validation in rpart
I am trying to find out what type of sampling scheme is used to select the 10
subsets in 10-fold cross-validation process used in rpart to choose the best
tree. Is it simple random sampling? Is there any documentation available on
this?

barplot and pca plot in mvpart/rpart

rpart - the xval argument in rpart.control and in xpred.rpart

change color scheme in mvpart
Hello everyone, I am currently using the mvpart package and would like to change the color scheme it uses, and was hoping someone could help me out. All of the papers I have found have used a grayscale but I can't seem to figure out how they did that! Currently, mvpart plots barplots in a repeating sequence of 3 shades of blue. So if you have 6 response variables the same shade of blue is used

controlling for number of elements in each node of the tree in mvpart
Still about the mvpart.
Is there any way I can control for the number of elements in each node
in the function mvpart? Specifically, how can I ask partition to
ignore node with elements less than 10?

INDVAL and mvpart
Hi,
I'd like to perform Dufrene-Legendre Indicator Species Analysis for
a multivariate regression tree. However I have problems with arguments
of duleg(veg,class,numitr=1000)function. How to obtain a vector of
numeric class memberships for samples, or a classification object
returned from mvpart?

Question on cross-validation in rpart
Hi R folks,
I am using R version 2.2.1 for Unix. I am exploring the rpart function,
in particular the rpart.control parameter. I have tried using different
values for xval (0, 1, 10, 20) leaving other parameters constant but I
receive the same tree after each run. Is the10 fold cross-validation
default still running every time? I would expect the trees to change at
least a little when I

My First Function: cryptic error message
Dear List,
My first R function is a rip-off bagging algorithm from pg. 138 of
Everitt and Hothorn's "Handbook of Statistical Analyses using R"
(HSAUR). I'm using recursive partitioning to develop a set of useful
variables in diagnosing ADHD.
I'm running this in ESS in XEmacs 21.4.19, R 2.4.1 on Slackware Linux
11.0 with a 2.6 kernel.

Some questions on Rpart algorithm
Hello:
I am using rpart and would like more background on how the splits are made
and how to interpret results - also how to properly use text(.rpart). I have
looked through Venables and Ripley and through the rpart help and still have
some questions. If there is a source (say, Breiman et al) on decision trees

anyway to force rpart() to include a specific predictor
If I understand correctly, rpart() will pick predictor at each node
automatically. I am wondering if there is a way to force rpart()
including a specific predictor. The reason I am asking is that I'd
like to use rpart() to detect interaction terms for some variables.
