Colored Dendrogram
Hi all,
I am a real novice to R. :)
I am struggling with a problem for generating colored dendrogram. I have
searched the R list and complied/collected a R code which can generated a
colored dendrogram based on the rainbow color and 4x4 similarity matrix (say
matrix:m).
In this dendrogram, each leaf is colored differently. But, I do not want the
leaf colored on a random basis. I want to assign

Extracting S code from a C program
There is a C program called GPS: 'gamma poisson shrinker' at
ftp://ftp.research.att.com/dist/gps/
The algorithms in GPS are based on S-Plus programs written by William
DuMouchel with support from Columbia University and AT&T Labs.
My question is: is there a relatively easy way to extract some of the S code
from this windows program? Thanks.

Wu-ftpd FTP server contains remotely exploitable off-by-one bug
Hello,
I see in BugTraq that there's yet another problem with Wu-ftpd, but I see
no mention of it in the freebsd-security mailing list archives...I have
searched the indexes from all of June and July.
Wu is pretty widely used, so I'm surprised that nobody seems to have
mentioned this problem in this forum.
The notice on BugTraq mentioned only Linux, not FreeBSD, but that's no

driving R from Python (calldll?)
Sam Rushing's Python extension 'calldll' will supposedly give me access
to any DLL,
and presumably R.DLL in particular, from Python. I have no experience
manipulating DLLs as
yet. I am learning Python. I can't find any simple step-by-step
instructions on how
to get done what I want to do. Does anyone have experience with this?
Is there a
better way? Of course, one can use

are 588 sample frames subset or nonsubset?
Hi
I am thinking of ripping albums to a single flac file with embedded
cuesheet. As track and index points have to be on a 588 sample boundary due
to the CD TOC standard working in 588 sample frames, I thought it may be
beneficial to rip CDs with a blocksize of 588 samples.
According to the format page on sourcefourge a stream is subset if
"The blocksize bits in the frame header must be

Hierarchical Bayesian Modeling in R
Hi Friends,
I'm trying to model the consumer decisions (Click-Through Rate and
Conversion) in Search Engine Advertising using a hierarchical Bayesian
binary logit. The input data is the weekly CTRs and Avg. Position for each
search keyword.
CTR is modeled as (for each keyword i and week j):
Pij = exp(C + Bi x Positionij + A1 x Lengthi + A2 x Brandi + A3 x
ProductSpecifici) / [1 + exp(C +

UID syncing issues with CTDB
I have been working on a CTDB cluster on and off for a while now. I had it
working great for a while. THen I decide dthat I wanted to change the
configuration of my replicated volumes. I changed my DRBD configuration to
match my desired configuration. Now I can get the CTDB to work quite right.
I am able to join the cluster to the domain without issues. I can also list

maps. display hierararchical cluster analysis results on a map?
All,
I have done a cluster analysis analysis of some spatial locations,
based on variables other than lat-long, and want to show the results
on a map to see if my clusters have some geographic meaning.
For kmeans (etc.) I would just use different symbols (etc.)
to distinguish the clusters, but I am doing hierarchical CA. I am looking
for ideas or (better) code.

Script auto-detecting its own path
Hi all,
Forgive me if this question has been addressed, but I was unable to find anything in the r-help list or in cyberspace. My question is this: is there a function, or set of functions, that will enable a script to detect its own path? I have tried file.path() but that was not what I was looking for. It would be nice to be able to put all the related scripts I use in the same folder with a

Implementation of quasi-bayesian maximum likelihood estimation for normal mixtures
Hi,
as you can see in the topic, I am trying to fit a normal mixture
distribution with the approach suggested by Hamilton (1991). Since I
couldn't find any existing packages including the quasi-bayesian mle, I
have to write my own function. Unfortunately, I have absolutely no
experience in doing this.
If you're not familiar with the QB-MLE, I attached the formula as pdf.
The idea

How to use Rattle for Data mining through R?
Dear Mr. Bengtsson,
Now i am able to work with R-Matlab interface comfortably. Thanks to you. Recently, I came to know that R can be used for data mining as well. I went through the following site for this :
http://rattle.togaware.com/
As they have suggested, I have also installed the two packages:
> install.packages("RGtk2")
> install.packages("rattle")

hblm program: porting from Splus to R
I am replying to the email below my signature;
it is nominally about dmp files, but apparently
specific to problems with Bill DuMouchel's
hblm program.
I have been using this program
on Splus for years, and ran into some of the
same problems Jack did in trying to get it into
R. I talked with Bill about it, and he didn't
know that there would be any problems; he
assumed that R was

monitor a simulation with a special console box?
I like to monitor simulation by reporting some current values to the
console, every 25th iteration say. I think it might be nice to have
that appear in a separate window. Anyone know how?
