Documentation issues [Was: Function hints]
I would like to follow up on another one of the documentation issues raised in the discussion on function hints. Duncan mentioned that the R core were working on preprocessing directives for .Rd files, which could possibly include some sort of include directive. I was wondering if a "includeexamples" directive might also be considered. It often makes sense to use the same example to

[R] Function hints
[This is not about the feasibility of a "hints" function-- which would be incredibly useful, but perhaps very very hard to do-- but about some of the other documentation issues raised in Hadley's post and in Duncan's reply] WRTO documentation & code together: for several years, I've successfully used the 'mvbutils' package to keep every function definition &

Matrix multiplication - code problem
Hi listers, I am having some trouble in a matrix multiplication... I have already checked some posts, but I didn't find my problem... I have the following code... But I am not getting the right multiplication... I checked the dimension and they are fine... id_y <- array(1:10,dim=c(2,1,5)) id_yt<-aperm(id_y,c(2,1,3)) m_id<-array(dim=c(dim(id_y)[1],dim(id_y)[1],dim(id_y)[3])) for (i in

Query about using timestamps returned by SQL as 'factor' for split
I have a simple query as follows: "SELECT m_id,sale_date,YEAR(sale_date),WEEK(sale_date),return_type,DATEDIFF(return_date,sale_date) AS elapsed_time FROM risk_input" I can get, and view, all the data that that query returns. The question is, sale_date is a timestamp, and I need to call split to group this data by m_id and the week in which the sale occurred. Obviously, I would

exercise in frustration: applying a function to subsamples
>From the documentation I have found, it seems that one of the functions from package plyr, or a combination of functions like split and lapply would allow me to have a really short R script to analyze all my data (I have reduced it to a couple hundred thousand records with about half a dozen records. I get the same result from ddply and split/lapply: >

How do I get rid of list elements where the value is NULL before applying rbind?
Here is the function that makes the data.frames in the list: funweek <- function(df) if (length(df$elapsed_time) > 5) { res = fitdist(df$elapsed_time,"exp") year = df$sale_year[1] sample = df$sale_week[1] mid = df$m_id[1] estimate = res$estimate sd = res$sd samplesize = res$n loglik = res$loglik aic = res$aic bic = res$bic chisq =

How to loop a Vobis sound ?
The sound file is played correctly for the first time, then when rewind to the initial position. then copy PCM to buffer, the OpenAL report an error. It seems like the OpenAL doesn't recognize the PCM data. The OpenAL error number : AL_INVALID_VALUE 0xA003 void Buffer::PCMData (ALuint id, ALenum eFormat, ALvoid *data, ALsizei size, ALsizei freq) { // Copy

How do I combine lists of data.frames into a single data frame?
The data.frame is constructed by one of the following functions: funweek <- function(df) if (length(df$elapsed_time) > 5) { rv = fitdist(df$elapsed_time,"exp") rv$year = df$sale_year[1] rv$sample = df$sale_week[1] rv$granularity = "week" rv } funmonth <- function(df) if (length(df$elapsed_time) > 5) { rv =

One problem with RMySQL and a query that returns an empty recordset
My last query related to this referred to a problem with not being able to store data. A suggestion was made to try to convert the data returned by fitdist into a data.frame before using rbind. That failed, but provided the key to solving the problem (which was to create a data.frame using the variables fitdist produces in the object it returns). I now have almost everything working as

I need help making a data.fame comprised of selected columns of an original data frame.
I must have missed something simple, but still, i don't know what. I obtained my basic data as follows: x <- sprintf("SELECT m_id,sale_date,YEAR(sale_date) AS sale_year,WEEK(sale_date) AS sale_week,return_type,0.0001 + DATEDIFF(return_date,sale_date) AS elapsed_time FROM `merchants2`.`risk_input` WHERE DATEDIFF(return_date,sale_date) IS NOT NULL") moreinfo <- dbGetQuery(con,

I am using R 1.2.3 on Linux Mandrake 7.2. Troubles with DBI's dbWriteTable in RMySQL
I am feeling rather dumb right now. I created what I thought was a data.frame as follows: aaa <- lapply(split(moreinfo,list(moreinfo$m_id),drop = TRUE), fun_m_id) m_id_default_res <- do.call(rbind, aaa) print("==========================================") m_id_default_res print("==========================================") ndf <- m_id_default_res[, c('mid',

Proposal: 'global' package refactoring
Looking over the contents of various packages, including my own, it is clear that lots of things end up 'hidden away' in packages where they don't belong. My gregmisc package is a particularly egregious example, containing something from almost every functional category. I propose that from time to time the R community go through the complete set of packages and 'refactor'

cannot kill infinite loop. please help
an error in my rails code caused the framework to send an infinite number of SQL calls to the database. I killed the webrick server, restarted postgres, deleted the /tmp file in my rails application, deleted the bad code, restarted firefox, restarted the webrick server. All to no avail. As soon as I try loading my application, the infinite recursion starts again. I can no longer work. This

troubles with R CMD check and examples under Ubuntu gutsy
Dear listers, I was used to package pgirmess under Windows with everything OK, but, for the first time, I had a trial this afternoon on Ubuntu 7.10 gutsy (I have a double boot computer and work more and more under unix) and R 2.7.0. dovecot-keywords are not preserved any more when moving mails between folders
Hello, after an upgrade of dovecot-2.2.5 to dovecot-2.3.4 the dovecot-keywords, which in my case are set by thunderbird, are not preserved any more when moving a mail between folders. Are there any ideas, what may be the reason. Thanks for any hints on that, Andreas 'doveconf -n' gives: # 2.3.4 (0ecbaf23d): /etc/opt/csw/dovecot/dovecot.conf # Pigeonhole version 0.5.4 (60b0f48d) # OS:
