ggplot2 and tikzDevice : problems with accents
Hi all,
I can't fathom why the accented "?" in the following ggplot2 graph makes

vectorising ifelse()
Hi All,
is there any chance of vectorising the two ifelse() statements in the
following code:
for(i in gp){
new[i,1] = ifelse(srow[i]>0, new[srow[i],zippo[i]], sample(1:100, 1,
prob =Y1, rep = T))
new[i,2] = ifelse(drow[i]>0, new[drow[i]>0,zappo[i]], sample(1:100,
1, prob =Y1, rep = T))
}

creating a ps. file
Dear all
I wrote a routine. At the end of each cycle of the loop I would like to
save the result (plot) in a postcriptfile.
Of course if I just use dev.print in the following way:
dev.print(device=postcript, 'c:/Rfigures/plot_1.ps")
I overwrite my results with the second cycle of the loop. I suppose
there is a way to define the file name so that several plots are

binding vectors or matrix using their names
Hello list,
I have two vectors x and x2:
x=runif(10)
x2=runif(10)
and one vectors with their names :
my.names=c("x","x2")
I would like to cbind these two vectors using their names contained in the
vector my.names.
I can create a string with comma
ncomma=paste(my.names,collapse=",")
and now, I just need a function to transform this string into a adequate

Dear Mike,
Unfortunately, I did not succeed to have it work.

F tests for random effect models
Dear R-users,
My question is how to get right F tests for random effects in random effect models (I hope this
question has not been answered too many times yet - I didn't find an answer in rhelp archives).
My data are in mca2 (enc.) :
names(mca2)
[1] "Lignee" "Pollinisateur" "Rendement"

Random effect models
Dear R-users,
Sorry for reposting. I put it in another way :
I want to test random effects in this random effect model :
Rendement ~ Pollinisateur (random) + Lignee (random) + Pollinisateur:Lignee (random)
Of course :
summary(aov(Rendement ~ Pollinisateur * Lignee, data = mca2))
gives wrong tests for random effects.
But :
summary(aov1 <- aov(Rendement ~ Error(Pollinisateur * Lignee), data =

Standard deviation from MANOVA??
Hi,
I have problem getting the standard deviation from the manova output.
I have used the manova function: myfit <- manova(cbind(y1, y2) ~ x1
+ x2 + x3, data=mydata) .
I tried to get the predicted values and their standard deviation by using:
predict(myfit, type="response", se.fit=TRUE)
But the problem is that I don't get the standard deviation values, I only

Increase size of ext3 filesystem WHILE MOUNTED
Hi,
We will have to go and use SuSE (30 servers) just because ext3
filesystem cannot be increase while the filesystem is mounted.
I Don't understand why RedHat do not support filesystems that can do
thing that ext3 cannot do.
When is RedHat going to understand that in a production environnement
(30 servers that is seems will be SuSE) we need extend filesystem online.

OpenSSH heads-up
OK, an official OpenSSH advisory was released, see here:
<URL: http://www.mindrot.org/pipermail/openssh-unix-announce/2003-September/000063.html >
The fix is currently in FreeBSD -CURRENT and -STABLE. It will be
applied to the security branches as well today. Attached are patches:

My former E-Mail is no longer accessible to me, hence I can't receive your messages.
Can you change my address from jacques.menu at unige.ch to jacques.menu at tvtmail.ch, or unsubscribe for me directly?

Enlarge ext3 Logical Volume (Filesystem) in a volume group (LVM)
Anybody know a way to enlarge a filesystem ext3 without having to unmounted it, when they are still space left in the volume group (when using LVM) ?
I will be running large production linux system running Oracle.
I can't stop the database everytime I have to enlarge a filesystem.
We can do it with all others filesystems (JFS, REISERSFS and XFS) when they are created in a volume group. Why

Difference between two correlation matrices
Hi
Now a more theoretical question. I have two correlation matrices - one
of a set of variables under a particular condition, the other of the
same set of variables under a different condition. Is there a
statistical test I can use to see if these correlation matrices are
"different"?
Thanks

Still avoiding loops
Dear all,
I have a matrix X with 47 lines and say 500 columns - values are in {0,1}.
I'd like to compare lines.
For that, I first did:
for (i in 1:(dim(X)[1]-1))
for (j in (i+1):dim(X)[1]) {
Y <- X[i,]+Y[j,]
etc.
but, since it takes a long time, I would prefer avoding loops;
for that, my first idea was to add this matrix:
X1=X[,rep(1:46,46:1)]
to this one:
res=NULL
for (i in

Multiple operations on list
Hello,
suppose I have a list with matrices:
a=list(x1=matrix(rnorm(10),5,2),x2=matrix(rnorm(10),5,2),x3=matrix(rnorm(10),5,2))
I want to compute for all combination of xi and xj (x1,x2 x1,x3 and x2,x3)
a value.
This value is given for the pair x1,x2 by trace(x1%*%t(x1)%*%x2%*%t(x2)) /
trace(x1%*%t(x1))*trace(x2%*%t(x2))
I know that product matrices t(xi)%*%xi can be obtained by:

writing polygons/segments to shapefiles (.shp) or other ArCGIS compatible file
I am not sure a previous e-mail reached the list (no mail aknowledgement from R-boundle etc.). The question was how to write polygon
or segment coordinates into a shapefile set or any other ArcGIS supported format. The library shapefiles seems to do something but
the documentation is a bit beyond of my mind.... and I cannot get the meaning of the functions write**** and its application to the

Attempting to get BLF working with linphone
So I've got a bit further with my project to get BLF working between
asterisk and linphone.
Initially asterisk was rejecting linphone's SUBSCRIBE messages because
they didn't have an Accept: header. I've fixed that and now the initial
SUBSCRIBE messages work and I see all my online contacts in green.
But after a few minutes linphone attempts to renew the subscriptions and
