mongrel error on debian sarge
Hi, I cannot get mongrel working on i686 debian sarge, whereas it works quite well on another ppc box under debian unstable. Instead I can use scgi_rails or webbrick without any problem. Here is the error: # mongrel_rails start /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/mongrel-0.3.12.4/lib/mongrel/rails.rb:28: uninitialized constant Mongrel::HttpHandler (NameError) from

rmagick->X11 on MacTel Howto?
I needed to install rmagick/GraphicsMagick on an IntelMac and did so from Darwinports. Some things work and others don''t work, like rendering fonts which needs X11 fonts and X server. The rmagick page at rubyforge points to .. http://developer.apple.com/opensource/tools/runningx11.html where X11 link to Apple is broken. X11User.pkg talked about on the page above no longer exists at

RadRails 0.6 out
Since RadRails 0.6 is out (see http://www.radrails.org/ ), I have made a "celebratory illustrated tutorial" on how to use the Eclipse update function to do the upgrade from within Eclipse (I found the process a tad confusing): http://wiki.awebfactory.com.ar/awebfactory/published/UpdateRadRails saludos, Victor Kane awebfactory.com.ar -------------- next part -------------- An HTML

Can only render or redirect once per action - why?
I ran into this error message a quite a few times since my app requires branching to different pages from the same action... say using a switch statement. Ofcourse I found that you can use multiple redirects or renders if you do render :action => ''new'' and return false I hate to code something I don''t understand fully. Any explanation of this will be greatly

fastthread-0.6.4.1 released
== NOW A new version of fastthread, the library providing better implementations of the classes in thread.rb, has been released. Please note that fastthread is only for Ruby 1.8, not JRuby or any other Ruby implementation (most of them don''t need it anyway!). == WHY The existing implementation of Mutex, Queue, etc. in thread.rb is slow. fastthread''s is faster (and bypasses

fastthread 0.6.2
It looks like I got too creative in 0.6.1 and consequently ran afoul of a bug in the Ruby interpreter. 0.6.2 works around the bug and should be entirely stable at this point. Thanks to Young Hyun for his help in coming up with test cases. == what? fastthread is a Ruby library which provides a faster (and non-memory-leaking) C implementation of the concurrency primitives from stdlib''s

Fastthread memory leak?
Hi All, I have an app making extensive use of Mutex and was concerned about the memory leak I have read about. I saw some sample code to reproduce the problem here: http://pastie.caboo.se/10194 So I thought I would run it myself to see the problem. I do not see a memory leak when using the sample code, but if I require "fastthread" before "thread" using fastthread (0.6.4.1)

shouldn''t this work? - session[:array_of_objects].delete_if {|x| x.id == params[:id]}
I am saving an array of active record objects (college courses) in the session as session[:course_list]. This is the cart for a registration controller. If a student chooses to delete the course from the list I get the :id as params[:id]. However if I do session[:course_list].delete_if {|x| x.id ==params[:id]} does not work. session[:course_list].delete_at(idx) works. Ocourse to do this I have

fastthread 0.4
fastthread is a library which replaces the synchronization primitives defined in stdlib?s thread.rb (Mutex, ConditionVariable, Queue, and SizedQueue) with optimized versions which: * are much faster (in the non-contention case, speed comparable to direct use of Thread.critical or Thread.exclusive) * don?t leak memory (the stdlib implementation of Mutex manages to

Rubygems 0.9.0.8 and Fastthread problem
Heya Folks- This is mainly for Zed and Mentalguy. I have been playing with the new release of rubygems 0.9.0.8 and I have a major problem with the requirement that fastthread needs to be required before thread. Just requiring rubygems and then requiring fastthread right after that will throw the error: ez _blog $ ruby require ''rubygems'' require

Ruby, Rails & Linux - Which distro ??
Hi, I''ve been doing most of my initial playing with rails on a windows system - but wish to switch to a dedicated linux box for this. Are there any particular distro''s to avoid / recommend. I prefer debian for my other stuff, but thought i''d ask before going ahead. :) Cheers -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Mongrel, Mutex and FastThread results for win32.
Hello Guys, Been testing fastthread (known on previous releases as optimized_locking) for soon to be released 0.3.18 mswin32 gems (official ones). Attached to this message is the ruby script I used for the test results shown on graphics [1] and [2] The idea of the script is simulate what Mongrel do with threads creating a simple workload for testing Ruby VM stability. [PATCH] Fastthread 0.5.3.1 with merb edge (124)
I checked out the latest merb ''trunk'' and after installing it as a gem... (fresh install) I got the dreaded "fastthread not loaded: fastthread must be required before thread" error when starting up an instance of merb. Even without dRB. So I patched the merb.rb file to include fastthread before anything else if it''s installed. Check it. Merry Christmas!

SPAM on rails-list
This is a high traffic list as it is and it is really annoying to see that SPAM is on the rise here. I wonder how they can spam the list since each user has to be authenticated. Do spammers go through the trouble of subscribing to the list? In any case, this msg is to the list admin...could you please do whatever it takes to filter this stuff out? Thank you very much. -bakki

I need debugging tips?
Hi all, Like most other frameworks, Ruby groups code by Model/View/Controller instead of by task, and therefore I''m having a hard time debugging a problem from the Agile Rails book where looping through @items errors out because one or more items is nil. I managed to empty the cart by placing session[:cart] = nil in find_cart() in the store_controller_rb, and the problem continued
