Reversing order of vector
Dear R helpers
Suppose I have a vector as
vect1 = as.character(c("ABC", "XYZ", "LMN", "DEF"))
> vect1
[1] "ABC" "XYZ" "LMN" "DEF"
I want to reverse the order of this vector as
vect2 = c("DEF", "LMN", "XYZ", "ABC")
Kindly guide

How do I generate multiple (similar) objects within R?
Hi,
I wonder if anyone knows how to generate a list of objects, e.g. ten
vectors with names: vect1, vect2, ... , vect10.
My own idea was to use something like:
for (i in 1:10)
print(paste("vect", i,"<-NULL",sep=""))
but the result is:
"vect1<-NULL"
...
"vect10<-NULL"
and not
vect1<-NULL
...
vect10<-NULL
as I would

data frame
HI, R user,
I generate the vectors with the same length. I want to put each vector into each column of data frame. Why it doesnt work`?
rm<-data.frame()
for(a in 1:6){
rm[,a]<-getmeasure(p1,a,speech)
}
thanks a lot

Dear all,
I have a function MYFUN which depends on 3 positive parameters TETA[1],
TETA[2], and TETA[3]; x belongs to [0,1].
I integrate the function over [0,0.1], [0.1,0.2] and
[0.2,0.3] and want to choose the three parameters so that
these three integrals are as close to, resp., 2300, 4600 and 5800 as
possible. As I have three equations with three unknowns, I expect the
exact fit, i.e., the SS

Solving Equations
People,
I'm researching some Bayesian statistic topics and in the midle of my study
i found a very simple problem and i'm trying to find a simple package to
solve this type of equations:
Lets say that i need to compute beta values for the beta distribution and i
now for example:
E(teta)=a/(a+b) = 0,5
Var(teta)=ab/((a+b)^2(a+b+1))=0.05
So if i want to solve this to non-linear system to

Matching two vectors
Dear R helpers
Suppose I have a vector as
vect_1 = c("AAA", "AA", "A", "BBB", "BB", "B", "CCC")
vect_1_id = c(1:length(vect_1))
Through some process I obtain
vect_2_id = c(2, 3, 7), then I need a new vector say vect_2 which will give me
vect2 = ("AA", "A", "CCC") i.e. I need the subset of

Splitting a set of vectors in a list
I have a set of character vectors of uneven length
that I have stored in a list. I can easily enough get
any column of them using lapply but what I want is to
be able to create a matrix of them. Other than some
kind of brute force looping approach I have drawn a
blank.
Would somebody please suggest something? Thanks
Example.
mylist <- list(aa=c("cat","peach" ),

Method
Hello, i would like to ask you another question. Is exist anymethod to
vectors that tells me the last element?That is to say,I have a vector, I
want to return the position of last element. I hope having explained.
A greeting,
Ignacio.

Dear Contributors
I would like to perform this operation using a loop, instead of repeating
the same operation many times.

datiP2 <- datiP[datiP$city ==2,x];

O/T -2 Log Lambda and Chi Square
Hi R People:
Sorry about the off topic question. Does anyone know the reference
for "-2 Log Lambda is approx dist. Chi square", please?
It may be Bartlett, but I'm not sure....
thanks in advance!

Conservative "ANOVA tables" in lmer
Dear lmer-ers,
My thanks for all of you who are sharing your trials and tribulations
publicly.
I was hoping to elicit some feedback on my thoughts on denominator
degrees of freedom for F ratios in mixed models. These thoughts and
practices result from my reading of previous postings by Doug Bates
and others.
- I start by assuming that the appropriate denominator degrees lies

Loss of numerical precision from conversion to list ?
I?m working on an R-implementation of the simulation-based finite-sample null-distribution of (R)LR-Test in Mixed Models (i.e. testing for Var(RandomEffect)=0) derived by C. M. Crainiceanu and D. Ruppert.
I'm in the beginning stages of this project and while comparing quick and dirty grid-search-methods and more exact optim()/optimize()-based methods to find the maximum of a part of the

EMC/ACBEL Polytech UPS
I have a couple EMC relabled ACBEL/Polytech UPSs which I'm unable to find
anything about. What I do know is that ACBEL/Polytech is CoolerMaster,
however, they don't make UPSs that I know of. These UPSs were used as part
of an EMC Clarion array.
Does anyone know anything about these?
Thanks, Mark.
