Segfault: .Call and classes with logical slots
Hi,
the following example aiming at a class containing a logical slot
segfaults under R-1.9.0 when `gctorture(on = TRUE)' is used:
Code code (dummy.c):
#include <Rdefines.h>
SEXP foo() {
SEXP ans;
PROTECT(ans = NEW_OBJECT(MAKE_CLASS("test")));
SET_SLOT(ans, install("lgl"), allocVector(LGLSXP, 1));

I just realized that in the call to `csimint' the argument `asympt=TRUE'
is missing since we need to compute the confidence intervals for a glm
based on the normal approximation.

How many R packages are not free?
Hello Everyone,
Just finished reading A Handbook of Statistical Analyses using R by Everitt and Hothorn. I'll begin by saying that I quite liked the book. It's both little and mighty in the sense that it's very compact but contains a tremendous amount of useful material.
The last chapter of the book deals with cluster analysis. There's a package used in this chapter (I believe

edf's higher than 1
Simon, in your recent reply to me, you noted that EDF=1 corresponds to a
straight line fit. Does the edf always indicate the polynomial exponent
directly? We ask because Hothorn and Everitt said "Roughly, the
complexity of a cubic spline is about the same as a polynomial of degree
one less than the degrees of freedom." Sorry we attributed the latter to
you, by the way. Will

Rpart and bagging - how is it done?
Hi there.
I was wondering if somebody knows how to perform a bagging procedure on a
classification tree without running the classifier with weights.
Let me first explain why I need this and then give some details of what I
have found out so far.
I am thinking about implementing the bagging procedure in Matlab. Matlab
has a simple classification tree function (in their Statistics toolbox) but

New Package: ipred - Improved predictors
The package ipred is uploaded to CRAN.
The main focus of the package is the calculation of improved predictors
in classification tasks. Misclassification error can be improved by
bootstrap aggregated classification trees and/or
the framework of indirect classification. Furthermore, a unified
interface for the estimation of misclassification error
completes the features of ipred.
