S4 method dispatch with inheritance
Hi,
I'm trying to create a new S4 class (myMatrix) which for now just
extends dgCMatrix (from package Matrix). Then I want to use "[" which is
defined in Matrix.
Out of the box with "[" (defined in Matrix) I lose the class information
and the result is an object of class dgCMatrix. If I specify a
"["-method for myMatrix, it is not used because a signature

biplot
Dear list,
I want to perform a biplot, using customized titels for the x and y axis.
Setting xlab="" and ylab="" resulted in an error, e.g.:
> data(USArrests)
> biplot(princomp(USArrests),xlab="",ylab="")
Error in biplot.default(t(t(scores[, choices])/lam), t(t(x$loadings[, :

SMACOF joint configuration plot with bread data? (Michael Kubovy)
Hi Michael,
with res.uc$conf you'll get the single configurations for each rater.
You can use these to produce the plot you want to have.
Best,

Using FPP preprocessor for Fortran Code
Dear R Developers,
For package seriation I use Fortran code. I recently got a request to add
#if defined(__ICC) || defined(__INTEL_COMPILER)
USE IFPORT
#endif
to the code since the Intel Fortran compiler otherwise has problems with
rand(). However, to enable the FPP preprocessor I have to either add a
compiler flag (-cpp for gFortran) which is possibly not portable or
change the

Column name expansion in data.frame()
Dear R developers:
I am trying to add a column to a data.frame. The following does the
trick by expanding the name of the first data frame with the prefix foo:
> data.frame(foo = as.list(data.frame(items = 1:3, bar=1:3)), items =
1:3) foo.items foo.bar items
1 1 1 1

RFC: Matrix package: Matrix products (%*%, crossprod, tcrossprod) involving "nsparseMatrix" aka sparse pattern matrices
Hi Martin,
package arules heavily relies on ngCMatrix and uses multiplication and
addition for logical operations. I think it makes sense that in a mixed
operation with one dgCMatrix and one ngCMatrix the ngCMatrix should be
"promoted" to a dgCMatrix.
The current behavior of %*% and friends is in deed confusing:

Vizualization of points within sets
Hi all,
I have a visualization question regarding sets. My problem is as follows:
I have several sets, each having some members (or 'points'). I would
like to connect the points, while keeping the sets. For example,
if I have 3 sets (Set 1 contains points A, B, C):
Set 1:
------
A, B, C
Set 2:
-----
A, D, E
Set 3:
-----
C, D, G, H
I would like each set to be represented by a circle

[TIP] Making an intelligent form fields
After searching arround I found a quite smart solution to me for binding
form fields to model in an active way. I use aggregations with single
value objects such as
class Percentage
attr_accessor :value
def initialize(value)
@value = (value.is_a? String) ? value.tr('' %'', '''').to_f : value
end
def to_s

Intelligent maximum channels solution?
Hi list!
I have an asterisk box connected to an ADSL connection that has 1 Mbit
upstream. Is there any way to use max channels intelligently?
For example I would like to do some checks on the outgoing calls. When
it's quiet I want each and every call to go out to my IAX provider.
However when more people start placing calls I would like to leave some
room for the real expensive calls and

Background Intelligent Transfer Service
Hey everyone. I know that Background Intelligent Transfer Service isn't
implemented by WINE. However, being that I copied the native dll's
necessary for this service to my WINE installation, is there any way
that I can enable this service? There's one program that I think just
may install save for the fact that it requires BITS :(
Thanks in advance.
