session log
Hi,
is there a platform independent way to log a complete R session (input +
output + warnings + errors + ???) into a text file? I can use sink(file,
split=T) and savehistory() but it is quite cumbersome to merge the files
and still there is some loss (eg. warnings).
I wondered that I only found this thread from 2003(!) related to this topic:

editor for MacOS
Dear friends - I'm using Tinn-R in Windows and find it OK. My son is
running MacOS and is just starting using R and I know nothing about
MacOS and R but we seem to have difficulties in finding something
similar to Tinn for MaC. What are your suggestions?
Thanks a lot!

R-/Text-editor for Windows?
Tinn-R (http://www.sciviews.org/Tinn-R/) is one of the topmost
suggestions when googling an R-(text-)editor for Windows. However,
to me it appears dissappointing that Tinn-R does not handle utf-8
(mac-roman, or any other) encoded R-scripts or, in general, text
files. Besides Emacs and the R built-in editor, could you
recommend a good editor for Windows, even some commmercial for a

Tinn-R editor question: saving syntax colour options.
Hi,
after reading about it in the forum, I tried the Tinn-R editor (in
WinXP) running R 2.5.0... nice one!
However, I am trying to change the syntax-colouring from the default
to my own preferences... and I can do that, but my options don't
appear to be saved and get lost when I close Tinn-R. I've searched
help menus, and google... and I can't find how to make sure my

best text editor for Linux?
Hi all,
I know this question has been asked in the past, but I am wondering if
anyone running R on Linux has any guidance as to a text editor that works
well with R. At the present time I am running R on Windows and using
TINN-R. For a number of reasons I want to switch to Linux, but can't find
much in the way of a text editor in sync with R. Any experiences,
recommendations would be

Linux editor for R+LaTeX, but not Emacs
Using Tinn-R (in windows) is possible to run latex and R from the same
editor, which was great. Now, I am using Ubuntu-linux, which has been
better than WinXP. Currently, I am using Emacs (and then install ESS)
for running LaTeX and R from a same editor-program (like i was doing
with Tinn-R in windows). Nevertheless, and even though i have been using
Emacs for almost 2 years, it is not as

good editor for R sources ?
Dear all,
(Sorry if the question has already been answered.)
Could someone please suggest a good text editor for
writing R sources ?
(I know emacs exists ... but I find it a bit heavy).
I use crimson (http://www.crimsoneditor.com) which is
small and simple, but the R syntax seems not to be supported.
Thanks for any advice

portable R editor
Hi,
I have been dreaming about a complete R environment on my USB stick for a long time. Now I finally want to realize it but what I am missing is a good, portable editor for R which has tabs and syntax highlighting, can execute code, has bookmarks and a little project file management facility pretty much like Tinn-R has those. I like Tinn-R but it seems like there is only a very old version of

Linux Editor
Hi Everyone,
I recently have started using R again on a Linux box after spending several
years on a Mac. Last I checked, the best way to use R was through EMACS
using something like ESS. I remember that being serviceable but not always
the most convenient.
Is there anything comparable to the mac version of R with its built in
console, editor, etc??
thanks!

Best R text editors?
Quick informal poll: what is everyone's favorite text editor for working
with R? I'd like to hear from people who are using editors that have
some level of direct R interface (e.g. Tinn-R, Komodo+SciViews). Thanks!

opinions please: text editors and reporting/Sweave?
dear all -
I currently use Tinn-R as my text editor to work with code that I submit to R, with some output dumped to text files, some images dumped to pdf. (system: Windows 2K and XP, R 2.4.1 and R 2.5). We are using R for overnight runs to create large output data files for GIS, but then I need simple output reports for analysis results for each separate data set. Thus, I create many reports of

R crashing during batch file formatting
Hi R users:
I have the British Household Panel Survey (BHPS) in .tab format. I want to
feed it through the Amelia package (which will be an ‘interesting’ job in
itself)..
But first I need to convert the various types of missing value (from about
-9 to -1) to a more generic ‘NA’ code.
I’ve written the following function to do this:

Installing R and an editor on a USB drive
Hi,
I have adviced my students to install R and an editor on a USB drive for
working in the computer class. With R everything works fine following these
instructions: http://personal.bgsu.edu/~mrizzo/Rmisc/usbR.htm.
But several editors (e.g., Tinn-R and WinEdt) require administrator rights.
I have found out that Emacs (Vincent Goulet's Emacs for Windows Modified

Latex editor recommendations
This question is not oriented towards R, but is posted here because I
have the impression that there are at least some Latex users among the
contributors. The question is: What editors for Latex are to be
recommended? I have located one:
http://www.latexeditor.org/
What other alternatives are there? I am (for the most part) using
Windows XP.

TINN-R's "R Explores" - Available for other editors?
Hello,
I am using TINN-R for working with R and for that purpose it is a very
handy editor, in particular the R-Explorer that shows the existing
objects and their properties is worth money.
But I want to move to a more flexible editor (in particular for Latex)
and was thinking of WinEdt (or maybe Eclipse, because of Java). I know
they have capabilities to work directly with R, but has any other

Text editors for Sweave (rnw) files
Hi fellow R-users,
Are there any text editors that recognize sweave (.rnw) files? I am running Windows Vista and in the past I used Tinn-R for R files but it (surprisingly) doesn't recognize rnw files and does not do any syntax highlighting for them.
Thanks in advance,
Greg
