Guys, Is anyone using snowfall? It seems that the last version is broken. sfinit contains test code: data("config", package = "snowfall") configM <- as.matrix(t(config)) config <- as.list(configM) names(config) <- dimnames(configM)[[2]] .sfOption$SERVER <<- as.character(config[["SERVER"]]) .sfOption$PORT <<-

Snow or alternative MPI packages on Windows
Guys, I'm running R on both Windows & Linux. I'm looking at a number of packages for parallel execution. It seems that the most used packages are "snow" and "Rmpi". snow seems more user friendly, but it doesn't run on windows. I see from searching the mailing list that I'm not the first one to try it on Windows. There was a message that kind of shed some

smb.conf Parameters
Hi, I am looking at upgrading our existing Samba installs to 2.2.8 Some of the installations contain the parameter "shared mem size" in the smb.conf file. This parameter does not appear to be available in ver 2.2.8. Is there an alternative parameter or is this now defunct? Regards Jim Burns HSBC Group The HSBC Group's website is at http://www.hsbc.com

In-place modification of a matrix
Hello, Using the technique suggested here ( https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-devel/2007-September/047028.html), we can update a matrix in place (see example 1 below), with huge time and memory savings. Is it possible to tweak example 2 to update in place also? The only difference is that the matrix is held within a new environment. Thanks, Simon # example 1 - fast and doesn't

unwanted conversion of date formats in 2.3.1 to character
good morning I'm using R 2.2.1 on windows (2000/NT/XP) and trying to upgrade to 2.3.1 I am finding the curious problem of date/time data (both if stocked as date and as POSIX) that gets converted into character format whenever touched: it seems that date/time data just does not want to remain that way. For example, a data.frame containing dates or POSIXct as row.names that is returned as

access to files continues after removing user from group
Hello all, I've noticed that removing a user from a group in /etc/group does not immediately prevent the user from accessing files / directories which the group still has access to. For example, say user 'cwseyst2' only has access to access to 'plc' if it is in group 'plc-staff'. # getfacl plc # file: plc # owner: smbadmin # group: smbadmin user::rwx group::rwx
