Another web app using Ferret
I am apart of a team that runs a student site called Studicious (http://stu.dicio.us). We have been using Ferret from the beginning, and recently added acts_as_ferret and sorting to the system. As you can see if you try the search, sorting is not working as expected. I am using this code (w/ find_by_content): :sort => Ferret::Search::SortField.new(:school_sort, :reverse => false)

acts_as_ferret highlight
I am getting nil returned when doing the following: r.highlight(@condition, :field => ''body'') ''r'' is an instance of the a_a_f model. ''body'' is a tokenized saved field. I am running latest ferret and a_a_f trunk. Am I doing something wrong? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

limit results to specific IDs
How would you go about searching only a specific set of IDs in acts_as_ferret? Should I just create a huge "or" query or is there a more stylish way? Thanks, Winton -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Updating to the bleeding edge version of Ferret
Hey guys, It has occurred to me that a lot of people need some of the fixes I make to Ferret ASAP and don''t like having to wait to long for the gem. On the other hand, it is a bit of a pain to download and install from subversion because then you need to uninstall when the next gem comes out. So I thought I may as well put some instructions out as to how you can build your own Ferret gem

Patch for SOCKS4A in OpenSsh
I love SSH's ability to dynamically forward ports using SOCKS (either -D or DynamicForward) (ie "ssh -D 1081 private.mine.net"). But the thing that has caused me some pain, is that only SOCKS4 is supported. The SOCKS4 proxy specification does not permit hostnames, but only IP addresses. This isn't much of a problem if the target host is a public Internet host or otherwise DNS

Terrible, horrible firewall issues in * to * setup
My mission is to get one * box to dial another * box' extensions. I have set this up previously without any issues by making a simple IAX trunk/extension pair on the two boxes and create a dial plan with a prefix like 9|XXX to select an extension on the other box. My problem is that I now have to do this with extremely restrictive firewalls thrown into the mix - firewalls I have no control

Ferret Smoke Test
Hey folks, I''ve added a smoke test script to Ferret. It is named smoke_test.rb and it can be found in the base of the working directory. So what are you supposed to do with it you ask? Well, if you want to help keep Ferret working on your system of choice then set up a cron task to run this script regularly. What the script does is call `svn update` to get the latest working revision.

Ferret 0.3.0 released
Hi folks, This latest release of Ferret has a lot of improvements. There have been substantial improvements to performance. Try it for yourself to see. I won''t be publishing any numbers just yet. I will say though that it''s still about 2-4 times slower than Lucene with the extension installed. There is also some performance improvements in the pure Ruby version if you

Cost of garbage collection seems excessive
When doing repeated regressions on large data sets, I'm finding that the time spent on garbage collection often exceeds the time spent on the regression itself. Consider this test program which I'm running on an Intel Haswell i7-4470 processor under Linux 3.13 using R 3.1.2 compiled with ICPC 14.1: nate at haswell:~$ cat > gc.R library(speedglm) createData <- function(n) {

Which analyzer to use
Lucene''s standard analyzer splits words separater with underscores. Ferret doesn''t do this. For example, if I create an index with only document ''test_case'' and search for ''case'' it doesn''t find anything. Lucene on the other hand finds it. The same story goes for words separated by colons. Which analyzer should I use to emulate

adding a custom filter to the query
Hi all, I''m trying to figure out how to add a filter into a search. I''ve created the filter, basically copying the location filter from http://blog.tourb.us/archives/ferret-and-location-based-searches. But when I try to call Index.search and pass the filter in a hash with the key :filter, I get back that it is expecting type Data, and so I''m at a loss to figure out

Indexing so slow......
I am indexing over 10,000 rows of data, it is very slow when it is indexing the 100,1000,10000 row, and now it is over 1 hour passed on the row 10,000. how to make it faster? here is my code: ================== doc = Document.new doc << Field.new("id", t.id, Field::Store::YES, Field::Index::UNTOKENIZED) doc << Field.new("title", t.title,

searching with chinese chars
Hi all, maybe not a Ferret question, but I assume here might have came across that already. I wrote a simple CGI app that adds docs into a Ferret index. The idea is testing asian languages input and searching. The script that does the input seems to be OK. As David mentioned in a question I made a little while ago, Ferret''s index is agnostic, in the sense that you can store anything in

Help with sorting arrays with objects in it
I have to build an array through both activerecord and also through a ferret index. I was hoping to find a way of sorting the array as i combine the two so def advanced_search(search_text, store, format, sortby) # find items in ferret index items = Item.find_by_contents(search_text) # and now find all the items from a certain store or category items_from_sql = Item.find_by_sql("SELECT *

FULLTEXT search in MySQL on rails
I tried adding a FULLTEXT search index to a table of mine in MySQL, only to discover that the InnoDB table format doesn''t seem to support this feature. Switching to the MyISAM table type seemed to work, but I seem to have some recollection that ActiveRecord transactions aren''t fully atomic on MyISAM tables. Is this true or am I just remembering wrong? If so, does anyone have

Boolean query bug
Hello all, At the end of this script : http://pastie.caboo.se/12711, I made two search. They have to return the same result, but the first return 2 matches and the second only one match. The first is clearly buggy. Do you have an idea ? Thanks. PS: I''ve tested with 0.10.4 -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.
